Sharpies!!! I had a really cool key chain sharpie but I let someone use it on thier new disc and never got it back. This was a great sharpie for disc golf because I always had it with me even when I didn't expect to need it. :D

I have had the same Sharpie for like 4 years.
I wish Sharpie would hook up our sport with a sponsorship.

Jul 12 2005, 09:45 PM
When I hit my first ever ace, I had to run all over the course asking everyone if they had a sharpie so that I could mark the disc. Ever since then, there has been one in the bag.

It ain't your disc if it don't have your name on it.

whats your daughter carry? i cant believe you left her out of the list.

Jul 13 2005, 12:36 AM
I ALWAYS have a black sharpie in my bag because i write my info in the RIM and it can fade from gripping the disc(and just incase i get an ace i don't have to scramble).
I also have a LIght Blue Sharpie in my car just in case(someone left it in there).

P.s. I also always have some type of Advil/tylenol/aspirin/etc, A small First aid kit, 2 towels, 3+ minis, and old score cards.

Jul 13 2005, 02:57 AM
I have three or four Sharpies in the bag. All black. All in different stages of wear. Overstable to understable. I also carry at least one Special Edition silver Sharpie in the car just in case I get a black disc that needs marking. But, I don't carry it with me so that I don't lose it in the shule.

Also I tried the Sharpie in some different colors, but always gravitate back to the black ones. They are definately the most consistent color of Sharpie.

I did try another brand of marker, but it SUCKED. Anyone who uses Avery markers is obviously a noob or rec player that we should all mock. Sharpie for life! :D

Sharpies are also available in TWIN TIP. Fine, and extra-fine. Try an office supply or art store.

My question is with every disc golfer using Sharpies on every disc, has anyone ever approached the Sharpie company to be a major sponsor of any large tournaments? What kind of response, if so, was received?

I've heard rumor and conjecture on the Sharpie sponsorship thang for a couple years now.
Sharpie has gotten into pro sport marketing; they sponsor Texas ball golfer Chad Campbell and even sponsor a mini PGA tour. So someone has already tapped into this company.
But why do ball golfers use Sharpies? To label their golf balls or to write on the scorecard?

Nice

I'm from the school where you carry only one sharpie. I just hold it differently depending on the text I need to write.

Most ball golfers use some type of unique marking on their golf balls. Whether it be a series of dots or a line or something. Pro golfer Duffy Waldorf has (or used to) his kids decorate, or write something all over his golf balls. They looked like graffti sometimes.

Not to mention Sharpies are excellent for signing autographs on various of items, hats, shirts, pictures etc.

Do you think that Sharpies get more usage from ball golfers or disc golfers? Every disc golfer I know carries one in his/her bag. Does the same apply to ball golfers?

Ball Golfers, I'd say because there are more of them. I see alot of recreational DG'er who dont even carry a bag, and find discs frequently with no marking on them.

In tournament golf you get penalized for hitting the wrong ball, but your playing partner is using the same Nike #1 the only way to tell the difference is if you have a Red dot or Blue whatever.

My dad uses a series of 3 dots all black, when I played ball golf I used 2 dots one blue one red (Kansas Colors :D).

Speaking of marking disc's do any of you do anything creative on the bottom, or top of your discs besides just writing your name, and number?

Not anymore.
Just my name and phone number.
I used to do elaborate drawings.
Invariably, I'd lose the disc within a week of spending hours on the artwork.
For cool art or design, I purchase discs from Drdyed.com.

Jul 13 2005, 03:28 PM
My next project is to make a stencil with my name and phone number, so that all my discs have the exact same sharpie marks. :D

How has Gold Bond not shown up in this discussion yet? I am shocked that no double secret probation team members have mentioned the power of YEAH MENTHOL! Nothing like the help of 1,000 tiny little gnomes helping you out during a round.

I write my name on top and my phone number on the bottom.

There's a guy in San Diego who had a rubber stamp made with his name in the shape of a basket. It's a pretty cool way to mark discs.

Jul 13 2005, 07:33 PM
I used to use an extra fine point Sharpie, but they didn't hold up very well. Now I use a fine point. Except for my putters I use a Sharpie on all of my discs. I use a crayon on my putters so people will think I'm crazy and underestimate my skills.

I write pretty fast. I can write my name and phone number on a disc in 0.2 seconds. Sometimes the Sharpie writing comes off because I throw so fast (and far). I often can see the letters stripping off as the disc flies. This only happens with long anhyzer shots though.

I am thinking to switching to a BIC Super Duty Fine Point, but a pro at my local course said they were crap. Has any one marked with a BIC Super Duty Fine Point.

Sharpie keeps messing with the inks. When I had to replace my red sharpie, I was very disappointed with the replacement. What used to be a crimson red is now more of a weak red with a hint of pink. I can't find any crimson red sharpies anymore. I should have stocked up when I had the chance.

I did notice that Sharpie has now come out with a Sharpie mini (http://http://www.sharpie.com/sanford/consumer/sharpie/newproducts/whatsnew.jhtml). Perfect for writing my name on all my mini markers.

I carry one new sharpie, one seasoned sharpie and one beat sharpie. I use them depending on the type of plastic I'm writing on. Also wind and elevation play a factor in sharpie selection.

I carry one new fine point full size black sharpie and then I supplement with my magenta, green and orange sharpie minis... this equipment comes in usefull during backups in tournament play, which is a fine time to add some artwork to my plastic!!! :D

Sanford "King Size" permanent marker. I like 'em fat!

I write "ROCK'S" on the bottom, and backwards, so when it bleeds through it's easy to see who's it is on the face of the disc.

They make mini-sharpies that you can keep on a keychain... I have one and dig it mightily

Jul 16 2005, 02:26 AM
Ok, about the Gold Bond; I have some in the medicine cabinet. This menthol you speak of, you mean the extra strength?

How do you use it? Do you put in in your shoes? On your feet before a round? After a round?

I'm not sure why I even have any; I think I was using it to stop the bleeding when I accidentally cut a vein while trimming my dogs' nails...

Here's a sharpie poem I have been commissioned to create:

Title: Keep your filthy hands off my plastic, you dirty Bas*#(d!

"Don't pick that up, no,no STOP!
That disc is mine, that's not your roc.
Remember the tee,
Where you hit the tree,
And mine was a perfect shot?

All the buildings you've smacked
The chunks, dings, and cracks...
Don't you think I know ,
That we both threw the glow,
I wrote my name in Sharpie(tm) on the back.

thank you.
