I imagine this happens more in the Advanced division then any other, but this has happend to me in two of the last three tourneys I was in.

No matter what the distance of the hole, anything up to 425ft, I would be leaving myself with 40-50ft birdie putts. They range from anything behind, in front or to the side. This makes for a lot of drop in threes because I am at least hitting metal on these holes. But the worst part is that it does not give me any cushion when I get to holes that most people take 4's on.

Is this just a common effect of being an advanced player? You get really close to all these birdies but you cannot capitalize, or am I just one of the worst advanced players ever? In a doubles tournament this weekend my partner and I were having trouble with this the entire time. I don't think I am a terrible player, most my recent rounds this spring/summer have been rated between 925 and 950, so I feel I am an average advanced player, but when weekends like this happen I feel like an Intermediate player.

How many other advanced players have this happen to them?

How have the pros out there over come these 40-50ft birdie shots. Because I would really like to move up after this season.

As an advanced player I expect to make putts inside 30ft. But outside that.....it is basically fortunate if they go in.

This statement alone seems to answer your question - you know exactly what aspect of your game is in need of the most work between now and when you want to move up. From previous posts of yours distance is not your problem - however you will not always drive within 30' of the basket.

I understand completely.

Yesterday I was playing. 3 holes in a row I had a chance to get a 2 (par 3s) and missed my putts. (within 20 feet)

Now I've gotten a better drive, my putting has fallen off :)
Practice practice.

It is amazing when I look back at some of the finishes I have had, and can count the number of barely missed putts, ones hitting metal, that if I would have made, I would have won by a few strokes.

That is frustrating.

Tell me about it man. I missed 3 10-15 foot putts on sunday (not to mention I drove like crap) and that cost me the win

Not to mention the putting display I put on at the Brent Hambrick. Missed 20 putts on the weekend from 15-20 ft

They dont overcome the 40-50 footers. They dont make 100% or even 50% of 40-50 footers. Heck they prolly dont even make 30% of them either. I had a couple Super Pros tell me they are happy when ANYTHING outside of 30ft goes in. I also thought that all the pros made everything from 50 and in untill I played a doubles round with Brad Hammock and Ken Climo. Those guys dont make 40-50 footers (I mean they do but its not even close to automatic) I can tell you however that they dont make stupid mistakes and the DO make about 90 percent of there putts from 20-30 and about 100% of their putts from 20 and in.

During the final 9 at Brent Hambrick I watched 3 1000+ rated pros miss putts from inside 30 ft and I dont think I saw ANYONE make a putt from more then 35ft. The difference between us and them isnt really how many birdies we get. Its the fact they they hardly EVER get bogies and they hardly ever throw a shot and say. Man that was stupid!!!

They are better players not because they make 40-50 foot putts but because they have great course managment and make nearly everything from 30 and in :D

Ah the obvious advice which I was hoping not to hear. (That really was not meant as sarcasm). I was hoping to learn that there is really this huge difference then really good Advanced players and pros. Sounds like there is not, they just don't do stupid things like when trying to hyzer over water for 350-400ft to land back on the left side, they do not ROLL THEIR WRIST and send their Orc on a high speed turnover route into the middle of the lake.

My approach game is solid.
I am confident and consistent, at least to the point of impressing people on my putts inside 30ft.
I can get myself out of most trouble.
I can out drive Mississippi's top Discraft Sponsored Pro (according to him).

I guess I just need to iron out these amateur mistakes. :p That at least gives me some confidence for moving up next year. Play smarter golf! Thanks.

Mental Toughness (focus, focus, focus), Consistency, Shot Creativity (when needed).

That's what I've seen from the Pros to distinguish them from the Advanced.

Tracker, too understable by description for me to try. Avenger.....NOT AVAILABLE IN Z PLASTIC YET.

I am waiting for the Z-Avenger, then I will switch. At least Domey Z-Crushes are stable enough for now. I ran out of Orcs.

You may be thinking of the Tracer. The Tracker is a new Discraft disc and is not understable by any means. I throw it where I would throw a BUZZZ but need to get 30 more feet :D So I really dont think your thinking of the right disc.

What do you mean not available in Z Plastic. I have 2 Z Avengers and 1 is in my bag right now :D

I will just use a Z-XL for that shot.

You have a PM though.

What is a Tracker Disc ?

Parkntwoputt
Jul 29 2005, 09:26 AM
It is a new distance driver from Discraft which has the speed of a Talon with a little bit more stability of an XL, about the same as a flat top Z-Buzzz. At least that is what was described to me by our course pro who is friends with Jim Kenner from WAY back in the day when they were throwing actually Frisbees. The Tracker has an XL top with a Talon bottom. Kenner does that with a lot of his discs.

The Tracker does not have a Talon bottom.

It is a tweaked Predator mold :D

And it is a SWEET disc :D

Parkntwoputt
Jul 29 2005, 10:32 AM
Well that is what I have been told by Kenners friend/my coach.

Predator-Talon. What ever, they are both really fast and overstable. The Avenger is just a Predator with a flatter top making it less stable.

So Jim made two other discs modeled after the Pred? Thats some enginutity.

Actually.....the Avenger is a tweaked Pred....they flattened the bottom.

The Tracker is a tweaked Talon....flattened the bottom as well.

I must be losing it All I know is it flies straight like my 1st Run BUZZZ but it goes farther :D

I have officially added the Tracker and Avenger to my bag :D

I would think your coach would have givin you the same advice that Pimp did. Maybe he should be your coach, as he has excuses and "If I hads" down pat. Its easy to think about the blown 20 footers AFTER the round, its making them during the round that determines your standing.

I dont hate on you for excuses. Thats your problem. You got game, I dont think I ever said different.

That being said I think maybe a trip to Stuart Smalleys show is what you need. A big mirror to confirm to yourself that your "Good Enough", "Smart enough", and "Dog-gone it....People like me".

Then again, if you cant use the board to brag about your distance, bragging on chainstars is what you got. Nice season thus far Pimp.
