I don't really want to buy glow discs since I rarely play night rounds, but I am thinking about some sort of lights to tape on the disc...I think I heard of "fishing lights" and "night-ize" as possible options, just wondering what would be best for cheap?

Thanx

Academy for like $3. Just by the refill lights for the bobbers. You dont have to by the entire bobber set like I have seen a few do. Gotta look hard but they are there.

Or you could do as I have found others doing. Just remove the light from the bobber pack and out the door you go. I only say this because when I used to use those lights, every time I would go to the store they would be out of the re-fills and most of the bobber packs had them already removed.

I have since stopped using those lights, due to having to hassel with taping and switching the lights from disc to disc or limitin yourself to one or two discs because thats all you have lights for.

I use these (http://www.pocketlights.com/iml.asp) they are a little more expensive($6.50) and a 5ft roll of velcro is around $6, but with one light you can play every disc in your bag. I just carry two in case one goes bye bye.

the lights can be found at Academy Sports.

Please, Please, PLEASE....don't do this. I use the bobber lights and many places are not carrying them anymore because mouth-breathing retards keep stealing them. If you can't afford less than 3 dollars for a light, don't play.

The bobber lights work great, I play almost all my golf at night during the summer.

I was only being sarcastic. I have never taken them with out paying for them, I was only making an observation. I see you have run into the same problem. :( Thats why I switched lights. :o

I have noticed stores that quit selling them for the same reason. The only bad things about the key chain is it adds like 10 grams onto your disc. I will stick with the led's and you can go with your keychain. Lets teach this old dog some new tricks. ;)

Good luck teaching him anything he hasn't tried already.

He's older than dirt so that would be pretty hard to do. LOL! :o;) :D:D

First, take off the key chain part and you can reduce that by 3 grams. :D:D:D

The light and two pieces of velcro add 7 grams. Now, whats wrong with that?

Are you telling me you would like to throw a 181gr Orc or T-bird?

I used the small LED and velcro last year during the winter and it worked pretty well.

I use photon microlights and electric tape, that's around 7 grams. We play quite a bit and have a buttload of fun when we go, which is a couple times a week normally.

I use the red LED bobber lights with the thin duct tape. I could try velcro, but I think the duct tape is fine. I carry a VERY small tackle box in my bag that has 6 or so of the lights, and on the other side it has band-aids and neosporin. I use 4-5 discs for night golf; that way I don't have to switch the lights from disc to disc. Also, I've never had trouble with the stickiness of the tape unless it's wet everywhere from rain or dew, in which case we just don't play!

I just wish more courses would have the solar lights installed, but that's just one more thing for punks to vandalize.

We dont have winters in Texas so the tape thang aint no issue. I feel that krazyeye is on it. If you live in a cold climate then stick with the smaller (more powerfull) lights and use a different medium for attatching the boogers. ;)

i just use the small lunker lights... they work the best and are cheap as hell. I usually only play with a few discs anyway so 1or2 packs would be more than enough for a night of golf.

where would i find the lunker lights?

Jul 07 2005, 04:21 PM
On a lunker, of course. :D

what is the cheapest anyone has found the bobber type leds for? and where?

Jul 07 2005, 06:40 PM
Unfortunately, I'm a yankee, so... what's a lunker?

Jul 07 2005, 06:47 PM
$2.50 each, thats why I use the led lights, $6.50 but one light plays every disc I have.

You do the math.........3 or 4 little lights or one that works on every disc. :D

Jul 07 2005, 08:05 PM
A lunker is a really big bass or fish. When he says a lunker light he is talking about a lure used to attract and catch lunkers. Get it at a sporting goods store with a good fishing department

I'm thinking about breaking a glow stick and pouring it on the disc...would that work?

Just buy the small glow sticks.

Jul 07 2005, 11:23 PM
will it harm the plastic at all? will it wash off? will i ever stop asking questions?

Jul 08 2005, 12:40 AM
I'm from north jersey and i even know what a lunker is :)

Lunker lights are just lights that go on to a lure.. The kind i find usually have 2-4 small glow sticks in each package along with plastic tubes(useless for discs).
I crack them to get them "Glowin" and then use easy tear package tape to tape them to the middle of my clear champion/Z plastic discs..

I can usually find a pack of lunker lights for like $1-3 depending on where you go.. Fishing stores will definately have them.

Sounds like a weekend experiment would solve this. Just use an old disc to try it out on and tell us all what happens.

Jul 08 2005, 02:06 PM
my guess is as soon as it hits the grass it will start coming off.. that stuff doens't "DRy" as far as im aware of and it'll probably all fly off midflight. but it's worth a try and would probably be fun :).

Jul 08 2005, 02:33 PM
That is kind of what I was thinking...unless it somehow stained the disc...

Jul 08 2005, 05:04 PM
I remember one time i melted one open and whiped it on my arms when i was camping one time...it didn't stay glowing very long once it hit the air, but maybe it was because of my skin. I will experiment with this next week sometime and post results.

I played with a some guys in Florida one who broke a glow stick open and poured it on a piece of gauze. Then on his disc layered packing tape/glowgauze/packing tape seemed to work real well. not real easy to follow flight path but he knew where his disc was heading for the most part about a 970ish rated player. He just needed to see it on the ground. And another guy on the card didn't use any thing just said he knew where he was throwing and he did. Neat stuff.

I used the cut open glow sticks poured on paper towels when I played a night round on Halloween. After about 2 hrs. the glow was almost gone. Now I use the little glow sticks taped to the underside of my discs (Z plastic) it seems to work better than taping them to the top.

Does a blacklight make glow sticks glow longer, or only when in the presence of a blacklight?
