I can't find a schedule of events for socal. I want to know which courses have their monthy tourneys on what day. SLO put this up somewhere a while ago, but I can't find it. It would be nice to host this at the socal site, but since they can't seem to update their site more than once every few months, it would probably be better placed here.
I hear Tom just got back from his Honeymoon...I'm betting we'll see updation soon.
Here's the latest version of the SoCalendar...please, any/all revisions encouraged! :)
<table border="1"><tr> <td>SoCalendar
</td></tr><tr><td>Monthlie
</td></tr><tr><td>Week
</td></tr><tr><td> #1 </td><td>Sa = Huntington Beach </td><td>Su = OPEN/Wright*
</td></tr><tr><td> #2 </td><td>Sa = La Mirada </td><td>Su = <font color="orange">Ventura</font>
</td></tr><tr><td> #3 </td><td>Sa = Sylmar/<font color="red">S.V. </font>/<font color="blue">Morley</font>* </td><td>Su =Oak Grove
</td></tr><tr><td> #4 </td><td>Sa = <font color="green">El Dorado</font> </td><td>Su = Whittier
</td></tr><tr><td> #5 </td><td>Sa = LM?* </td><td>Su = LM?*
</td></tr><tr><td>* = check
</td></tr><tr><td></tr></td></table>
...technically, it's the DAY# which equals #'s 1, 2, etc. The second Saturday MAY be followed by the third Sunday, for instance. So, it's not WEEKENDs #'s 1, 2, etc. If someone can format the above more-intuitively please go-for-it! :p

Thanks a lot Slo, I knew you had that somewhere! I just didn't feel like searching for hours through old postings.
My pleasure...it seem like the 'search' function sometimes has a stomach ache. My 'strategy' is to try and recall an unusual/specicic word, in this case "socalendar". :)
...looks like La Mirada on Saturday, and Lake Casitas Sunday are slated for this weekend. Does Mission Trails 'do' one?
Twila Reed does a "big money" (sic) round once-a-month as-part-of their weekly, 7:pm event. I don't recall if that's the 2nd or 3rd Wed; I'll ask.
Ventura Monthly (Lake Casitas) is the second Saturday, not Sunday.

Cool !!!!!!! Thanks Slo for the schedule.
Morley Field , San Diego's Monthly is also the third saturday , providing there is no major tournaments on the schedule. It is usually made a year in advance to help with guys planning to travel to out of town tournaments !!!!!
The "*" is meant to reflect that flexible schedule; not be a 'slight' against Morley.
They have an exhaustive [!] website/universe of their own: Morley (http://www.morleyfield.com/course/course.htm).

Yeah, that's the best news I've heard in a while. For all who are not on his mailing list here is an excerpt:
Mountain High just released a statement that said they will once again host disc golf next Spring and Summer. This is what they have been telling me for a year
now. They also said they will be making the lodge into a full service restaurant. They have made significant changes to the lodge area, you will hardly recognize it. And hole 24, Junkyard, will need a new nickname because all the junk is gone, providing terrain for many more
alternative locations and enhancing the huge view up there.
While I hated having 27 baskets upside down in my backyard for a whole year, I am absolutely thrilled that next Spring those baskets will be going back into the sleeves of the course at Sunrise. If you haven't
played it you have a wonderful surprize comming. This Dave Dunipace designed course is awe inspiring. I will have a big tourny/party up there on the weekend Ron, Dave and I put the course back in (and played the
first round up there in four years). Mt High management may ask me to rename the course, who cares, I can't wait to make that drive at hole one, or one of the upshots at hole four, and that big downhill ace at 11 is still
waiting. I AM VERY EXCITED. I'll talk to you all again as Spring approaches.

I can vouch for HB and Eldo being the same, and have heard of no revisions, save the 5th Sat is a fairly safe bet. :)
Please note Weeklies not included.....no EI or B-S monthly scene?

Since there is an Int Novice and Women only month at Morley, is anyone interested on doing an open/advanced monthly at Sun Valley? I don't know who to contact there. If someone has the contact information or knows the people in charge there. I have not played there since the last singles tournment (where I waxed Kent :)) .
I can run the monthly if need be I have a dry erase board and everything.
Let me know if there is even some interest.

So Dave are you just hanging up there or will you put on a mini monthly?
So far Gomez has offered to run an event at SV if someone can get him the contact info, I thought you had the info for them Dave.
Lets figure this out so we can put the word out and have people there.

I was only kidding, I will be at a casino playing a poker tourney and a round of golf for my buddy's bachelor party. You should check out EI though, we've made some significant changes to the course and I know we need some help on Saturday. Work a little, play a lot.

Donny, let me give you a little insight into my next few weekends of disc golf. You know what tourneys I got this weekend, but next weekend we have the Morley monthly on Saturday and then D and I are going to attempt to go play Sylmar on Sunday. The following weekend we will play El Dorado's monthly on Sunday, and probably a road trip somewhere on Saturday. Oh yeah, and we were at La Mirada yesterday. Was even thru 25 holes and bogeyed the last 2 in one of my rounds. Can't stop throwin plastic!

I plan to head up to HB this weekend for their monthly. I think they do a good job, granted I wish lunch were a tad bit shorter; I usually need another stab at hole 10.
I will also take sign-ups for our SVO if anyone is interested.

It might not be a bad idea to move the SV monthly to the 4th weekend because it is open. Is El Dorado going to have theirs on the 23rd this month? I know it's a little close to Christmas, but I would consider going if I knew it were happening.

Good afternoon,
I just wanted to let everyone know about the upcoming Sun Valley Monthly on Saturday April 5th. This month we will be featuring the challenging SVO layout with some slight modifications. If you plan to play the SVO, you don't want to miss this monthly!
We will also be featuring a CTP which you can buy into for $1 and all proceeds will go to the SVO. I am not sure what the prizes will be, but I will come up with something.
The Sun Valley Lunch special will be available for $6.
Date: April 5th
Start: 8am (show up early, as we will start right at 8am)
Rounds: 2 (36 holes)
Price: (all prices include greens fees and $1 to SVO)
Open - $17 (payout in cash)
Advanced - $15 (payout in SV gift card)
Intermediate - $12 (payout in SV gift card)
Novice - $10 (payout in SV gift card)
Woman & Juniors - $10 (payout in SV gift card)
Also, in order to run the SVO layout I am looking for 10 baskets. If you have a basket and want to help out, please let me know!
pre-signups are also available via PM, Phone or Email.
See everyone there,
Richard

I guess no locals actually read this board. Oh well, I gotta go shop for a new car anyway this weekend. Maybe I will meet some locals out at a course this weekend, or for the next monthly event.

You gotta go to the San Diego aces affliate thread for the SVO info, as San Diego doesn't belong to Socal you know  :D

Wow. Last time I checked, San Diego is as SoCal as it gets. It's in Cali, and no city in Cali is further south. Plus the SoCal board is full of posts from San Diegans.
As far as El Dorado is concerned, I think it would be rather obvious that if both courses were closed for 2 days for a tournament that there would not be a monthly at the same time. I didn't ignore the post initally, I just figured the answer was obvious. I'm sure El Dorado will return to doing monthlies soon, if they have one this month it would be Mar. 23 because it takes place every fourth sunday. If you want to play a well-organized tournament on an awesome, well manicured and planned temp layout, then I would recommend playing the Apr. 5 Sun Valley monthly.

I was asking about the monthlies, not the SVO.
1st:
every 4th saturday (not sunday) is at el dorado according to socaldiscgolf.org, hence my original question about a monthly tomorrow.
2nd:
the tournament this weekend is the symlar open, so why would el dorado be closed for a 2-day tournament? Is that obvious? Am I dumb?

Mar 22 2008, 05:35 AM
The SVO layout is in reference to a monthly to be played on Apr. 5. It will be a monthly that is played on the SVO layout. As for El Dorado, I know for a fact that it is the 4th Sunday. They changed it last year and have yet to update it to the website. So if there were a monthly at El Do, it would be this Sunday.

Hey Alex its tough sometimes to to get a response back here anymore. This site gets looked at regularly by So Cal locals.
It seems the San Diego crew likes to chat more than the LA crew. I have posted a question here before and people out on the course would respond before this site gets a response.
I live in Burbank near Pasadena and maybe sometime we can play a round sometime. I am looking to play a casual round on Sunday morning (3-23) early if you are interested in a non-monthly game.
Oh, Welcome to California Alex!
