Dave, a mini is a one round tournament. Usually held weekly. Most clubs run a mini at there home course.

From where you live there are a few minis just a short drive.

BB Owen at Plano RD and Kingley has a mini's on Sat and Sunday, both are held around 2pm. (I have not played there in a long time)

Cedar Hill run's Saturday mini's, check out the Cedarhill thread for the time. (I think it is either 2 or 3pm)

Arlington's ADGA runs a mini on Sundays at 10am

ZBoaz's MaceMan runs a mini on Sunday at 2/3????

The lewisville guys run a mini on Saturday at 2pm still.

Grapevine guys run a min on Wednesday's at 6pm???

There is Thursday doubles at Jimmy Porter at 7pm year round (if it rains on Wednesday or Thursday they play at the Lake)

I hear that there are some guys playing doubles at Jimmy Porter on Wednesday night.

That is what I know off the top of my head. I don't get to play any of these so I don't remember the exact times. But I am sure all these are currently being held (just don't know the times off hand)

Give it a try. Minis can be great for new players. They are informal, with a variety of formats, inexpensive (perhaps $5), and you'll get to meet other local players, and perhaps even learn from them.

A mini is usually is one round informal tourney, and it's usually about $5 to play.

In SoCal, we don't have too many minis, but most courses have a monthly like slo is referring: around here it is typically 2 rounds with entry of around $10 for ams and $15 or $20 for pros.

Yes, 36 holes; we have 18-hole tourneys, too...but mostly weekly; I call them Weeklies. Sorry for the confusion.

Liberty, Twila Reed have Weeklies for sure both [2x9]. HB has a "League" which is Weds. afternons. Lama probably as one as well. Eldo used to have Th afternoon competitions, but it suffered atrophy>>>nonexistence.

The weekly doubles we run here are random draw, so it makes it real good for beginners. They take the BagTag numbers and those who have no number and devide them up into 2 tiers, the upper tier draws spades/clubs and the lower teir draws hearts/diamonds, match your numbers and star playing. The beginners get paired with some decent players and learn new throws and how to polish the ones they already use. You should definitly check them out.

Sure you are! Where else can you turn $5-$8 into a stack of plastic? Play in Novice (Rec). Everyone in that division is there to learn anyway. Arlington has a lot of golfers in a lot of different divisions.
