I love the champ. beast that I just picked up and may be getting a Flash, but I am wondering if it will be too like my beast to even work it's way into the bag. Wondering how others compare these 2 discs

The one i have feels like an Orc in the hand but is alot less stable. It isa little less stable than the beast. Unless you carry 10 different driver molds like some people do, i think it would be redundant to carry both.

Before I ordered my crush, I was told the crush was discraft's version of the orc while the flash was their version beast.

I never have been able to control an orc, but I can control a crush. I was using a flash as my primary driver until it started flipping and flipped itself into a lake.

The flash was very straight for me. I may get another crush though.

The beast and the flash are different as far as I am concerned. The flash has alot more glide and the flight paths ARE similar but still different.

I carry a Beast and a Crush. For some reason I just favor the crush over a flash. I deffinately feel there is room in the bag for all 3 though. Of course I've got a big bag.

Its all preference when you get down to the nitty gritty.

I tend to favor the crush over the flash myself. I actually traded a crush for a flash. I haven't decided whether I'm going to get another crush and replace my flash.

I'm throwing wildcat, xpress, and talon as my main drivers right now. Waiting on an avenger.

I'm curious how an avenger will compare to a crush; I know the avenger will have more glide.

I have both a Beast and a Flash in my bag, and both are 168g. For me they fly very different. One thing you will find out about a Flash is that no ones fly's the same  It seems different colors fly different. For me I have a blue Flash and it fly's like an Orc and is much more stable than my Pro Beast. I should say Much more but it is more stable.

Personally I can throw the Flash a bit longer due to what appears to be a higher flight speed. I am more consistent with the Beast though. I have a harder time turning over the Flash than I do the Beast.

I think the Beast is more forgiving but the Flash can pull off more distance. Flight path wise, I would say the flash has a straighter flight path for the majority of the flight but hooks left harder at the end. The beast has more of a tight S curve for me, closer to a Starfire with shorter distance.

I had an orange flash and a tied die (start off as white?). Neither gave me great distance. I could throw my wildcat, xs, viking and probably others that I can't remember farther. The tied was flippy from the start. The orange one was more overstable, but still flipped.

Perhaps I should pick up a beast. I have seen some players throw the flash and it finishes left for them. But, mine didn't. It's so inconsistent that I hesitate to buy another. I was getting good, predictable D out of my crush: that may be what I need to get. I've been throwing the talon in its place, but it doesn't fly as far as the crush did for me.

I can get the Crush out to about 400. I noticed the flash always got another 20' on my crush because of the glide. I would say that the beast is faster but the glide is'nt sufficient enough to float as long as the Flash.

Nothing can still replace my Orange First run Crush. I only pull that out on special occasions.

I've got a weak arm, but I was putting the beast out near 300', which is another 30-50ft farther than my xs

I loved my Flash when I first got it. It was love at first throw. But lately I have some form issues that appeared. The Flash is hating at me so I am hating at it. But, I am sure once I remember how to throw I will be back to my flash. It is the longest disc for me when I throw it proper.

The Beast is a very different disc for me. Not nearly as long. The Beast was replaced in my bag a long time ago.

Then what you need is a Sidewinder. If you are throwing anywhere under 300 or somewhere between 250-325, Sidewinder is going to give you the most distance for your arm. You will be amazed. When I was first learning distance I bought a Sidewinder and put 75ft more distance on my drive. I know that sounds insane but its the truth. That disc also taught me how to add more power to my drive.

I carry 2 flashs in my bag. One 166 green beat to heck one that I use for really long anne lines that I don't want to flip back over or when I'm going to attempt a roller. The other is a 170 green semi beat one. I use it for long spike anne shots that I need to come back. The avenger has replaced them as my general purpose driver for long straight or slight S shots.

I would not say you added more power to your drive. I would say you just through it more properly and the glide did the rest. It will float well after you think it will drop kinda like a putter. I know I increased 75+ when I got my first sidewinder. Soon after I started hitting the 500' mark occaisionally. This is not message board D!

Now I wanna see if this quarter K is effective! ;)

This is getting a little off the thread topic, but what weights have you thrown the sidewinder in? I have a pretty new 166 champ beast that I can just get to straighten out/flip, but I was thinking about getting a sidewinder or a valk for a little more distance. My beast for me is a pretty overstable disc. What sidewinder weights do you recommend?

I'm glad to hear that as I'm waiting on an avenger I ordered a few weeks ago.

It's been a while since I've thrown any of these discs, but here's my take.

The DX Beast, when new, is the most overstable. I had trouble flipping it up from a hyzer until it was worn in.

The Champion Beast is similar to the Flash, but a tad bit more overstable and not quite as long. It held up better in a headwind than the Flash, but that isn't saying much.

The Flash was the longest but the least consistant. I thought it was close enough to a Champion Beast that having both in my bag would have been redundant. There is a difference, but not one large enough that couldn't be easily compensated for with a small change in technique, IMO.

Eventually the Viking took the place of both of these discs in my bag. For me it has enough turn to flip up flat from a hyzer or hold an anhyzer when thrown flat or anhyzer, but not so much that I couldn't get it to hold a hyzer or throw in a moderate headwind if needed. It does fade, but not too much and it's easily compensated for.

I carry a 168 sidewinder, a 170 flash and a 170 crush. At first I could get the sidewinder out about 340, then I started adding lots of snap to my flash with a ever so slight hyzer release and I have managed 375 with the flash. No matter how much I try I can always expect the flash to be 30 to 40ft farther. My crush seems to be pretty consistant at the 340 range and its "supposed" to be more stable than my flash however I tend to turn it over vs the less stable flash.

Different run flashes really do act differently.

Well, I threw a lightweight (166) ""Dayglow"" yellow/greenish (i'm slightly colorblind) flash today, I don't believe it was just poor form that made it go slightly Anny for the full flight. So unless a heavier flash flies any differently, I'm keeping my beast, as I was consistantly putting it out there quite well today.

Jul 04 2005, 05:25 PM
If you have any power at all, i would suggest heavier flashes. I have thrown max weight flashes and 171-4 champion beasts. Beast is slower, more consitent and more overstable. The flash is faster, less stable.
Also, the beast is a tried and true mold. The flash (like the crush) gets more overstable as the production run number gets higher. I would say the flash is a backwind/backcrosswind disc only.
i.e. stick with the beast

Jul 04 2005, 05:45 PM
I throw a 167 Sidewinder and it works out great for me. I have thrown a 171 also and I didn't get as much distance from it.

I love the Beast! Great disc! Had an ace with it yesterday. I haven't thrown a Flash, need to try that one out.
