Z-Buzzz replaces my Cryztal Challenger in my bag for all my putting needs.

Am I alone?

The people I know who putt with midranges usually use a really beat up DX Roc.

I hardly see anyone actually putt with Crystal Challengers or Champion Aviars, most use them for approach shots because the candy plastic doesn't grab chains as easy. Good luck.

Why did you switch to the Z-Buzzz?

For the most part I see the same thing. However, the one tournament I've played at I somehow ended up on the leader card for the novices. I was the only one who wasn't using a Champion Aviar as my putter. It could have been because it was windy, but I did find it strange.

Rutgers is a short course and I oftentimes play the short tees with one disc. That disc is my Z-Buzzz.
I found that putting "felt better" with the buzzz than with my challengers. Also I found, thrown the same way, the challenger drops faster than the buzzz, resulting in those darn low putts.

So, now I practice at work with the challengers, and at home with my buzzz. I was really happy with my putting at last Sunday's tourney with the buzzz, now I should work on the rest of my game a little more. :D (oh that double circle 6 on that one hole really hurt...and I did it twice).

I don't know how windy your course is, that drop could come from hard tail winds. A lot of pros will putt with a midrange in very windy conditions. But if you liked the challenger, the Pro-D Challenger is not as overstable as the Crystal. Same mold, just different plastic.

I know of a few people that will putt with Spiders all the time...I have debated trying the midrange in the wind, but since it is always windy I am learning how to use my putter in the wind.

i think putting is so personal it's very possible that midrange suits once person's style better than a slow and floaty putter. midranges go a little faster... it's not a big difference in my opinion. i say you're cool for overcoming the "this is a putter, it's what you putt with" mentality and being in touch with what you "feel". i think a bigger part of putting is how the disc feels and comes out of the hand rather than the flight path it takes.

For one disc rounds, a Coyote or Buzzz/Wasp [Roc] work great. The smooth lip on the Coyote and Buzzz make them pretty easy to putt with. Smooth release. Better than a Wasp or Roc (although a classic Roc is pretty smooth too!).
However, if I'm playing for money, I wouldn't leave my Soft Challenger or Wizard out of the bag! The Wizard Med is a great disc for one disc rounds.
If I had to choose one disc for a round, I could easily play well with a Coyote, Buzzz or Wizard.

So I guess the answer to the question is, not me. I will only putt with a midrange if i'm playing a one disc round, or I need to cut some wind with my Wasp.

I agree with most of the above. That being said, I practice putted with the Bulldog this weekend, and it was noticably faster than a normal putter. Might be worth a shot.

I putt with a Super Roc. Comes off the fingers better for me.

The guy that took second in MA3 at the Gale Vaughn memorial putted with a cyclone. He was about 50% from 30 feet with it. Inside 20 feet he was money though. It was his first tourney and he was using a cooler as his disc bag. On an aside, I went to high school with him but hadn't seen him in 4-5 years.

50% from 30 ft., and he was playing MA3?

Something smells about that story.

Oh, and there's a Pro Master here in the DFW area that putts mostly with the Classic Hammer... good luck getting your hands on any of those, nowadays. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

This weekend there was a guy putting with a Zephyr...TURBO PUTTING. I was blown away. And yes, he scored better than me. He even beat me in the Ring of Fire one round :o

yeah, he played in rec. It was his first tourney. Had to explain a LOT of the rules to him, like using a mini(which I gave him). falling putts inside 33ish feet. Having to mark your discs. 2m Rule. Lost disc rules. Practice throws(as in, getting angry and throwing a second shot at the basket). By the end of 2 rounds, he was playing by the rules and is planning on going up north for another tourney and plans on playing MA2. He finished 3 over par for the 2 courses.

I keep telling them at the factory when I go in to pick up an order that they need to make a soft X Breeze. That would be such an awesome putter. Soft X Buzzz would be pretty cool too.

I putt with a Buzzz when it is windy. The lower profile catches less wind.

Jul 28 2005, 04:50 PM
Bruce, have you felt the D-Buzzz yet....the one I have is way soft....would probably be a great putter.

Jul 28 2005, 05:47 PM
i putt with a classic roc, but i guess thats not a true midrange. it definatly works better for me than my Z APX did.

Aug 03 2005, 07:07 PM
I think there are definatley certain shots where midrange will work well as a putter, but in general especially for longer putts, they don't fly straight enough unless you throw them hard and if you miss it could turn par into +1.

Aug 03 2005, 07:33 PM
I tried putting with a Roc in the wind the other day. Not much to report since I am muy horrible at putting. Funny thing was, I still missed the same putts with a Roc as I missed with my JK Aviar. Weird eh?

Was using an Areo for putts. I could double-helix within 20'! :o:(

....now that's a true midrange; better than a Roc 90+% of-the-time, and I trust a Rhyno inside, etc.
