My 172 X-Wasp used to be stable, but flies pretty much straight for me now. I have a 180 DX Roc in the backup bag that flies about the same. I am thinking of re-doing my whole mid lineup (3 discs), maybe going with Rocs since so many of you swear by it. I want to have the same disc in various stages of wear, or a couple different molds that are very similar. I need one more stable than my Wasp for wind/spike hyzer/forehand
Does a gator have the same general feel as a Roc?
I have a backup X-wasp and like the X plastic, should I stick with discraft and get a max wt Z-Wasp, Drone, or MRX instead? Between MRX and drone, which is most like the Wasp in terms of feel.

I've never thrown the MRX but I sure do love how the Drone handles itself. It is a great stable disc and really great into a headwind.

the gator is quite a bit different than a roc imo.
i've always felt the gator is to a roc what the rhyno is to a big bead aviar.
i am a multiple roc carrier and i've never really needed a mid that was more overstable. the only time i find the roc not able to hold the line i want are on shorter shots where i need like an abrupt 90 degree turn to the left.
for shots that are in say the 150' range and a very hard left fade, i've generally found more consistency throwing a super overstable driver (whippet, blaze, champ firebird, z xtra, etc.) as imo, it's easier to get up and down fast and manipulate their D using angles, wrist rolls, height, etc.
Sorry guys, I'd like to stay away from Gateway for ease of replacement.
Maybe it's a technique issue, but when I use a Wasp or Roc off the tee (thrown flat and hard) they like to annie for a bit, so with some wind things get ugly. When thrown with some hyzer, they fade all the way. This never used to be a problem, but I find myself using mids a lot more these days.
You may have something there Blake. Overstable mids seem to have a more gradual fade than overstable drivers
Before I even read your thread I was going to recommend a gator :D Its more stable than a Roc is. But to me it has nice consistency like a roc. Nice left fade when it slows down everytime.

Keep your beat up X wasp and get a heavy Z Wasp. That should work out good for ya.

Seriously the blaze is a faster litlle more overstable roc and I will stick with a blaze as long as I can. :o:o

Do you live in the Twin Cities? I saw you reference Plymouth Creek in another post.
I haven't seen them carry a Demon yet, but Air Traffic has at least started carrying Gateway. The one Demon I have I actually got at the Games By James in Southdale. I know the hours are inconvienient for us working folk, but GGGT carries Gateway, too. From what I understand, Timmy Gill also has some Gateway discs he's looking to sell.
I think that if we show the stores we want more discs by more manufacturers we'll get them to carry a wider variety of discs. Competition can be a very good thing for us consumers.

It might be a good thing for him to stay away from Gateway unless there is someone that sells Gateway up there. One reason is ease of replacement. Some people like to pick up their plastic and feel it before they buy it. The other reason is because he may or may not like the feel of a sabre or a blaze or a demon.
Keep your xwasp as your turnover midrange. Keep throwing it flat. Pick up a Zwasp and just keep throwing flat(unless a hole's fairway makes you do otherwise).
A lot of people need to follow the KISS method of disc golf:
Keep
It
Simple
Stupid
Find people in your area that has discs that you can throw a few times to see if you like the flight. When a guy in the area wants to try a disc and I have one that is used, I will let him/her throw it.

I live in Hutchinson, about an hour west. There's no places to buy discs here so I usually buy used packs off e-bay just to try new ones out. Although now I need to make a trip there to buy several specific ones...I hate to pay for shipping when I don't get a deal and as someone else alluded, it's nice to feel the sucker before you dish out the cash. The biggest thing is that I'd like to cut my molds down to bring some consistency to my game, not try new ones to confuse me more. I've been serious for a little over a year and already have more discs I don't throw than the ones I do.

I use a max weight Q-Sentinel for my overstable mid. Great disc, very predictable and durable. I've had the same one in my bag for nearly 1.5 years, and I can't really discern any change in stability.
