Do any of the Champ rocs fly different. Im trying to compare the 2003, 2004, 2005 Champ rocs and was wondering.
Exclude the SB, Glow, etc. Just the regular champ models..
thanks.

Sure do !!!! Depends on the weight , run and plastic type.
I have , right now , in my bag , a 175 gram , Worlds 05 , Super Roc. Really Stable. Cost me $15.00......worth it !!!!
Some are More stable than others. There are some players who will respond more, here on your specific disc.
You have to know , which run , color and plastic type.
Weights are variable. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
I know different weights will fly different.... :)
I have a 2003 Big bird in Orange, 2004 in Red with STAR stamp, and a 2005 Tribal. Tell me the difference in how they fly cuz I might wanna throw one til next year and Im tryin to decide which one.

For me 04 and 05 were the same.I think 03 might be a little more stable
Thanks CE, I have two 2005's so that MAY be the one I throw if any of 'em....

Super Rocs are not Champion Rocs: Champion Rocs are Champion plastic and are exclusive to the USDGC; Super Rocs, in contrast, are (essentially) Pro Pine plastic, and are exclusive to Worlds.
True Felix, and I meant to exclude those too, I just forgot about them. I was only trying to compare CHAMPION Rocs in CHAMPION plastic.
thanks.

of those three, they should all have similar characteristics, They should be more overstable than a regular DX Roc, more akin to a new Worlds Super Roc.
compare the dominess (sp) to the 03 and the 05. my 05 is domier than my 03, and it floats better on comparable throws between the two, i like the 05 better because of that, but in a headwind or downhill shot the 03 comes out. the 03 will go furthur, flatter and wont lift as much than the 05. the 05 champion roc is a better overall disc for me, but everyone has their favorites....i havent thrown the 04.

I have an 03 Big Bird 179 that has been in my bag since 03 and i have HIT many tree's  but it will still come back into a 15-20 mph wind at about 275'-300' my 172 02 will turn to the right no problem if Snapped with no wind or thrown with hyzer into the wind.:DHope this help's :D
:( I can't help with an 01 flight description :( as i never bought a 01 soon enough to have 1 to Throw :(
And now i can't afford one for my wall let alone to throw..............:(
I have an '01 in my bag so I know what it flies like... BUTTA!!
:D

Steve, that was more addressed to Quickdisc than to you since you specifically asked about Champion Rocs, so Super Rocs shouldn't have even been brought into the conversation in the first place.
Felix, I know. :D
I guess the first part of what I said "True Felix" was directed towards you and the second part " I meant to exclude those too, I just forgot about them. I was only trying to compare CHAMPION Rocs in CHAMPION plastic." was in response to Quickdisc....

Hey ........
I like them all. Flat tops and the domey ones.
Maybe because I'm close to sea level.
My O5 flys more stable than my 03's , but not by much.
Just adjust arm speed and snap accordingly.
Either way , a Sweet disc to have in your bag !!!!!
If your afraid to throw it , get it to someone who will throw it.
Golf Plastic is meant to be thrown.
If you need a Wall hanger , get one in 98 grams ( Premium weight plastic ) with the hotstamp of your choice.
Fundraiser discs were meant to be thrown.
Some are just soo sweet , that it is difficult for myself to grind up a $30.00 + disc !!!!!! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
OK, I agree fundraiser discs are meant to be thrown, sorta why I started the thread.....
But, I got 2 '05's and only one of the 2003's and 2004's. So, I wanna throw ONE but not all of em. Think about it, they will run them again next year and as long as I dont lose it (the 2005 I mean), I can buy another one next year.
So, NO, Im not AFRAID to throw anything man, but if they fly the same why not throw what you have more of....
And if Im AFRAID to throw a fundraiser disc why do I have an '01 in my bag... ;)

Wow...............01's are going for , like $200.00 on ebay..
Cool !!!!! Your right , throw what you have most of.
I've got a couple of the KC Pro Rocs...a 10x (180g) and a 11x (177g)....the 10x flies a lil more predictably for me.
I also like the 10X Rocs but they are KC Pro plastic, not the Champion plastic I was looking to compare.

I agree with most of what was said in the above posts, what I don't understand is why would someone want to throw a Champion Roc when it's value supercedes any other disc from that year (2001-2005)...My advice to anyone throwing Champ Rocs is to put them away and spend $30 on a 10x Roc or $10 on a MaceMan/ZoneDriven Flat Top Roc.

I don't buy discs to sell them later. I don't play Disc Golf to make money (well, I'd like to make enough to cover my tourney expenses, but if not - so be it). I play because I love the game and I believe that discs were made to fly!
I throw several champ ROCs and wouldn't put them away just at the prospect of making a buck on them in a few years - I get way too much joy out of throwing them and watching 'em fly!

I've never sold a disc for profit, I "collect" discs to keep or maybe trade....I don't blame you for throwing CFR discs one bit, I have 2 friends who throw nothing but CFR Starfires and I bust their chops from time to time :o
Let em' fly girlie!!!
How long do these Champ Rocs last generally? I have only been playing for two years, but I have seen little to no change in flight patterns on most of my Champ/Z discs. I can't imagine why you wouldn't buy one Champ Roc to throw and then hold on to a few to sell later. That is, if you are lucky enough to buy them when they first come out.
Also, if the discs do last for a good bit of time, is the market for Champ Rocs going to start to tail off? Granted "special" years, such as the 2001 CE Rocs, will only go up, but is it worth hanging onto newer Rocs?
And the last little bit of my two cents on Champ Rocs and rare discs in general. I personally can't understand relying on a disc that is so hard to get. I recently got my First Run Buzzzes out of the bag because of this. I don't want to have to keep relearning discs. Give me a stand by tried and true easy to obtain disc over a Champ Roc any day.
I think I overspent my two cents.

Wanna get rid of your first run buzzz'? If so give me a PM, I will never stop throwing these. :D

:D :p
Champion plastic seems to last a WHILE and the last few years (2003, 2004, 2005) all seem to fly similiar so if Innova keeps the molds the same, you could get a new one each year if you stay on top of when they go on sale.
But I see what you are saying about an easy to replace disc, I just like to throw what other people would hang on the wall.... :D
But then again, the predictability (sp?) of a Champ Roc is what Im looking for. It last a LONG time, you could buy a new one (or two if you do wanna hang one) each year and always keep one in your bag.
I have champ Rocs, the one I throw is still just as stable as the day I got it a year ago and I throw it hard too, and into things, and for skip shots, it just gets abused. I don't see this thing going anywhere from my bag. As for the runs of them I think the ones that are before the 2005(2004 and before) run will be worth something because those all sold out super fast. With the 2005s you can still get them online for their normal price from the people that have been selling them since they came out(zonedriven). BUT the 2005 did have the Special Blends so those might be worth something(they sold out quick) and to have all the champ Rocs in a complete collection could possibly be worth something somewhere down the road. Other than that throw them like you hate them because they are just going to keep working.

If you like the CFR rocs, you might want to try Champion Sharks. I have been throwing one now for a few months and it is more syable than any Pro, DX, or Super Roc I have ever thrown and flies almost identical to the CFR Roc I have.

been throwing my '01 since august '01, still as stable as the day I bought it. Most of the flashing is still present as well. bought 2 for $25 each, the other hasn't even seen daylight. I wish I knew then that the price was gonna skyrocket for those things, woulda bought the whole box.

my SB Roc is my main midrange, and it flies exactly the same as the day I bought it. Im not worried about it either, because they are going to release them again this year. I'll pick another one up and save it, just in case I ever lose the one I'm throwing now.
If you need a Wall hanger , get one in 98 grams ( Premium weight plastic ) with the hotstamp of your choice.
how do i get a premium weight plastic Classic Roc for MTA throwing? anyone have one to trade? is so, pm me...

Have you tried Discovering the World? I recall them having some premi discs a while back.

Try this link Marshall Street Disc Golf (http://www.marshallstreetdiscgolf.com/proddetail.asp?prod=classicroc%5F2005%5Fmsdgc&cat=68).
Not sure if these are heavy enough for you, but the Champ plastic is BEEFY.

OK, I agree fundraiser discs are meant to be thrown, sorta
I won an 05 flagstick and threw it immediatly. You should have seen the look on some people's faces when I hucked that sucka, it was priceless. I say throw them if youwant to. You can always find more and the more valuable the disc is to your game, the more you'll seek it out. But don't be afraid, the candy is durable and should hold up through many, many tree hits.
we joke about how expensive our hits are...I had a $15 hit the other day about 25ft off the pad on a 350ft hole. ouch! the plastic held fine and still flys the same. ;)
OK, I agree fundraiser discs are meant to be thrown, sorta why I started the thread....
That is my ORIGINAL quote.
And I know the Champ plastic in darn near indestructible, I was just trying to compare the molds, etc.

1st run Zwasp = affordable '01 Roc
other Zwasps = affordable '03, '04, and '05 non-glow rocs
The glow roc fly very similar to an '01.
The special blends fly similarly to an '02(or so i have heard).
I think a 1st Run Buzzz could fly about the same as an '02
The glow roc fly very similar to an '01
Hmm, Im not so sure about that. I have an '05 Glow and an '01 in the bag and they fly NOTHING alike. Yeah, they are both overstable, but, the '01 has ALOT more glide than the '05 Glow.
