In memory of Kurt Cleaver
His dream
Kurt was a young man from Wilmington, Ohio. He undoubtedly had many dreams, one of which was to install a disc golf course in his hometown. It would be his way of giving something back to his community. He wanted others to be able to play the game that he so enjoyed. He found Cowan Lake State Park to be the perfect spot for disc golf. Before he was ready to submit a proposal to the park, he died in an automotive accident. The park has since been contacted and they have approved the installation of a course. Now, we are working to make Kurt's dream come true. We invite everyone to help us reach our goal of building this new recreational facility by the Fall of 2006. Please take part in our memorial brick fundraising project.

Words from his loved ones...

I knew Kurt a little. He contacted our club (Cincinnati) about advice on getting his course approved. The person who handles our club e-mail forwarded it to me because I was working on a course proposal for a small town about 30 min from Wilmington. I played a few rounds with him & he definitely had big ideas for the project.

I gave him some materials to help get him started (sample course proposal, PDGA promo video, etc.), and he asked if he could come to a parks meeting with me to see what kind of questions were asked & how the whole process worked. I believe his presence at the meeting was a big reason why our course got approved. The parks committee members were amazed that someone would drive more than a half an hour to voice support of disc golf.

It took nearly a month for our park department to approve the course. I e-mailed Kurt the good news but never heard back from him. I didn't hear about his accident for another month or so. I'm happy to see that his dream will come true. Please help make it happen.

I am not his family I had just found out about this project and donated to it and thought if more disc golfers knew about it the dream could be reached sooner. I am more than sure the course will be named for him.

Brian Johnson www.discpimp.com (http://www.discpimp.com) used to run an event called the turkey toss at Cowan Lake with a temp course he used to set up. You guys might want to get in touch with him for some help on the course. He used to live a few miles away and always talked about getting a permanent course there.
