I know it's a LONG trip to northern Wisconsin, but I am really surprised at the turnout for this event, I think they're only about 1/2 full.
So I guess I have two questions:
Why do you think the turnout is low, and now will the Winner recieve recognition as the " (under975) National Champion" ??

The PDGA is pleased with the turnout for a first year event considering that USDGC barely reached 60 its first year. It's up against the Brent Hambrick which primarily reduces the potential for top women to attend this year. Players from far away places (TX) don't yet realize it's worth the trip to get there, but 25 states are represented this time for starters.
We'll do the calculations once Worlds are over, but I suspect the average rating of those who cash in the Mid-Nats Blue division will be higher than any division at Am Worlds and will only be behind Open, Master and GM Pro Worlds cashers, making it the 4th toughest division to win in all of disc golf and 2nd toughest for men and women players under age 40. That's why the winner is getting a USDGC invite and the top 20% of Ams get invites to Am Nationals. Whether that means anything to anyone besides the attendees will take time. But I think most enjoy the challenge of winning against a competitive field at any level whether others cheer them or not.

Well besides the Blue Division; will the other divisions at Mid-Nationals receive recognition? Also will Mid-National Doubles receive recognition?

I know the Mellen News will carry the results :)
All results will be posted online round by round like any major event and the disc golf printed media will cover it. Chappy from DGWN will be playing. I think my little segment on the Mid-Nationals will air on PDGA Radio this coming Tuesday as an upcoming event. The Duluth sports department is expected to send someone over during the week. The Whitehouse declined our offer to send the winners to shake hands with the Prez. I believe the PDGA will start to retain records of champions like they do for Am & Pro Worlds.
The doubles this year is pretty informal but we'd like to eventually make it higher profile. But the National Doubles in Texas is considered the title event. Am & Pro Worlds don't even host divisional doubles any more. The SkillShot Challenge is as big as it can be but we've resisted calling it a National Championship until it gains some traction and others host events, too.

Your right Chuck, the first USGDC was a low turnout, and look at them now!!!
I love the idea of this event, and agree that Highbridge Hills is Disc Golf HEAVEN, BEST courses anywhere!!!!! You just don't understand unless you've played there.
Now I'm not someone who complains about a payout, or how a Tournament was run, I just want to see this place succeed. The USDGC gets so many people because they treat you like kings and the payout is SICK, Jonathan does an AMAZING job!!!! Let's hope all goes well so that EVERYONE will want to come to Highbridge Hills next year!!!
*just my 2 cents*

Here's the link to the events page where you can read about SkillShot and there's a link to the scorecard: www.midnationals.com/event.html (http://www.midnationals.com/event.html)
The SkillShot Challenge, which I started developing at Pro Worlds 2001, has since been adopted for the EDGE educational program using a high score format. You could do it at Iowa Worlds last year on the field events day. Standard SkillShot is the same 20 different throws but you shoot for the lowest score like golf. It tests your accuracy on several types of throws from backhand to forehand to rollers to upside down shots and putts. Trophies and prizes will be awarded like Singles and Doubles and I think winning a basket might be involved.

I didn't know there was a USDGC bid for the winner. ****, I might have taken a few days off of work if I knew that.

I think if they added one more division the turnout would have been much better . . . . . . . . ;)

I do agree, it could've still been Mid Nationals because the USDGC doesn't have the lower divions.

I think the winner will be called a bagger and will never have the recognition of the public like a world championship in the open division. The blue division may gain some respect, but all other division will be like winning an Am2 worlds title.
