18 years.
I ave around 11-13 discs.(carrying, not neccessarily using) If I am playing with (carrying) less than 9 discs, that's a sign I'm playing well. My best rounds have been with < 5 discs.
3 years, 5 discs (+/- 2 specialty discs)
3-4 years, and I carry nearly 20 discs, don't use half of them during a particular round, the extras are mostly backups, and discs I like to mess around with (CE Viper, etc...)

"Disc Golf" @ baskets = 13 years / carry 10-14 discs
1.37 years playing, carry about 8 discs for a casual round - recently got a large bag and have been carrying 20 discs but it seems kind of excessive to me.

Been playing , almost 40 years.
12-14 discs max.
Check out each course I'm playing once.
Then , thin the bag for what I need.
I don't need to carry , multiple like discs. Too much confusion on shot selection.

I carry about 14-16 discs but that is mainly because I love to throw extra drives. I like having 2 or 3 of a certain disc to get some extra reps.
If it is a "1 drive per hole" round, then 10 discs is all I need.
5 months and I'm carrying about 8-9 disc's, but I have back ups of the same disc so really its more like 5 different disc's.
3 years, 14-16 discs.
1 Monster
4 Orcs (3 Champ., 1 Pro)
1 beat CE Valk
1 Sidewinder
2 QMS
1 Champ Cobra
1 Pro Classic Roc
2 Stingrays (1 Champ, 1 beat DX)
2 JK Aviar-x putters
(at times: a Hydra instead of a Pro Classic Roc)
used to carry 20 and slowly am dumping extra baggage.

Been playing around 3 years.
Keep 20-22 in the bag, but only10-12 get thrown regularly.
I've been playing 1 1/4 years and carry 20 discs, but 6 of them are backups (I tend to lose discs) so I only really have 14 to choose from and use 6-10 per round depending on the couse and wind conditions.

During the Final 9 at Brent Hambrick Dave Feldburg had 31 discs in his bag. He had the middle compartment of his Revolution bag filled with discs and he also had the outer pockets crammed full of plastic as well. I think him and Schweby have the most discs of anyone I have ever seen :D

In my bag about 20... relatively new (it was about a year ago that I bought my first plastic) and am still learning what some of them do. Can't resist walking into a store and getting some new stuff to throw.

27 years on disc golf courses. 7 or 8 discs.
"Coincidently" the same number of years as Bruce. I threw my first frisbee on a disc golf course about 30 seconds after Bruce did. I carry about 10 discs in my bag.
5 years
15-20 discs
depending on the course; if I think I won't be throwing rollers, or if the course is fairly short I usally shed some discs.
5 years playing....and 10 discs...4 drivers...4 midrange...and 2 putters.....cant beat it for consistancy......

like it was said before, i was playing frisbee golf with lids for about 6 years before finding out about the baskets and golf discs.
i've been throwing at the chains for about 2 years and carry around 15 disc, depending on the course and if i know someone is going to need to borrow a putter or something.
about one year....well, played some last year and then stopped and then picked back up this year again and really seemed to get involved in it. I carry 7. 3 drivers, 2 muti-purpose and 2 putters. One of the putters I don't use and one of the mid-range I don't use. Just carry them because they are mine...and I let others borrow them when they need a disc or get frustrated with what they are throwing. Another 2 I rarely use because the others almost always do well for me. Plus I haven't really experimented with them to see what they can do.
I've been playing for a little bit over 2 years (started may2003) and I went crazy when i started and carried a full bag(21 plus 3 in my putter pocket)...
Now I carry as little as 3 Discs and no more than 10.
FOr casual i'll carry 2 putters, a midrange, and a Driver and for touranments i'll double up on the essential discs to have extras plus i'll throw in a Monster for trick shots.
Less discs... Better Scores.

I have been playing 15 or 25 years. (Really(!), I started early took 10 years off and started again big time in '96)
Right now I am playing with 8 discs in my bag.
1 166 pro starfire
3 166 sidewinders (one worn, the other two fresh)
2 166 champ stingrays (both play the same need two for possible backup)
2 174 champ aviars (sometimes I carry three, always carry at least two putters.)

Less discs... Better Scores.
Then why not just carry one disc? Wouldn't that give you the best scores based on that philosophy?
I don't think just saying that fewer discs will lead to better scores is correct. There will be some sort of balence between having enough discs to do everything but not having too many. If you don't have enough, you won't have a good option for all distances and stabilities. If you have too many you run the risk of choosing a disc that won't work the best for your given shot or one that you aren't as familiar with as you may have thought.
By looking at what most pros have listed as being in their bags, that number of molds seems to be somewhere between 5 and 10 with the actual number of discs carried, counting different levels of wear and backups, being somewhere from 12-20 discs.

Coming up 30 years 10-12 discs.
less is better, but under 8 and you would be missing something on some courses.
I've only been playing about 6 months & I guess I'm a sort of a disc *****.
I have 12 discs already.
Just came home from buying 2 new ones. Those plus the ones I find with no names (now at 4) the bag is getting heavy.
I think tommorow I'm going to experiment & just take 3 with me (d,m,p) and learn the discs I know I like.
Like to say "Thanks" to all that don't I.D their discs. You've really helped with my being able to experiment with other discs.
I felt bad for the person who left a disc the other day, it was brand new and an expensive disc.
Put an email address on it, phone #, anything.

valk, firebird, sidewinder, starfire, roc, and aviar.
Usually carry 2 rocs and 2 aviars.
been playing 11 years now.
Less is better. I played for quite some time with 3 discs, stepped up to 7 for about 5 years and am now up to 9 when I am at max capacity. Any more than that just seems silly.

7 discs, some duplicates. mainly use 4. played 1st in 91, seriously since 00.
I am in the same boat as oldtyme. I have been playing for about 6 months. Ice Bowl was my 3 round of DG with one of the greatest bunch of guys ever (CDGC). And I have been addicted ever since. I play with 12-14 discs and throw 6-8 of them for the majority of shots.

frisbee golf - 5 years - one 175 disccraft
disc golf - 1 year - 5-6 discs
- 1 putter (magnet)
- 1 midrange (wasp)
- 1 understable driver (z express)
- 1 stable (straight) driver (swirl cyclone)
- 1 overstable driver (champ orc)
- 1 overstable wind driver (1st run tsunami)
I think less molds are better...but having a mold do more of the work than your arm is better consistancey. I throw mostly sidearm (flick) as opposed to backhand (missionary).
have fun,
...nick
