Hey guys.

On Tuesday me and my friends went to a league to play for like $5 and we were surprized to see so many really good players there (Am. 1).

So, we being young and not amazing, all get paired up with a good "pro" player.

So we start playing, and all these good players look at my drives and are like "Wow, what a hyzer!". They said things like this alot and eventually tried to explain to me what they meant but I didnt get it.

So I guess its a style of throw, but is it bad?

Thanks for the help!

David

a hyzer is a throw where the outside edge of the disc is lower than the inside edge (closest to your body). in most (but not all situations) it will have a tendency to accentuate a fade to the left. basically, it is a shot type... it's only bad if you are doing it by accident and don't know why. technically, "hyzer" just refers to the disc angle upon release as described above. there are some shot techniques that start at a hyzer angle and curve to the right.

If your righty backhand then a hyzer looks like / and usually goes hard left during the entire flight or at the end of the flight. A 350 foot Spike hyzer is a very valuable shot to have :D

A hyzer just means that your disc will turn to the opposite hand it was thrown with. So if your right handed the disc will turn to the left.

"Wow, what a hyzer!". {/quote]

I can't tell you how many times I've said that

Yeah basically every drive I throw (all backhands mostly) start off pretty good but always cut huge left at the end while alot of the other guys I play with Backhands go left a little but curve back right and end up pretty straight.

What can I do to fix it because I really am not trying to throw it this way?

first question is what disc are you using?

as for keeping it from going as far left:

Well I usually use the Innova Beast as a driver, but I also sometimes use the Innova Champion Valkyrie and the Innova Leopard.

Mostly always the beast tho.

do the other two discs fade off as badly?

Jun 10 2005, 01:10 AM
Umm I think so but im gunna go tommorow out and play some holes and I'll check that out.

Jun 10 2005, 09:57 PM
Oh yeah I just went today and played 9 holes and all the discs I throw definitely do the same thing. Big hzyering.

Based on the fact that you didn't know what a hyzer was yet (nothing wrong with that, we all didn't know at some point) I would recommend specifically reading the articles on Blake's site regarding disc selection. In my opinion, that Beast, especially if its a Champion one, as well as maybe even the Champion Valkyrie, are too much disc unless you are throwing 300+ feet.

Goto Disc Golf Review (http://www.discgolfreview.com/resources/articles.shtml) and look for the section "Disc Selection".

Most of the disc retail stores will not give you what "you" need, just what is popular. Hope that helps.

Nice call.

Real quickly - A Hyzer shot , turns in toward the body.
Right foot forward -Righty
Left foot forward - Lefty

And

AnHyzer Shot - A shot that falls away from the body.

This , of course , is when facing the target.

seems like you are describing a hyzer as a stall out.

a hyzer generally (but not always) fades to the left.

an anhyzer generally turns to the right (for at least a short period of the flight).

Make the disc spin faster, the faster the disc spins the longer and straighter it will go .

Hey Innova,

Only playing 2 days and you already are Innova? Nice sponsorship.

Now that you're on the same team as Climo and the others, you need to work on that hyzer

Correct , for a right handed player.

When I'm throwing Hyzer ( I'm right handed ) the disc will usually go left.

Anhyzer ( Or turnover ) the disc turns to the right.

The variables of course , is if the nose of the disc is either Up or Down. That's where the Fade part comes in.

Ok I'll take one of ur adivce and try to put more spin on it and throw faster. Worth a shot cause right now the hzyering is kinda rediculous how much it happens.

i went to the course yesterday and on whole 17 and 18 i threw 2 (one on each) perfectly straight shots but i mean i threw them how i usuaully do but i musta done something different because they did not Hyzer at all...

i dont get it. Am i releasing it late or early or something? What am i physically doing ot this disc to make it do this?

Thx guys,

David

( Im going to watched the DGLO tommorow so I'll be watching the Pros and maybe Ill learn something ;) )

sounds like you just got the two straight throws more nose down than usual.

Hyzer : For a Right handed player.

Nose down , angle facing left.

Jun 27 2005, 03:24 AM
Yeah so I drove for a while today and I tried to drive faster and with more spin and it kinda worked but not really.

I watched the DGLO today and watched the Pros but it didnt really help me that much, except i think i learned how to putt better i think.

if you are having troubles with a lot of fade at the end, i will suggest to focus on nose angle and getting/keeping the nose down to reduce/delay low speed fade.

yes it can be quite bad. switch to DISCRAFT ... as soon as you can!

try throwing the disc a lot more flat and with the nose a little bit down. Put more of your body weight into it and get an innova teebird champion it is a great disc for all players
