I've started practicing in an open field recently and am trying to improve my game. Is there anything like a hula hoop stand or something I can set out in the field and practice threading the needle with?

If not I'll invent my own. Seems like a fun thing to shoot for while practicing. Should be sweet to drive through a hula hoop form 280 ft.

Not sure about the hula hoop at 280', but you might try starting 30' to 50' directly behind a football goal post and pick out a target at about 75% of you max distance away.

Then practice throwing to the target through the goal post below the crossbar, through the goal post above the crossbar, to the right of the goal posts above and below the bar, and round the left side of the goal posts above and below the bar.

Is it legal to go into a high school football field? If so I'm there.

That is the best idea I have heard to make field practice more interesting, productive and fun. You may have actually got me to the practice field with this post. Thanks!

I am betting you could rig something out of PVC pipe to hold a hula hoop in a right quick jiffy.

Soccer fields are probably the best place to practice. Throwing through the goal from different angles and distances are good practice excersises. Also, trying to get your discs to land in the center circle (mid field) is great b/c that circle is 60 feet in diameter......so if you are in the circle, then you have a 1' - 30' putt so to speak.

I don't know about fenced school fields. There are many practice fields in the parks around town that are usually available in the spring and summer. It gets hard to find time on one during the football season though.

There's some pvc looking targets on ebay right now, I think they have a net. Reminds me of a hockey net with a stand.

I like to go to softball fields. Some are marked in distance from home plate. Since I can't throw more than the field (290 feet ) it's perfect for a beginner like myself.
I end my steps at home plate & let 'em fly.
I'll know I'm gettting better when I throw a home run ( :D)

Another thing I thought of, was a big square thing with a net in the middle (similar to those things in baseball where you throw a ball into it & it bounces back) but with a looser net to stop the discs. Of course this would be for driving form/release practice as you couldn't see how the disc is flying but would be good practice without shagging discs all day. I guess if you throw it "right" you will hear it (?)

(now I think about it. its 290 in right/left fields, most of my drives end in the middle & I've been within 20 feet of the fence, so who knows.... I'm still shooting for a homer though)
edit #2. KCloftys post on page 1 is also an excellent idea.
