Sadly recieved an email this afternoon that Father Dave has left this world. He will be truly missed. He was a good friend, a great disc golfer and undoubtedly the most humorous man I ever met.
Rest in peace Dave......

Dave was the most interesting person I had ever met. He touched a lot of lives with his humor. He held some of the most outrageous disc golf events. Told some of the funniest stories. But most of all, he was a **** fine human being!
Our prayers are with his family and especially his wife, Miss Julie.

Rest in Peace, Dave Tayloe... and say hello to Jim when you get there.

I think Vinnie expressed something that was in my heart as well when he said

"I have lost a piece of who I am."

Amen Brother! :(

Dave Tayloe was undoubtedly one of the coolest and most unforgettable personalities I have ever met in disc golf. We played several rounds together at the 92 Am Worlds in Indianapolis, where he demonstrated his famous foot throw to me. He will certainly be missed by many here but heaven will surely be a more colorful place with Dave.

RIP buddy.

Well I am just completely saddened by this news. I got to hang with Father Dave at the Friz. In a gathering of colorful people, Father Dave stood out.

The Friz just got a little less colorful, but heaven just went tie-dye!

Dave: First rate... admirable... enjoyable... outstanding... respectable.... rare.

Sandra and I will miss you.

Dave is up there laughing at that one! So when I look at the clouds, I will look for some tie-dye patterns!

Many of you know that I rarely passed up a chance to raz on Dave a bit. So, I'd like to ask a favor of everyone that reads this. Before you go to bed tonight, go outside and look up at the sky. Then at the top of your lungs scream,
F*$K YOU DAVE
If you listen carefully I'm sure you will hear Dave laughing.

If anyone is offended by this suggestion, don't worry Dave wouldn't be.

Also, FYI, there is another Father Dave thread under Misc. Topics.

I am still in shock, even though you had been sick for a long time, it still hit me hard thinking I will not get to spend time with you on this plain of exsistance.

I want to thank Richard Marr and Greg Marshall for holding the Tayloe Roast Memorial back in January. It really meant a lot to me to have a good excuse to drive all the way to Houston just to see Dave. I was able to have a long heart to heart with him durring that event.

Please take a moment to remember Father Dave.....

The Reaper and The Flowers

There is a Reaper, whose name is Death,
And, with his sickle keen,
He reaps the bearded grain at a breath,
And the flowers that grow between.

Shall I have nought that is fair? saith he,
Have nought but the bearded grain?
Though the breath of this flower is sweet to me,
I will give them all back again.

He gazed at the flower with tearful eyes,
He kissed their drooping leaves;
It was for the Lord of Paradise
He bound them is his sheaves.

My Lord has need of these flowerets [I'm a potty-mouth!],
The Reaper said, and smiled;
Dear tokens of the earth are they,
Where he was once a child.

They shall all bloom in fields of light,
Transplanted by my care,
And saints, upon their garments white,
These sacred blossoms wear.

And the mother gave, in tears and pain,
The flowers she most did love;
She knew she should find them all again
In the fields of light above.

O, not in cruelty, not in wrath,
The Reaper came that day;
T was an angel visited the green earth,
And took the flowers away.

-Longfellow

A Psalm of Life

Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.

Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.

Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
Is our destined end or way;
But to act, that each to-morrow
Finds us farther than to-day.

Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
And our hearts, though stout and brave,
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
Funeral marches to the grave.

In the worlds broad field of battle,
In the bivouac of Life,
Be not like dumb, driven cattle!
Be a hero in the strife!

Trust no Future, howeer pleasant!
Let the dead Past bury its dead!
Act,--act in the living Present!
Heart within, and God oerhead!

Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time;

Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing oer lifes solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again.

Let us, then, be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait.

-Longfellow

I wore a Phather Dave shirt today at Pease Park for the mini tourament. Randon called...Stevo came by...others traded thoughts of Dave and Julie. It was peaceful for the majority. Our thoughts were in the right place...all raised their own sort of toasts. Big smiles, heavy hearts. We'll hug you Saturday Julie...if you let us.

A Memorial Service for David A. Tayloe
will be held at 1702 Creek Drive, Houston Texas
on Saturday 6 August at a time to be posted at FatherDave.com (http://www.fatherdave.com) in the near future.

This will be an outdoor service, so please feel free to dress in comfortable, casual clothes.

Friends of David who wish to sign the electronic guest book may do so by filling out the form on the web site. Please indicate if you plan to attend the memorial service, as this will help us plan for adequate seating.

Dave was always a good friend and was supportive of me personally and in all other ways. I always wanted to be more like him, but knew I could not. I admired him, and sat enraptured like a kid, listening to his stories.

The special love he had for his dad, his love for Julie, his outreached arms to his friends, who are scattered all over the place, were simply unmatched by anyone I have ever met.

He brought so much joy into so many lives, and will remain by far the most "alive" person I've known.

If its true that you live on in the hearts and minds of those you've touched, and in the memories of your deeds, then Dave will live well beyond our years.

Long Live Father Dave

Memorial 5:00 pm
Wake 5:45 pm - ?
Tayloe's house in Houston - see "memorials" page on the web site for address (www.fatherdave.com), also be sure to register if you are going to be there to help them know how many people to expect.

If you have an EZ Up (pop-up shelter) that you can bring, please do so. Houston is infamous for its rain. Camping chairs may not be a bad idea either.

You can bring food if you wish. If you do bring it, make sure it is in a disposable container. All food not consumed (and not taken back home afterwards) will be disposed of. They don't want to have to deal with dishes to wash and storing stuff in the fridge.

I think I was avoiding this page out of fear of what might be and is now true. I remember seeing Dave (lugging around his oxygen tank I believe) at the last Waterloo tourney saying he wished he was able to play, but came out to watch anyway.
Hopefully Steady Ed is showing him how much cooler disc golf is in the beyond....
