I am wondering why my rating went down after the recent rating in change this month (couple days ago). I was rated at 935 back in May 05 and the only tournament I played in (Pecan Park Open) I averaged a 938 for the tournament. If anything, I would have expected my rating to go up not down. Does anyone have any answer to this. Current rating shows 928. Anybody have an answer to this?

They used standard deviation this time so some of your rounds that were previously not included may have become included now that they are using standard deviation instead of dropping the low 15 percent. I had some round come in to play that were previously dropped. The standard deviation is just going to add to the time lag of amateur ratings. This may be why your rating dropped because this is the very reason my rating did not jump above 950. Had they used my last 30 rounds and dropped the low 10 percent then I would be rated 959 instead of 946. Funny how they want to prevent sandbagging but they tweak the rating so that it can now occur for a longer period of time

According to my rating, it would not be a BAG Down!? Vargas may give me sh#t though since he decided to bump up.
who would you be worried about then Chris??
You should just play YOUR game and not worry about any one else...

Yeah I wondered the same thing then I noticed they used two of the rounds they previously hadnt. Got a little ticked because I like letting them track ratings so I could see my improvement but with them changing the calculations each update I have no baseline for seeing overall improvement so I guess I will have to do it myself now.
Kinda sad I gave the formulas to some of the geeks around the office and asked them statisically what they thought of the ranking method and almost all of them reported back the same thing. If and this is the big if mind you I were continue improving. I could play as a MA2 for alot more rounds (read bagging) while being a MA1 level player before my rating would finally catch up. I have to laugh at that when so many people want to stop the bagging. They also added that it wouldnt take much effort to keep it that way because of the huge margin they are using 2.5 x SD. In short tank 1 round every third tournament and you could remain in whatever division you started in. Any system that allows that to easily happen sucks. I would rather be overrated then underrated :) They also mentioned I will have to work much harder now to raise my rating with a system as such in place.
Oh well, am new to the sport (just over a year) and got alot to learn and a long way to go, Just hate having to track my own rounds now and do my own math to see the improvments.
Peace, love and aces :)

Wow! Tell us how you really feel! You could have used a more politically correct phrase like, The ratings are ga[/b]y! But you can't type ga[/b]y without being cens[/b]ored, so you did it your way. Go ahead....try yourself...it's impossible to type ga[/b]y and censore[/b]d! :D
You did it by using ubb code, which is*gy.

Sucks if your game is constantly improving, great if your game is steady and you only have a few bad rounds.

Chuck / Ratings Commitee,
The 2004 VPO's (Veteran's Park Open - 1st week in Nov) ratings were not entered. Why is that?
Was it just the ratings that were overlooked, or was the cash totals for those who cashed overlooked as well?

So idk if this is the right thread but i had an 857 round kept and my rating is 936, not worth dropping?

i could easily be a keeper... it all depends on your standard deviation value for your rated rounds. its REAL difficult to have rounds dropped now with the new calculations.
