Decent post Fred,

I wanna approach this subject from a different angle though. Does anyone ever play outside the mental game box? Does anyone use trees as backstops? Are there people like me that are always thinking of a new way to throw a disc? How about trick shots? Is anyone out there trying new approaches to the game? How about putting with a dics verticle? How about playing an entire course with just a putter. Does anyone think outside the box anymore?

i play rounds with just a putter a lot. I usually shoot under when i do.
It doesn't allow me to do any huge "go for it" shots so i play very tight and usually much better.
I throw a putter about 300 on flat ground so that helps too.

Yeah we did just the same thing yesterday at our course. We could not play a round of cross hole safari, so we just played the holes and made up different routes. For instance on a 275ft down hill left fade shot, we had to take a sky hyzer around the furthest tree to the right ~60ft in the air as a mando. Another hole, 340ft slight downhill dogleg turnover shot, we had to make the other players turn over their most overstable plastic. I had to throw a champion whippet and still parked it.

We do this alot since we only have one course in town and it gets boring playing the same shots over and over again. Plus it makes us all better golfers.

I saw a group playing a local, short course backwards a while ago. They just threw from one basket to the previous basket, ignoring teepads. They were pretty nice about watching out for people playing forwards and let people play through.

Playing a tough wooded course develops these shots very well. Sometimes you get those crazy tree kicks and you have to invent shots to get to the basket. Really helps when you play other courses where you don't know the course very well.

Thanks for all the responses. I have seen people playing courses backwards and I am guilty of that as well. It takes the same ole out of the picture.

I have also seen locals come up with monster tee positions or maximo as it was called. Shooting a standard 300' hole that has been remapped to a 900' is alot of fun.

Any different throwing styles seen lately? I've been watching a particular 6 year old child putt vertically and it is very interesting how thrown lightly it will not fly through the chains. It works really well for the tike. Good from about 8 feet out. 6 years old!!! Hit a 25 footer yesterday as well, but not verticle.

Any other crazy ideas out there? Monster aerobee or anything like that?

I have been thinking about making a sling that will hurl a disc like a skeet shooter. Kinda like a plastic whip that comes with cases of clay targets. I am thinking 1000' drives are possible. Although not legal it would be fun to watch a disc go that far.

Putt upside down! Back hand flat grenades that take a hyzer path. Thumber (top-shelf) rollers, weird!
The only problem with playing like this is when you approach your lie, it might take all 30 seconds to decide which shot to through out of your massive quiver!
