played for 10 years. turned pro after 7. Still can't even come close to competing with the best.

My friend after 1 year of playing is cashing cosistently in pro. To be a good pro you have to be able to throw 400 feet and hit 95% of all putts within 30 feet. And a 400+ foot roller doesnt hurt either.

it all depends on your ability, some players will never be able to turn pro. I for one, took 11 years before I took cash at a PDGA tournament, but up until this last rating, I was really just a good advance player. now with a 965 rating, I am an ok pro player.

Yes, I do agree, Pizza. In the last 9 months or so since i started , I have taken friends, family members, girlfriends/dates to DG Courses.
And some individuals when you see them play you know their potential is just going to be limited. There basic, inate coordination is just not there. They will probably be able to take it only so far. Just a fact of life.
But the great thing is people of all degrees of talent can really enjoy it while getting great exercise.

And for free !!!

Can I get a repeat.

and hit 95% of all putts within 30 feet.

I know a good number of cashing pros that cannot throw over 400ft consistently and a TON of advanced players that can. A dead accurate 350ft drive is needed though.

Intermediate Am for one year then jumped to Master Pro. Been there for 15 years (mostly M-Pro but some Open and GM in there) and back to Advanced for some events this year now that ratings allow that.

my buddy glen (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/playerstats.php?PDGANum=22994&year=2005) only played one or two am tourneys before going pro. he hangs with some of the best golfers in our area.

he's one of those guys who seems to be good at whatever he does. he regularly kick's butt at pool, golden tee, etc...

i'm certain, if he devoted more time to it, he could be a top touring pro.

I was introduced to disc golf in August of 1993, I won the Riverside Glide as a novice in Sept of 1993, I then won the Riverside Glide as a Open player in Sept of 1994 :D Is that fast enough for ya? ;)

My buddy Jared Pennington has been playing for 7 months and just won KC wide open in advanced and will most likely be playing pro pretty soon,

ZERO minutes/seconds. Signed up in my first tourney 10/02/87 and we had 11 women. There was no Pro or Am Women - it was just women. Took 2 years to get my first trophy though. Won Arizona State Championships in Golf, Distance and Accuracy in 1990 then moved to Cali. Went back in 1991 to win all 3 again. Back to back state titles. Took 13 years to get the World title though. My timeline is going backwards. I now suck enough to be able to play as an AM. :D;) :o

Hmmm, Played my first tourney as an am with a borrowed disc. Aced the first hole of the tournament & then won it :D. Have played (donated) Pro ever since. Didn't win another tourney for more then 12 years! Won 5 in 2004!! (have only donated on 2005 though) FUN!

Started out playing league doubles in '91. The first tournament that I played, I won. In March of '94 I cashed as an Am in the Pro Crosstown and turned it down so that I could play the Am National where I finished 4th. I Have been playing Pro ever since.

Me too! :o At least not in an official torunament, but I can once in a while M-F.

Tony Tran went pro after one event. But he was A) a golfer before B) not working at the time and playing 2-3/day with 2-3 drives C) is an incredbly talented individual when it comes to just about anything, especially if hand/eye or dexterity is involved.

Oh yes, and as my old neinghbor succinctly put it, D) "he has a Leprchaun up his Arse" :o

i am turning pro after almost exactly a year of picking up a disc, and only about 7 months of playing seriously. i don't have a player rating yet, but it should be in the mid 970's
