On rule 802.01 Discs used in play section F States all disc used must be uniquely marked.

Can someone tell me what I should mark my disk?

Does it just need to be on the botom side and either some patteren, initials, a name?

Thanks
Matt

Anything you want, as long as it serves to identify the disc uniquely.

[/QUOTE]Your mark can be anywhere, including on the side of the rim, if you so choose. Some players mark only one side (top or bottom); others mark both. Typically, players include their name/initials and PDGA number. Some include a phone # and/or e-mail addy as well. (Disc golfers--at least those with at least a modicum of integrity--will attempt to return marked discs if there's a way to identify and contact the owner. Make it easy for others to do the right thing: include some sort of contact info.)

If I'm not sure if I want to keep the disc in my bag I put a tiny "x" inside the rim using ball point pen. Protects the resale value!

Don't worry Bruce you'll learn how to write your name soon.

Until then I'll continue using a big X on the ones I want to keep.

That's a good plan.

By the way, who is reading these posts and writing your replies for you?

(Perhaps Jon is the Puppeteer....)

Would a disc that has an unique stamp, such that no one in the tournament has the same one, ie an Aviar with a Roc stamp be fine?

I guy that played in our last tournament was doing this, unintentionally, he just bought it. But we found out after he lost it after the tournament was over, that he did not have his name in it. But it was an unique disc.

Is that fine. DQing him would not have mattered, he was 5 strokes out of placing.

I am not sure that an X is unique enough, to many disc golfers can't read and sign anything with an X.... :)

I have a hypoethetical ? on this topic. Say I am halfway through a round, in 2nd place. I am putting with a putter which has a unique stamp that no one in my group has stamped on any disc. I make 9 putts with it. On the 10th hole, 3rd place points out that I don't have any writing on it. What do I do, what consequences do I face?

Check out the rules section...
F. All discs used in play, except mini marker discs, must be uniquely marked in ink or pigment-based marking which has no detectable thickness. A player shall receive a warning for the first instance of throwing an unmarked disc if observed by two or more players of the group or an official. After the warning has been given, each subsequent throw by the player with an unmarked disc shall incur one penalty throw if observed by two or more players of the group or an official.

I always carry a sharpie in my bag so if I win a disc I want to use, or have forgotten to mark mine, I can always do it on the course. Also, if I suspect anyone in my group of playing w/ unmarked discs, I can simply offer my sharpie instead of "warning" them. This keeps things a little more civil unless they refuse to mark their disc, which I have never seen happen... but I'm also a rookie..
