Okay, so somehow my talk of disc golf has evolved into my boss wanting to have a company outing where we all go play. It's now my job to find a place where I can get some beginner discs, but since my boss is a tightwad, I have to find them cheaply. I was thinking since no one else in my office has played, that I need to get some 150-class beginner discs. I was thinking Leopards (or something similar from a different manufacturer). What I need to know is:

1. What do you recommend as far as a disc for complete and total newbies? (yes, just one disc)
2. Where can I get a good deal on 10-12 discs?

Thanks! And remember, I don't care about the manufacturer, as long as beginners can use the disc. We'll be playing at Sahm Park, which is a very short course. Thanks!

Check this out 5 Wizards for $30.00 they are putters but beginners won't know the difference.

I would call the guy at gateway and see if he can hook you up.

Or the Pro-D cruch is only $6.95 on this website.

Looks like they are also doing X-out but you would have to call for prices.

X-outs are just like factory seconds but they should fly just fine for a beginner, they usually just have a problem with the stamp.

Here's a disc everyone should be able to throw. It's the Lite Shark for $7.50 used by the EDGE program. There may be a discount from them for ordering more than 10.

Check out e-bay. Going in about four hours are 25 Optimizers. Looks like the seller has 100 of them. Maybe you can work something out. As is the buy it now price is $4 a pop. Not to bad and they are easy beginner discs.

Awesome, thanks for all the responses! I appreciate it!

I'm doing my part to infect others with the disc golf bug :)

Zonedriven has five discs for $25 (https://www.zonedriven.com/proshop/product_info.php?cPath=137&products_id=316). You might contact them to see if they'll offer an even better deal for more than five...

Yeah i'd say go to zonedriven. They have 5 misstamped discs(all the same) for only $25..
that way you can pick up a bunch of light cobras or rocs for really cheap.
I'mgonna be buying a stack of Classic Aviars for my basket because they are the best push-putting disc ever!

P.s. Look under "Practice Set" at zonedrive to find the special.

Bet you could work out a nice deal with gateway for mistamped sabres. They are good beginner discs. Just ask for light as possible and give the lighter ones to the girls, or the guys who throw like girls.

Call Innova and tell them your situation and ask what kind of deal you can get on X-out DX Leopards.

What's an X-out?

cosmetic defect that shouldn't affect the flight. Usually dents in the interior wall of the rim or little depressions on the flight plate. Also mis-stamps.

150 DX Leopards are sweet discs for newbies. 132 Sharks are even better.

Lot of good posts, you should be able to find what you need for about $5 each given the info here. One note I would add is to stay with a putter or a midrange at most. If you end up going Gateway, stick with the Wizard or an Element. I just got a Sabre last night and it's quite stable, like a brand new Valkyrie or Teebird. Along with the 5 for $30, Gateway does have a 10 for $50 deal, any plastic, and that includes their top o' the line E plastic. Remember, we ARE talking about a group of people who have never thrown a golf disc before so don't get them something too hard to throw out of the gate.

Yeah well I'm not even that good, so it shouldn't be hard.. I've received some PM's from stores with some pretty sweet deals. My boss and I are going to sort through them and find the best deal.

Once again, I appreciate all the help everyone! Thanks!

get em some heavy monsters

Yeah, what's really sick is I actually thought about doing that :)

Problem is, to make it fair, I'm going to only use one disc as well, and it's going to be the same one as everyone else, and I'm not sure that I could use one of those things for an entire course without going nuts. My firebird, maybe, but a monster would be disasterous.

The other thing to keep in mind is that I would have to end up saying something akin to "These are 180 gram Monsters, they're a great beginner disc..." with a straight face, and I know for a fact that I can't do that. It's good to know there is someone else out there who thinks like I do... ;)

Doug,
You should take advantage of our missed stamped discount at Gateway.
We also have some 120-140 gram stuff that is so easy to throw including some new 145 gram Illusions.
These new Illusions are in S plastic but have a little E in them, just no weight filler.
They dome up so nice and are easier to turn and get running flat than any Illusions we have ever made.
They are a great beginner HIGH speed driver, but players should learn a few other discs first before getting to these.

I recently hosted a tournament for a cell phone company with about 60 players.
Only about 3 had ever played before.
Ordered 200 Dx X-OUTS from Innova 1/3rd putters
Supplied 2 Light weight Drivers and a putter to each player
Extra driver to cover lost disc.
