I was reading the article about pitch putting, and I'm not sure I understand what he means by index finger under the rim. Does that mean that the index is extended (pointed forward) on the grip?
The video on that site was great.

I think(and how I hold it) it is talking about squeezing the flight plate with your ring, middle, and pinky fingers. The index finger is then, under the disc(as opposed to being on the outside of the rim), but not on the flight plate or hooking the rim. It's just sort of under there. Sort of provides support for the disc.

if you are wondering about the grip i talk about in my putting article... this is a picture of the grip i use to putt with.
http://www.discgolfreview.com/resources/images/fangrip01.jpg
on some thread buried somewhere i covered what effect each finger has on the putt... e.g. index finger = amount of spin, middle finger = can manipulate nose angle, ring finger = finger that hooks on during griplocks, pinkey finger = amount of spin.
That's exactly what I wanted to know. Thnx Blake. That is my natural grip. I am often "corrected" to place my index finger on the rim pointing at the target.

I've seen a lot of people that use that grip (the control grip?) but I've always had problems with it due to the index finger not providing a predictable, constant, amount of spring on release. So I always had a varying amount of left from the line I was trying to put the disc on.
I use my pointer finger on the outside lip with a fan grip and point at the basket on the release.

i have very small hands and i find it troublesome to get a very clean release when i put my index finger on the outside. i generally aim with my feet and my upper body (since they don't move much) and i find this method to be a little more consistent.

Putting Grip :
Just that.
Four fingers ( Provided you have four fingers )
Under the rim.
Thumb ( Provided you have a Thumb ) on top.
This is not funny. I have played with guys , who do not have all four fingers or is missing a thumb.
That is the basic grip.
Finger on the rim , helps line up short range accuracy.
Can't achieve maximum power though.
ALL four fingers , under the rim , provide more power.
Lose a little accuracy.
Half - Rider : I like this because you can ride the rim of the disc , partially , with a power grip !!!!!! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
I find that having all four fingers under the disc gives you a better feel for the orientation of the disc. It's much easier for me to put the correct pitch and (hyzer / anhyzer) angle on a finese shot with all of my fingers feeling how the disc is set in my hand.
I use only two grips for all of my BH shots. A four finger power grip for drives and the above "control grip" for upshots and putts.

For short touch shots , I sometimes have a lose power grip.
All fingers riding the rim.
