I just got hooked up with a chance to play anywhere in the US, and I want to play a course that'll blow my mind. The two best courses I've played here in CA are Delaveaga in Santa Cruz and the Redwood Curtain in Arcata. What have you got that beats 'em?

The Highbridge Complex in northern Wisconsin already has three championship 18s and a 9-hole playable now. And another 18-holer is opening in time for the Mid-Nationals in early July. Check the websites for info: www.highbridgehillssc.com (http://www.highbridgehillssc.com) and www.midnationals.com (http://www.midnationals.com)

The Gran Canyon in Brooksville, FL. Best course I have ever played. It's in a defunct quarry so there's tons of elevation. However, you probably need to wait a few months. It's really a winter only course.

Gran Canyon should blow your mind....there's nothing anything like it, anywhere.

Of course, it depends on what you're looking for. Perhaps you could specify whether you're looking for most scenic, most challenging, best location (in regards to other activities), or some combination of features.

Another thought is Houck's ranch in Texas, soon to be sold. Play a great course before it's gone.

And as posted above, depends on when this will happen. Gran Canyon is on private property and, as I understand it, closed during the summer.

San Saba is usually closed during the summer months also.

john biscoe's course (hawk hollow)...
elevation, a creek running through it plus close proximity to the grange (36 mach 3's on 1 piece of property) as well as loriella park which has some very nice holes...

4 top notch courses within a half hour of each other in spotsylvania,va(near fredricksburg) that i have travelled from tucson, az to play every year!

Warwick in New York should be on your short list - two permanent baskets on every hole. There is also a new 18 hole course being built, but I don't know the status of that project right now.

I would have to agree with Nick on this one Idlewild and Mt. Airy are two of the best courses that I have played. I would also recommend Byron's Big D course in Byron Michigan.

If it's the northeast, you can't go wrong by starting out at Warwick Town Park, go east on I-84 to Wickham Park in Manchester, CT, followed by Pyramids and Maple Hill in Leicester, MA (pronounced Les-ter)

Pickard Park in Iowa is the best course, hands down. No amenities needed, the course makes it worth the trip.

I think is really depends on what you are looking for, toughness..Paw Paw,or ozark... a nice all around maybe Warwick.

Dela is a nice one but you will be very pleased with any of the above...

Depends on what you want to do when you are not playing. Setting, locals and course design all contribute to a mind blowing experience.

If I had a week to play anywhere then it would definitely be Austin, TX just ahead of Charlotte, NC. Killer courses and great music, bars and scenery. If you are not into nightlife I would pick Paw Paw, WV for its beauty and isolation as well as two great courses on private property. But do it during Labor Day weekend when the tournament is in full swing. It is such a treat that I flew across the country to play in it for the past four years (unfortunately will miss this year due to new job). Enjoy!! DD

Hopefully, Highbridge courses could make the list after Worlds this summer when more travelers get to see and play them.

I liked Blueberry and Granite a lot but something about the gold course bugged the crap out of me.

There have been some good changes on Gold and the brush on the early holes has been thinned out making it easier to recover when just off the fairway. They'll also be some new pin placements you haven't seen.

You also haven't seen the improvements on the other two courses since the 2005 Mid-Nats.

i haven't played the red rock course at the Camelot Lodge in Moab, Utah, although I got married there in 2000 and suggested to the owners that they could build the most amazing course on the planet if they were so inclined.

the course was installed and written up in DGWN a few years ago. i have no idea if it is a good design or not, but the scenery is mind-blowing and it has to rank as one of the most unique courses in the world. combine that with riding camels, mountain biking, and running in the midst of towering red rocks in basic isolation from the rest of the planet and you have a great vacation destination.

Great music, bars and "scenery" in Austin, for sure.....but disc golf in and around Charlotte, NC is hard to beat.

Veteran's Park in Arlington TX is awesome!

You know what is funny is I hear that all the time, and don't me wrong I enjoyed it, but I just don't see why everyone loves it so much.

In my opinion, Z-Boaz is a MUCH better course.

Veterans Park is where I learned to play disc golf (summer of '91). The original layout was more difficult/challenging than the current configuration. Unfortunately, the city of Arlington permanently pulled the front nine in spring of 1997 and forced the club to redesign using considerably less acreage. Both Veterans and Z-Boaz are two of the better DFW area courses, for sure!

I'd still take the quality in Charlotte over the quantity in DFW or Austin. :)

Toboggan is a big arm course, very very cool though.
As a tribute thread, there's only one...
Da CANYON!!!
Brooksville, FL (now defunct). If you had two years and a fleet of earthmovers you probably wouldn't be able to build a better course. For sure you wouldn't get the plant growth that was there. Cheers to John Bennefield for having it in his backyard for the time that he did.

Unfortunately, Dan, Camelot is no more. Divorce of the owners, followed by sale of the property to meet the settlement, put it in the hands of new owners who wished to make it a private vacation residence. From what I hear, they sold the baskets to someone in Moab, who is putting in a course in the Manti-LaSal mountains, but I'm not sure who or where.

Camelot was indeed a unique design. Not a single tree on the course, but plenty of slot canyons, wide gaps, and sandstone slabs. The pillar of rock the size of a Suburban standing on its nose right next to basket 13 had to be one of the most visually spectacular disc golf obstacles, right behind the view from tee 5, looking downstream of the Colorado River past Dead Horse Point and into Canyonlands National Park.

Sorry to see it go :(, but so very glad I had the opportunity to put my hand on that wonderful piece of property and give hundreds of folks the chance to play disc golf in that setting :).

Course Designer, Camelot

PS: Look for another possible "red rock" project coming up in Monument Valley, AZ.

ke'Ohana wins hands down.

True crescent shaped island greens(yes, a bridge is needed to access the green), waterfalls, lakes, stonehenge, & graveyards are just a few of the things you'll see as you play the par 72 gold course layout. :DThe only down fall is it is almost impossible to get a tee time.....but when you do it's like a DG fairytale land.

The next time I go home for a visit, it sure would be nice if you could get us a tee time... (hint, hint) :)
