I drive mostly RHBH with an average distance of about 370' I max out at 400'.

I use a pretty standard X step with one leading step to start out with. Overall my drives look pretty average except for my follow through.

About half of the time I end up doing a complete 360 degree turn after the disc leaves my hand. I don't really think about spinning it just seems to happen as my momentum carries my right arm around my body. I don't feel out of control when it happens it just seems that it is easier to keep turning than trying to stop.

When this happens my drives are a little better than when I just have a 180 turn at the follow through. I always get a little more distance after the spin move, so I'm not really looking to change it - just understand it.

I am curious if anyone else does this or has seen someone else drive like this. Maybe some of you technique oriented folks can tell me if this spin is indicative of a mechanics problem or just a byproduct of my momentum.

Follow through is energy 'dissipation' and your footwork makes room for your method. When I watch the big-guns crush, I'm always amazed at how much shoulder rotation they have in their follow-through direction...and quite often they have their opposite shoulder pointed at the target with their off arm wrapped around their torso.

the 360 follow through will ease stress on your joints. i believe the reason you'll see many top players not using this is that it is slightly more consistent to maintain lower body orientation through the finish (although a late turn after the arm has reached the maximum amount possible before your lower body must turn shouldn't have much effect).

slow motion video will show that with most of the top players, their toes seem to really follow the line/trajectory of the disc.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I'm getting decent distance and accuracy with my current style so I'm probably not going to make any drastic changes.

I'll just have to endure those ballerina jokes for now.

I do the same and I found if I try to stop it, I injure my lower back. It's not something I even tried to do or even think about. It just happens naturally so I let it. I've been told it looks pretty kewl :D;)

So spin on!!! :D:D

yeah, keep it up.
I've always like seeing hippie twirlers at shows - they should be acceptable on the course.
