Was checking out some of these guys in the World Ams Distance video for 2005........
These little freaks are throwing some major distance.
Who are some of these guys and their names.
I am pretty sure that second dude on the video is the same guy on the front page of the PDGA Site here throwing in the woods at a round of World Ams..

Didnt the guy that won only throw 512? And downhill? Pretty far throws, but for a pure distance competition its not exactly spectacular. Chris Boro is on the front of the PDGA site, ive played with him many times. Where is this video you are talking about??
I hate young people. They throw super far, not based on skill, technique or experience, but merely due to lack of things like arthritis, rhumatism, muscle cell attrition, heart impairments, replacement of elastin fibers with collagen, damage to elbow synovia and shoulder bursa, tightening and stuiffening of all ligaments in that hand, wrist, arm, back... Stuff like that. [I'm a potty-mouth!] young people.

And? I didnt say that they werent impressive or they were weak. Throwing 500ft. { I heard downhill } downhill or not is impressive, depending on the slope. However, I would bet cash money that Mike throws farther than most people in the WORLD, let alone Ams. Correct me if Im wrong but Distance is just that. Distance. Who said anything about accuracy?

It is kinda funny how Coda comes on this thread to boast about his-self...what's up Coda haven't got enough attention lately...shoulda done better at worlds!!!
As for these kids at AM worlds throwing decent distance understand you have accomplished one of the aspects of DG (generating power) go after your accuracy now. Just ask Dr. Voakes. Nothing compares to having your tee shots in comfortable putting range.
Yeah, I played with Dr. Rick in January. Throws it average about 350ft.drives but yet how many World Champioships does he
have ??
I think from what I have seen if you can throw 350ft. to 375ft. you can compete with the best if your upshots and Putting are superb.
Ideally 400 ft. would be best. Once I can consistently hit 400 ft.
that will be about it as far as me concentrating on length.
Coda has a great game but Matto has his number. :o
And he is the best under 20yr. old in the World right now. No question !!!!
And representing the Southeast with pride along with Deano !

Kenny told me one day that you only need 375 off the tee to win a world title
Yeah, I saw in one of Climo's Post in the archives from a year or so
ago that he maxes out at 425ft. in the air. I guess he was referring to on a fairly open Hole in Tournament play. I am sure if he wanted to max out in a distance contest he could get close to 500ft or more. And I guess that is with a pretty heavy TeeBird.......
And I would guess he would sacrifice his incredible accuracy if he tried for 500ft. everytime.
I will go back and see if I can find that Post in the archives and Post it again.

I know Mike throws far, but then again so does Robbie Bratten. I've seen both throw and it would definatly be close. I saw Robbie sweep a hyzer all the way out to at LEAST 450'+. Then he went and threw a Z Avenger on a field Saturday night close to 200' out the back of the endzone. Too bad he didn't do it in the comp., but he too has a HUGE arm.

Matt Orum threw perhaps the longest golf shot in competition I have ever seen in my life. During the final 9 of Pro Worlds, the top card was playing the 5th hole, a safari hole from the 17th tee to the 18th basket. After a drive and a roller, he was on the right side of the fairway about 250-275 feet in front of the 18th tee with an OB road lining the left side and an OB creek with trees and heavy foliage lining the right side all the way to the polehole. So from his lie, Orum proceeds to launch his disc all the way down the fairway, pin high and about 20 feet left! Remember, this was not a wide open shot - the fairway is no wider than about 100 feet, with OB on both sides. And considering that hole 18 was listed at 777 feet and Orum was approximately 250-275 feet in front of the 18th tee, this golf shot was likely around 500 feet!
(Of course, the greater excitement was yet to come, as Orum would make the putt for the birdie four and collect the $500 bounty raised by Schweberger!)

Your statement is a joke...how many other players can people say the same thing about? Were you there? Did you try throwing a disc 500'?
I can think of 5 AMS in Tulsa who can throw every bit as far as Mike Robinson, does that mean they would have won the distance comp in AZ? I think not.

Plus I dont seem to remember him CRUSHING everyone in Des Moine last year. I think he won by like a meter or something. I mean he only beat me by 35 ft or so. I've played a lot of golf with Jason Bolstead (AM distance champ) and he deserved the title because he can freaking pump the disc...I heard his longest shot during the competition was out of bounds and near 600ft...but of course Robinson would have beaten that one too, right Chase?

Thanks MC - You ar my favorite 400-ft short knocker!!!!!!!!!!!!
To all of those doubting the distance, please factor in a few things
1) It was raining
2) my longest throw, which was just flexing out, went OB and right at 600 ft
3) downhill not exactly - we threw from about 8-10 above the landing area, which IMO resulted in our discs washing out
4) did you see the trees to the left? - It was very difficult for righties to throw a huge anny - If you watch the winning throw, I missed the trees by inches.
There were some big guns there (eg Robbie Bratten and others). Those of us who won beat everyone in our division. If you weren't there, you didn't A) throw in the rain B) throw on slick as ice grass or 3) beat the division winners.
So, please give it a rest. BTW I would have beat Nate Doss at Pro Worlds if I went:D

I stated a opinion. Mike would have killed those numbers throwing downhill. I play with him almost EVERYDAY, not once a week, not once a month or whatever the hell your talking about Conners. I see him destroy discs. Im not a distance king and I also dont use "message board" distance when I speak about myself, but I see him throw farther on a more consistent basis than anyone ever. When I thorw a driver as well as I can and park a 400ft hole on flat ground and he throws a mid- range that goes past it, im impressed.
I wasnt intentionally trying to "hate" on any of these guys. They are all very talented. First off. Saying Chad would have won is like saying if I went that I would have won. Second off he wasnt there and niether was I so thats null and void. Lastly ratings dont mean CHIT!!! and they never will untill they update them more frequently and use more recent rounds instead of the crap that they do now.

Confidence has nothing to do with it. Mike isnt my doubles partner. Mike plays with the TOP Am in the country, Chad Hein. And... I would out-putt just about any person you bring to any contest, anywhere, so how far he throws it is irrelevent unless were playing Fly 18 golf. You act like distance is what defines a player. I wouldnt trade games with anyone, let alone a player that throws as far as some of the guys mentioned because they have a liability I dont.
If you think Im just sitting at a computer talking out my [I'm a potty-mouth!], look me up. Im no superstar, but Im confident that I can beat anyone.
How about this. Wait till after Am Nationals. If Im wrong about what I say, Ill take the feedback. I did it on other threads, so I can do it here. I just hope that theres more players of significance there than at Am Worlds, where it looked to me like ten guys were the competition. Jeff & Mike, the guy obviously doesnt know what hes talking about. Jack, Matt, Kim and I would destroy your boy Chase and Billy would out throw him. I saw him park hole 10 at Ewing.
Ive seen Mike park hole 10 at Ewing a dozen times. I come up 40-50ft. short. Big Wow!
EOG, I guess we'll see at Am Nationals, huh?
Take the bet, Chase...you seem like a confident guy, c'mon put your $$$$ where your :D is.
I know of about 2 dozen that didnt go that could have mixed it up a little more, and most should be at Am Nationals.
Well your tournament record shows quite a different stroy than you can beat any one. It would appear that in the tournamnets this year there have been at least 57 people you can't beat. :o

[I'll tell you what big fella, if you are so confident in your playing partner (Mike Robinson) I'll put
$100 of my hard earned money that a measly 930 rated Amateur from Okie land can out throw your boy Robinson, even on flat ground, and in rain, with a headwind, slippery ground....WHATEVER!!!! His name is Billy Lund, he does not travel a whole lot, but I can prob get him to a tournament near you, that is unless you don't think Mike can beat Billy in raw distance :D
There are dudes who can throw far, and then there are dudes who can throw REALLY FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR...put your money where your mouth is brotha!!!]
Never met Mike, wouldn't doubt his skills or distance, but I've played with Billy Lund. Man, that guy can throw it FAR. The disc screams when Billy picks it up cause it knows the pain it's going to be in when he releases it. K, it doesn't always go exactly where he wants it to (sorry Billy), but it's a crush. I'd put a buck in on Billy (married with children...I don't have Mike's bank account)

57 people sounds alright to me. I havent played but 2 solid rounds all season. Why not save your pity for the hundreds that placed below me?
Im not worried about what you or others think. Ill play you anytime. Ive beaten alot more talented people than those on here, and have been beaten by my share of "Old Timers". Because Old Times can putt.

its only deleted in your mind........................ :D
Thanks. Id like to send out a big "thanks" to all my dealers. I get higher at home than I wouldve in Flagstaff.
Yeah, 57 players beating me this year, so far. That sounds about right. I thought more. Im not ashamed for that at all. My coach says thats about as well as I could have done, playing so high and on blind courses. He also suggests that I start showing up a day early, so Im not playing BLIND. My coach seems to think that and habitually using the strongest smoke known to man might in fact NOT be the best way to go about a tournament. What does your Coach tell you ParkN 2Putt? Probably something like: "Dont talk smack if you cant even putt, because your a hack."
I havent played but 2 good rounds all year, and in the words of the greatest Am of our generation, Steve Millz, I quote:
" Im sick of playing with all these losers all the time. I just need to go Pro where Im challenged".
I thought Millz was challenged all the time, but apparently, he may be on to something. Seeing how as Im almost always in the hunt, playing with Top Level Ams isnt much different than playing with low end cashing Pros. I will be moving up and I ask you all to laugh away if you feel it necessary, as you will all be laughing from Advanced.
First off, I'm not park-n-twoputt, I am how ever the original Twoputt and the name has nothing to do with disc.
I wasn't calling you a hackn as you did me, just stating that your record doesn't reflect that you can beat anyone. The weed just makes you feel that way. :D
When I talk smack, I back it up or eat the crow when its over. Just ask Conners, my tourny record isn't that great, my rating sucks and I play in an age protected division............but...............if you want to play for cash, you will see a different game from me, cause I'll **** sure take your money. Match play, skins, what ever, when the monies up I get lucky. :o

My 2 cents....
I've played with Chase - he's got game for sure. We played like 4 rounds together last year at worlds.
I've played with Billy Lund and wow. I was in distance finals last year at am worlds (threw 504, but I'll be honest and say I only caught one - the other nine's best was probably 450, either way, I was there). There is rarely a time I play where I'm not the biggest arm in the group - and Billy was outdriving me no question about it.

Sorry Matt, but losing to you is no different than losing to a Pro. Ive seen enough of your play to say that easily. I dont think anyone out there that has seen you play would argue. You couldve played Pro all year and done just fine. Im also sure the same goes for the Top 4 at Am Worlds, all of which have talent. I am also quite certain that Boro didnt play his best golf that week, as I know he can play. He never answered my post, but I know if his putters on he can hang.
Either way, losing to you is not an insult at all. I lost to you in every tournament Ive played with you. No big deal losing to a Pro playing advanced. No, I dont care how old you are, or that you play Advanced, I just respect your Pro level game.

What will be funny is if you dont make the grade. All youve been doing is talking about how you and Brad will have the best chance. I disagree. Brad has to finish, and you have to beat your own brain. That sounds like a real challenge to me.
P.S.- I do think you have alot of game. I wasnt joking about that. You being the greatest Am of our generation would be a little much considering the baggers of past few years, but 2 A-tier wins speaks for itself. How many guys have done that this year? .......2 ? Brad didnt finish 1 tournament this year so him finishing isnt really a relavent comment and I have won 2 SuperTours and make a jump from about 50th to 7th in 1 day at Bowling Green and only finished out of the top 10 3 times this year so I would say that my brain is working just fine thank you.

first of all i never mentioned anything about distance, so i have no response for that digressive question. how are you disrespecting the players (not just smalls as i've said, everyone)?
statements like:

but mostly asinine statements like this:

First off, I wanna say I wasn't hating on Chad (I really like the guy and know he's a great golfer) I was merely pointing out that Jack kicked arse!
And thanks for the props...I played pretty well most of the week, but got my arse handed to me at NAU of all places and had some unfortunate fives spread around. If all my 5s were 4s, I would have made the final! But oh well.

Probably true, but those 5s were brutally funny. How did you get hung up 40 ft from the box on #6? Oh well, it was pretty sweet to have 3 legit ace runs during round 6 on Little America #3.
If I had not had some of my 5s, I would have made the top 10 :oI f-in stroke, and I lose to Boro ,

Itll cost more than I got to go right now, let alone gambling. Sorry Brad, I dont gamble. I did that on here once and it didnt work out. It was a jinx. You also stated you were giving me 10 strokes, so if your so [I'm a potty-mouth!] good , why not let others get a shot at all your money, big man.
Whats funny is I played with your boy Buzz at Pickard. Im sure thats what your going off of. I shot +14 there and fell out of any contention. I played Pickard blind from the longs and it was obviously a stupid thing to do. Oh, Im sure you were injured at various other tournaments as well right? Like the ones you didnt win or finish? I cant argue with the record youve been putting up, nor that Ive been hearing about how good you are for like 2 years, but we'll see how things go. I will be there thats for sure.

My stance was all messed up and I corrected it for the second and 3rd rounds. I would have shot 964 second round if not for playing the course wrong and I was 6 under with 3 easy pars left on the temp course and decided to go big or go home instead of playing safe and ended up shooting only 2 under instead of 6 but hard I played smart (which I admit that I didnt because I was trying to jump into the top 10) I would have shot a 994 rated 48 so I could care less what you have to say. Plus the only reason you beat me is because I had to take a 2 stroke penatly. :o:o HAHAHAHAHA I shot an 861 round and if I hadnt taken a stupid penatly I STILL would have tied you and your on here talking smack. That freakin cracks me up :D

Jake - Thanks for the love.
I threw two orcs and three Starfires.
1st throw - Orc shank about 425-450
2nd throw - Orc shank #2 about 425-450
3rd throw - 170g yellow Starfire about 600 ft but off the reservation. It was 10 feet short of the road bridge behind the field.
4th throw - 171g yellow Starfire about 500-510, enough for 2nd,
5th throw - 170g yellow Starfire at 515 w/o much anny
It would have been nice to throw w/o the trees in the way of a righty anny, but oh well.
Devan Owens, from Tulsa, hit 515 as well with a lefty anny throwing Speed Demons, and I heard he threw some bombs that didn't make it back into play.I have some Speed Demons, but I hadn't had enough time to play with them.

Congrads on your win. But I feel that a distance contest should be just that. PURE DISTANCE.
Screw OB on a distance contest, that is a driving contest. Might as well be throwing Roc's and Wasps and keeping it under 400ft if you are going to put obstacles (trees) and OB where the disc lands and is not measured.
Thats BS, your win should be recorded at ~600ft.

The Worlds has not had a distance champ for several years. Most venues don't have a field and conditions that meet the official Distance event guidelines. Thus, the event has been called the Longest Drive Championship at both Worlds since sometime in the late 90s. The competition is intended to be more like a long golf drive, not pure distance, which makes sense considering the event it's connected with. I think at Am Worlds in Nashville, the throw was uphill thru a wide area bounded by trees. Longest Drive isn't even correct since rollers aren't allowed. So, the true name for the event in the future should be Worlds Longest Airshot.
jbolstead
Aug 19 2005, 03:54 PM
It was more like a long drive contest, but I achieved my objective, which was to win. There are many things that could have made the event more optimal (ie - no rain, no trees to allow righties to work their annys), but we had to work with what we had.
If you want to see some bombs, go to Tulsa next year b/c McCoy told me that they will be using wide open fields, which are very abundant in OK.

Oh yeah - the discs were regular pro Star fires. I have never thrown my CFR.

DISTANCE CHAMPION
It's one of those little things that slips by in the communication between the PDGA and the local organizers. If the winning throw was 900 feet, it wouldn't have counted as a record since the conditions didn't meet the standards. No biggie but I'd love to watch the controversy :D
