I recieved this e-mail today, and hoped someone would be able to help with some contact info.
E-mail me at [email protected] and I will pass the word along.

Hello,
I am a freelance photo researcher. I am looking for a *disabled young person
(under 20) who plays disc golf in Austin who would be interested allowing
him- or herself to be photographed for a middle school math textbook.

If you know of anyone, please let me know.

I appreciate any help that you can give.

Thank you,
Jeanne Payne
Photo Researcher

* wheelchair bound or missing a limb

Ms. Payne should learn that it is:

"a young person with a disability" not "disabled young person," "wheelchair user" not "wheelchair bound," and "amputee" not "missing a limb."

If you are going to capitalize on a person's disability, at least put the person first.

I'll make sure to pass that along. Now, do you have any contact info for the Austin area? Thank you in advance.

I'd contact a local spinal cord injury outreach program. They know who the active young people are and might lead you to someone who plays disc golf.

Brackenridge Hospital in Austin (512-324-7000) has a Brain and Spine Center which might be a good place to start. Most centers like this provide rehab and outreach services.

USA Paralympics (719-866-2030) might also be able to provide information on any local wheelchair or amputee athletes.

The Amputee Coalition of America (ACA) is involved with a disc golf tournament in Dallas in August of this year.

The link (http://www.amputee-coalition.org/annual_meeting_events05.html) is to the special events calendar on their site. Someone there may be able to assist.

Thanks for the link Gary- Although I am in no way helping Joel with this, I enjoyed reading the article about how the baskets got donated to the Scottish Rite Hospital...I have been there with my wife and was neat to see the baskets inside their park...

There is to be an amputee DG event in Dallas at B.B. Owen on August 14, 2005. Disabled Games are to be at L.L. Woods also in the Dallas area on October 22, 2005. A good contact would be Randy Mecca at 214-826-6106. He is looking for any amputee players for the first event and any other disabled players for the October event. Please help him out if you know of someone, as numbers of players are needed.
