Okay, I've got a small problem... Two of my favorite drivers right now are the viking and the orc. The viking I use for straight shots that fade just a little at the end, and I use the orc when I want the same distance but a little more fade (I know the orc is supposed to go farther, but that's how I throw). Just recently, my viking (which isn't beat up at all) has started turning over... pretty hard... not like my sidewinder or anything, but hard enough to be annoying (trees). However, my orc, which has the same turn rating (-1) NEVER turns over (unless I throw it tilted to the right a little). These discs are about the same weight, and both are champion plastic. Any ideas? Thanks!

The turn ratings are wrong...

Oh... any ideas as to where to find the correct ones? This kind of relates to my other thread...

How far are you throwing the discs? I've found the Viking to be much easier to throw than the Orc. If you aren't throwing the Orc very fast with enough of a nose down angle it won't fly as advertised. I do also think the Viking has a bit more turn than the Orc, but not enough to give it a -2 rating. I don't think the Orc is high speed stable enough to get a 0 rating and since Innova only uses whole numbers you end up with them being rated the same.

My Viking falls between my Orc and my Beast (all Champion Plastic). I got 5 Champion Drivers in my bag. From Overstable to Understable:

Firebird>Orc>Viking>Beast>Sidewinder

If your Viking turns over, see if you can borrow another one from somebody just to try it out. My Vikings were first run "Zipper" Vikings, and I find them to work just fine.

The "zipper" vikes are more overstable than the smooth top vikes.

Thats the other thing, I regularly throw my viking longer than my orc... I still think there is something wrong with my technique as I can not throw 350' with any disc at all... my longest disc right now is my 170 champion valkyrie, which at the very best i can get out to about 330', but thats not consistant. I bought a 166 Champion Valk to see if I could get more distance with a lighter disc, but that's not working either. I'm not a small guy, so I know that I should be able to throw at least 350', but I haven't figured it out yet. I spent my entire practice session yesterday trying different stuff, and ended up learning to throw my Valk's sidearm, but no increase in distance yet... grrr...

Only skimmed the thread, so this may be irrelevant, but one thing some people overlook is that even when they seem to have some grounding in reality those ratings seem to assume roughly equal throwing dynamics. The orc has a slightly wider wing; as a result, the same power throw from the same RHBH grip (less pronouncedly true for a forehand) will usually generate less spin.

I would suggest asking a local PRO to help you out. They may be able to help you with your Technique. Size has VERY LITTLE to do with distance, sure it helps but it hasnt hurt "JuneBug" or Steve Rico. In fact Steve Rico would tell you that he used to throw further than he does now, back when he was young... :p Like he's "Old" at 25

Many things add up to getting the most "power" out of your shot. Footwork, Hip Turn, Reach Back, Follow thru..etc...

are they the same weight... if the Viking is lighter, even 5 grams, this could account for the variance

with the distances you have listed, basically, you aren't throwing the orc with enough speed/power to make it turn. the speed portion of the innova ratings is quite possibly the most important one.

e.g. given that you can generate a speed of "10", the orc will turn at a "-1".

the viking is slower and requires less power to make it turn.

Could you elaborate on this a little? How do I tell the difference between the two? Thanks!

I also carry a Viking. If it has started to flip for you without getting beat in, your arm may be getting stronger.

The Viking goes straight for me with a slight fade, but I can flip it if I want to. Compare your orc to your Viking again. Maybe the orc will now go farther.

Why is my Viking turning over but not my Orc?

Because the Viking is understable and the Orc is not.

Personally I do not like the Viking. Too stable to be a good roller, but too flippy to be a good air disc. I'll just stick to a Beast for a long distance turnover disc.

maybe the Viking is more submissive than the Orc

Both my Viking and Orc are RAD !!!!!!!

Viking is for low line drives and distance turnovers.

The Orc........Well ...............Just Crank it !!!!!!!
