That would be a great sign (if he helped design it)!
John Houck did design it.
Here's the info for the workday from the park director.
Saturday June 11th
Starting at 9 am; going until about noon or 1 pm.
Directions to the park: http://www.cityofkyle.com/directionstosteeplechase.pdf
The bridge over Goforth is still out, and now the Bunton Overpass is out, so we need to direct people to take the Kyle Hwy 150 Exit, go south on service road, Hwy 81, to 4-way stop, turn left and go over IH-35, turn left (at the Dairy Queen), stay on IH-35 service rd going north, cross over the creek and turn right at Brent Blvd (between the Patriot Car Wash & Kyle Showroom Warehouse), stay on Brent Blvd across Goforth and into Steeplechase and than follow the map.
This fall the bridges will all be replaced and much easier to get to park.
I have told folks to bring tools to cut weeds, brush and trees. Bring water or something to drink. I will bring pizza. I have told everyone to meet at 9:00am and we can work until we are "out of gas", or about noon/1:00.

The following is from Kerry Urbanowicz, Director of the City of Kyle Parks and Rec Department. Lend a hand if you can.
My staff has been working on the site prepping for the week of September 26-30. We have too much going on to work on any Saturday until November, so we are working on the disc golf course the entire week of September 26.
All hands on deck!! Send out the word to bring manpower, hand tools and small machines to clean out and hopefully by weeks end we can set out the baskets.
The plan is to set the baskets out in preliminary spots, keep working on the course and basket locations throughout the winter and permanently set the baskets and tee boxes early spring.

Anyone know the scoop?

yes, the baskets are in, but the course is far from finished. the city workers actually got a bit ahead of themselves in the basket department..... if you're chomping at the bit and just can't wait to see a new course, you could "hypothetically" check it out.... none of the trees have been trimmed yet, and they are still framing the boxes. there are still some trees/brush that need to be removed. the boxes will be poured in the next few weeks, then the final tree trimming and cleanup will begin. look for a final product end of february, beginning of march.

Jan 30 2006, 10:24 AM
Was out riding yesterday (gotta love that 80 degree January weather), and stopped by to check out the Kyle course.
I was on my motorcycle, so I only had the three discs that I keep in my saddle bags (Star Wraith, Ch. Orc, and a Crystal Z Buzzz), plus had to play in my boots and jeans.
The course still has some work to be done (none of the tee boxes are poured, although both sets are framed on all 18 holes, there are still some trees marked for cutting, and quite a bit of cleanup to be done).
However, it looks like the locals are already out in force playing --- I saw quite a few large groups playing herd golf while I was out there.
I wasn't real thrilled with the flow of the course --- that might change as I become more familiar with it. I think the course flow might cause some problems with a large number of players (tournaments).
But the course is going to be a lot of fun to throw. Lots of trees, lots of good long holes, some tough pin placements (how many of those baskets are right next to Plum Creek and on a hill?).
Think a much less rugged Circle C in terms of difficulty (ok, a bit less difficult, but tougher than almost any other area course).
Oh, and holes 16 and 17 are excellent holes.
Can't wait to see the finished product. Good job to all involved.

Sorry for the late notice on this, but I just got word.......
Tomorrow (Tuesday) the folks in Kyle will be continuing to put the concrete boxes in the ground. They will need help anytime tomorrow from 8am to 4pm finishing and covering the boxes. The boxes will then need to setup for atleast 72 hours.
Again, I know it is late notice, but any help will be appreciated. I believe earlier in this thread directions were posted to the course.

Course is so close to being finished. This is going to be another jewel in the I-35 corridor. We should be able to finish the course up on this coming Wednesday. Meet at 9am at the parking lot. Bring whatever you can, but for sure some gloves. This your chance to contribute to an awesome Houck design and take pride in the finished project. We are trying to set a Course Grand Opening for Sunday the 26th stay tuned :D
Directions:
Take the exits for Hwy 150. You will want to get to Hwy 150 going east from I-35. From the north you will have to go over bridge and go south on frontage until you get to the Valero gas station. At Velaro from either direction go East on 150 for less than 1/4 mile and take a right on Lehman Rd. After about 1/2 mile through a neighborhood you will see park and baskets on your left. It has come to the attention of a number of players that the payout system for the weekly mini at the Kyle course is horribly flawed. Explanations for what is being taken out of the pot, is to say at the very least SKETCHY! As far as most players have been told 60% of the pot is paid out to the first place winner. Questions have risen regarding where the other 40% is going. Discnation from what we have been told is supposed to receive half (20%) of what is left over. This in return leaves 20% still unaccounted. From discussions with the Discnation owner, he has informed us that the club has offered him the 20% each week but he has kindly refused any payment for the plastic he provides as prizes. This gets us back to square one and what is going on with the 40% left over. So far two explanations have been given for where these funds are supposed to end up:
1. The money is going to be used to fix and repair Searight and Circle C
2. The money is going to be used to fix up the Kyle course
In regards to both these explanations, neither has been looked upon as ACCEPTABLE!
The City of Kyle was contacted and they have not recieved any money from the club. Furthermore the city explained that they are fully funded and are responsible for keeping the course functioning. The city has also brought another point to our attention, that the South Austin Disc Assoc. cannot take money from the local minis to repair and fix courses in Austin. Any money made in this regard has to be put back into the Kyle course.
Suggestions for S.A.D.A.:
1. The money accumulated so far over the past 8-9 weeks be put up and played for at a one day tournament in Kyle.
2. Since the Kyle course is funded and kept up by the city, try getting Austin to do the same with Searight and Circle C.
3. Host minis at the two southside courses and take funds from their payouts.
4. Explain yourself better and correct this issue!!!
Resolving this problem is important for your club's standing and the sport as whole.

For everyone that didn't see it down in the Waterloo Club thread, here's what Damon with Disc Nation posted.
Hey everyone! The town of Kyle is conducting a course clean-up day on Sat. March 3rd. They're providing free lunch for workers, and we (Disc Nation) are going to be having a mini afterwards. Here are the details:
Course Clean-up will start at 9:00 AM and run until about noon. The Town of Kyle will be supplying a FREE Pizza lunch to all workers at noon. Starting at 1:00, we will have a mini with trophies to be provided by the Town of Kyle, and Prizes to be provided by Disc Nation. The mini will be $5.00, with an optional Ace Pot. The Township of Kyle is very enthusiastic about disc golf and has devoted a lot of resources to installing this course, so this is a great opportunity for disc golfers to show their appreciation for a great course in a great town.
Also, Wednesday night minis will be starting back up at Steeplechase on April 4th. These minis will be held every Wednesday night at 6:00. The format will be singles play with alternating long and short tees each week to start. The entry fee will be $5.00 with $1.00 going to support South Austin Disc Association, with weekly CTP and skills contest prizes to be donated by Disc Nation. There will also be an optional ace pot.
Please feel free to contact Disc Nation at 280-1115 for any additional information about the clean-up day or weekly minis.

Is this course even playable anymore? Last I had heard, it was not.

The course is in great shape, the Parks dept has been mowing/edging. I've never heard of this course not being playable.
Hott Tour will be out there this weekend.
