I just received mine from the factory. I'm really looking forward to some field testing tonight. Here are some quotes from Botte and Schick.

I threw this disc yesterday (171g) and it is a little more stable than a wildcat. It turned over with just a firm throw. It feels great and the plastic feels awesome. It is a pretty fast disc too. Although I think it is very far away from a predator. This disc seems to hold a late turn for me.

I threw the new Avenger and the plastic and overall feel of the disc is AWESOME. I didn't experience the same flight characteristics as Booty at all. I realize he throws quite a bit harder and farther, but they flew pretty darn stable for me. I threw 168 grams, and they didn't turn at all even with me trying. I would definitely say they are less stable than the Predator, but not flippy in the least for me. Very quick and will be a nice addition to the bag! Give me more please

I threw Brad's 168g discs and they were a little more stable but they still hold a slow right turn, no predator I have ever had has held a turn throwing flat but all my wildcats have. This disc pretty much goes straight for me with hardly any fall off at the end. It is a very nice disc

May 19 2005, 07:47 PM
I got a proto for the 1disc challenge. It is very stable(straight), not over or under. One of my buddies who has never come close to outdriving me outdrove my teebird by like 100 feet in the first week he got one, throwing about 440 in a slight headwind! I also saw Aaron Bonine throw one about 480-500 at the one disc challenge, but hes a monster. They are not faster than a flick/crush, but have much more glide and are very stable(straight).

Time to head to the field...................

The Avenger is NICE! I was getting it out to the 425'-475' range.

In a steady 12-15mph headwind, thrown with a little hyzer angle, the Avenger came up to flat and then slightly rolled over and glided for a looooooooooooooooooooooooong way. Once it slowed down it became fairly overstable and finished slightly left. (RHBH)

With a tailwind the disc didn't turn over as much, (as expected), and hyzered a little harder at the end of it's flight.(also expected).

I'm in agreement with Ben and Brad on this disc. A really powerful thrower like Ben will get this disc to turn right moreso than if Brad or myself threw it(we are not noodle arms, but compared to Ben....... :D). I'm pretty sure it will eventually find a place in my bag.

I like I like!

This has the feel and glide of those first run z wildcats.. Not nosey like the riptide. This should be a great long distance disc. Currently this throws almost as far as the x crush.. Great disc!

Good for corner shots (anhyzer) and late flips.

Of course, a picture is worth a thousand words! ;)

Have i mentioned how easy this disc is to throw?

Tafe,
It is in the Pred/Wildcat family. Same rim width as those 2 molds. Medium depth on the rim. Slightly domey. It's a SUPER glider. I'll post a pic tonight (if i remember). :D

ditto. i threw one of john's last sunday. the avenger is the easiest-to-throw, most-forgiving of the sharp edged drivers yet. very nice for the s-turnover, it is fairly forgiving on release angle (nose-to-tail). looking forward to getting a few of these.

Hi Greg,

They have discs at these events this weekend because I called them and let them know the Avenger was ready. They wouldn't be available for TD Specials until the 2nd run. The best way to order for your TD Specials would be to pull down our custom order form here (http://www.discraft.com/Web%20Pages/CatalogOrderForms.html). It is updated with what new models are available for custom stamping.

Keith- I didn't really word that question very well...

Since we order our Custom Tournament Discs months in advance there really isn't a way we can get the 'newest' discs if they are released right before the event. Unless when we put our order in someone would say "Hey, There is a new disc scheduled to be released 1 month before your event but it's not currently available. Perhaps you should chill on part of your order at this time..."

That would allow us to make the most of our pre-tournament fundraising/promotion and still have a shot at having the new discs available for the tournament.

Also, obviously the Avenger currently isn't listed as an option on the custom order form... but why are discs like the Comet and X Talon no longer available for custom Tournament Stamping?

Big Thanks for releasing the Avenger in X Plastic btw!

Jun 13 2005, 02:17 AM
My friend shane hooked me up with an avenger this weekend from Animal fest.
I threw it a few times so far and except for the fact that i couldn't get a great grip on it because i was sweating so bad and it was so humid i'd say it throws like a fast teebird. Even after it slipping out of my hand i still threw it about 20feet further than my drive with my teebird, but just off to the left about 60 feet.

-Scott Lewis

p.s. after looking at the disc again i have to state the resemblance to the pro starfires...

I picked up 3 at DMDGS this weekend(First event in AM-I from AM-III jump... Didn't DFL, so I got that going for me, which is nice) and holy crap. I grabbed a superlight(164ish), a medium(168ish) and a heavy(173ish) and the 164 glides for days. I was only getting it out like 350-375, but it was pre and post tourney, so I was either not wanting to throw out my arm, or had already thrown it out. It flew like my slightly warn Flash. It would flip if you got a lot of arm on it(the 168, the 164 would flip with a decent chuck, which is why I got it, for spike-anne shots). The Heavy one is in the neon yellow x plastic and it was way way way more overstable than the medium one. I'm not sure what the cause of this was, but it definately was a different disc in my medium strength arm(can only get out to 450 range in pure D, golf D is in the 350 range). All in all, this should happily replace my XS and Flash in my bag(XS is a brownish tie-dyed disc, so it needs replacing with something that can be seen if it lands on a path)

i find the 1.6 overstability rating wierd. 1.6?? whatev.

i was throwing a 170-172 one and it was nice but i couldnt really get a good feel for it because of the dang humidity. my hands were just not letting me grip it well. I can see this disc flying really far though!!

I think it is just a bit faster and pickier teebird with more low speed fade.

Got to throw the Avenger yesterday. I borrowed it so it was a bit light for me, 167g.

This disc is super fast, just like its big brother the Predator. I released it with alot of hyzer to compensate for the lighter weight and it ripped out of my hand earlier then I expected, alot earlier. Thankfully being light it flipped up and flew dead straight, until it smacked into a large bush. I imagine I will like the 174g version. I hope it will be available in Z plastic, since it is a retooled Pred. Definately more stable then a Teebird.

Hello all,

The Avengers have been received extremely well. The First Runs are going fast and the events that received them last weekend had a tremendous response! One TD sold all 30 in one day and said he didn't hear a bad comment from anyone about them. He also said he was using them all weekend and parking holes he had never come close to.

I had some of my pro's and A3 league members throwing the first of the CryZtal Avengers yesterday and they are definitely more overstable. John, I have been messing with this Avenger, I didn't like it at first, I try to throw it like a z pred or a z crush, real hard flat about 5 feet off the ground, and it just got really lazy. I started to throw it like a Floaty Talon, and OMG does this thing sail. Was you punching the disc or floating it when you tested???

Leo,

I've been experimenting with both types of shots. I found that i get the best results when i throw it with a flat release, off to the left a little, throw it 10-15' up but keeping the nose level, or even a little nose down........... It rolls over gently(subtle hyzer flip), and glides forever, helixing back at the end. Long range driver for sure!

Having thrown em in 2 minis and a C Tier event, my avengers are getting pretty beat in. I'm hoping that, like most X Plastic, they reach a good steady state in another couple weeks of play. They DID handle the wind today really well for my mini. I put a red stamp 168 out about 325 on hole 18 of Beast at Mason County Pump Storage. There was a stiff tailwind, and I got it to hyzer flip on me, but it didn't handle the tail wind as well as I liked. Maybe doing the same with the 164 I carry would have done better. Definately has some glide to it.

On another note, I got to throw my first serious round with an ace race glide and it is exactly what I needed. If I put it on a hyzer, it stays hyser(couldn't seem to get it to hyzer flip, but only tried on a stiff uphill, so nose up prolly didn't help). If I anne'd it, it held the anne, only flatening out to plop down next to the pin. These two discs have helped me to greatly improve the consistancy of my game.

give it some air underneath until you get it dialed in. it will always come back if you give it air and S it.

once you nail it, then try throwing flat and low. i will go forever, never totally over, just hold a picture perfect flat cruise, then finish with some hyzer comeback.

but give it air at first. the disc is extremely forgiving with air under it.

One thing I question is the actual stability rating. The reason is, the Crush is rated at 1.8, the Venom at 2.0 and the Avenger at 1.6, this does not seem right to me.

Does this factor in the High speed turn or just the fade at the end. Because for me...

The Crush has a good amount of high speed turn
The Venom was just dead straight, no turn no fade.
While the Avenger flipped flat but held onto that and faded at the end.

I would almost consider them

Crush 1.6
Venom 1.7
Avenger 1.8

Because the Flick is also rated at 2.0!

Can someone help me out with this one.

sandalman
Jun 22 2005, 11:07 AM
yeah, those stability ratings are whacked half the time. i dont know how they get those values.

my venoms are big stable. i actually took em out of my bag and simply kept the flick in. so now i've got a small stack of first run venoms in the garage.

i would say it goes

crush 1.6
avenger 1.7
venom 1.8
talon 1.8-1.9
flick 2.0

altho the flick should prolly be like 2.5 to make room for the predator in between the venom/talon and the flick.

regardless, the avenger is pure plastic sweetness.

It depends what crush it is, and which run it was. Could be anywhere in between 1.5 and 1.8

What do you think a Tsunami should be rated? I know the pred is 2.5 but the tsunami isn't as stable, i'd say 2.2 or so.

I sent the rest of the 167's to Danielle Vargas down in San Antonio. Dcraft sent her heavy ones, so we just traded heavy for light. That's why we didn't have a womens CTP on Sunday. I do have some light Venoms that i'll CTP for you gals this Sunday.

I have the only recorded bird on # 9 because I threw an extremely understable JLS that weighs 149 g. I threw it back hand and it turned right at just the correct spot, then I managed to hit a perfect putt. I am known more for my putts than my drives. They go about the same distance.

However, John, do you happen to have any Talons in the 150 range. I just found on their website that Discraft make those. I would love to try one whenever possible.

I won't be at the mini this Sunday. I'll be in DC again. I think Juli will still be in the other Washington. Perhaps the other women at the mini throw stable enough to handle the Venom. Thanks again for thinking of us. :)

Are these available in stores now, or do I have to get them at tourneys?

If I can't find one at my local shop, what are my chances of finding one at the Michiana Open? I tend to prefer Innova, but hey, I'm too new to be shutting stuff out that could fill a gap in my bag... plus I love TeeBirds, so if this is anything like it, I want it :)

I've tried the 150 Flick. Way too stable for me, except to use as a Flick -- go figure.
I just read up on the Storm. That sounds like a disc I'd like to try.
I'd still like to have lessons from anyone that is willing. I just recently got to where I can throw further than Ken Cantrell can pee. (He used to make the statement that he can pee further than I can drive whenever he saw my drives.)

Thanks again guys

How many max weight Avengers will I get for a brand new Holiday Buzzz? <Insert Evil Laugh Here>

PM me, ok?

Jun 23 2005, 11:57 AM
Ok, here is my review... keep in mind (see sig) that I'm a rookie who really doesn't know how to drive.

I really like the plastic this thing is made of, it's kind of a cross between DX and Pro Line... that's just a random thought.

I got two of these, a 166-168 and a 172-174. They both fly exactly the same (for me) with the slight exception of the heavier one seems to go about 10' longer on average.

As far as characteristics, this flys almost identical to a Teebird with a couple notable exceptions:

1. The Avenger will turn over slightly when released flat, which I haven't been able to get my Teebird to do.
2. The Avenger seems to fly 5-15' longer than the Teebird.

Now, I will state once again that my drive SUCKS, so please don't think you'll get identical results. I do a victory dance when I overthrow a 333' basket by 10', so I am in no way shape or form a "power arm", but if there is anyone out there like me, this may in fact be what you can expect from this disc.

BTW, I also like that it seems very predictable to me (like my Teebird).

Jun 23 2005, 01:15 PM
Chris Pepperling was throwing this thing A COUNTRY MILE last night after the mini. We were doing $1 for longest drive, and i think he won it 3 of the 4 times. I finally got a 1st run Crush to fly further than his Avenger, but THAT AVENGER GOES FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!

Jun 23 2005, 01:49 PM
Approx. how far are we talking?

my_hero
Jun 23 2005, 02:01 PM
500'....and that's not message board distance. That's true, flat ground, light wind distance.

Jun 23 2005, 03:59 PM
Wow... I managed to get 340' out of both of mine at one point yesterday (which is good for me), but that was not the average... Average was probably 310-320... I need to find a mentor :)

How high was he throwing them? Were they turning over when they went that far?

my_hero
Jun 23 2005, 04:25 PM
Right handed, backhand.......They were thrown with very little anhyzer angle ( \ ....left edge up, but not nearly that steep, much closer to flat), thrown very hard, about 15'-20' high. They were holding the anyhyzer line for approx. 380-400', then flexing out for the remainder of the flight. Huge distance with a very little tailwind on flat ground.

Jun 23 2005, 05:01 PM
Hmmm.... gives me something to try... thanks!

Jun 23 2005, 07:40 PM
If you look at the profile, technically other discs should be farther.
When compared to my Wildcats, the dome is much taller giving maybe a little more lift. But increasing the heigth of the disc should increase turbulent air flow. The nose underside is quite smooth whereas the Wildcat has a bead-like flare to it. This flare pushes air away from the underside of the disc decreasing the turbulent flow, easing passage through the air. But all this changes when a variable human does the throwing. My Avengers just seem to drop, I can match distance with a Cyclone! Wildcats are 50-75 feet farther FOR ME. Glad to hear people like another Discraft disc, though.

Jun 28 2005, 11:53 AM

First run X Avenger's---IN! (as in my bag).

Jun 29 2005, 06:46 PM
Do you find them to be more or less overstable than a comparable weight X-Talon? I am curious how you think they compare, as I am a big fan of the Z-talon.

tafe
Jun 29 2005, 07:17 PM
More. My main problem w/ the X Talon was one good hit and it's done. My current one (Talon) hasn't even hit anything except the ground (for a season) and it's done. The Avenger seems like it could take a few good hits before I throw it in a box in the basement. Also, the rim depth is quite similar. I probably would've loved a Tsunami if it wasn't so deep in the rim.
BTW, I threw the X Talon, because the only Z's I have thrown are 1st runs, and they are fragile compared to X. You might really like the Avenger, give it a shot.

I threw this yesterday in the open field a few times. I really like it. It is in the Wildcat-Predator family of discs in terms of speed and rim width. It fits the hand really well and is a straight predictable flyer. I got it out about 460' yesterday in the very humid weather. Not bad at all.

If you are like me and have been wanting Discraft to get a Teebird like disc in their line up, this should definetly satisfy your craving.

I think it goes like this
Z Pred then one step down is the Z Tsunami then the same step in stability down is the Z Avenger. I only have a 174. I would like to try it in a 170 just to see the difference. Im starting to like my beat up X Avenger. I think this will become my new distance disc. On a 370 uphill hole this past weekend I threw my drive 70 ft past the hole with the X Avenger. Thrown with slight hyzer this thing just flips up and glides for DAYS!!!

Aug 08 2005, 10:48 PM
what does the z compare to? is it much more [over]stable than the x?

My X Avenger is clearly labeled as 1.6 stability, and that seems about right

My Z avenger is clearly labeled as 1.8 stability, and that may be over doing it just a touch. That's the stability rating of a crush, and it is not as overstable as a crush. Well, sorta... the crush pulls left the minute it leaves my hand. the z avenger will pull left once it slows down (RHBH of course)

The main difference between the X and the Z Avenger is that the X avenger is more high speed understable than the Z avenger. on a flat hard throw, the X will turn right and occasional dive to the ground and roll. The Z will not do this at all, and I need to turn it if I want an anyzer or helix flight path. The X will helix on it's own.

Edit:
While slightly different, both the X and the Z have very welcome spots in my bag. Each can be used in different situations, and for their own flight path. One mold managed to replace a starfire, a sidewinder, and possibly my beast if I wasn't so attached to it.

The reaper will spin a little faster than a talon. Which is what I like in my thumbers, a faster spin. I tried the flick it was ok, tried the firebird not fast enough, same with the eagle. The monster was close but just wasn't the same...I keep going back to the reaper. Plus with the durability of Z plastic it will last forever.

I was able to spend some time w/ the Z-avenger, and the Z-Tracker last night before the mini.

The Z-Avenger was super sweet. It's a little more stable than the X avenger, but just as fast...with the glide. I likey.

The Z-Tracker was definitly an eye opener for me. It was VERY EASY to throw. I took a 1 step run up, flat release, 70% power throw the first time i threw it, and it responded with a gentle "S" flight with some substantial distance for hardly throwing it. The next few throws were powerful throws, and i found that this Tracker has moderate speed and stability. It *kind of* reminds me of a TeeBird TL, but a touch more stable, and a touch faster. More to come.....................

I just got 2x167's from Sunking ... Can't wait till lunch time so I can chuck these babies.
Also got a couple of Players Cup Crystals. These are FLAT. I bet they are really overstable compared to the Z vers. Kind of pricey (to throw), but really nice if you like the Avenger mold.
X Avenger ... I love it. I'm breaking in a few, and they just keep getting better. Great plastic.

I need more Z Avengers and I want some that are 170 and less because I think I could BOMB THEM!!!

I just picked up 2 169g from sunking discs via e-bay.

HEHE (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7174066056)

I don't read so good....looked like it said they were 171 grams to me

I'm going to trust the 'Subject' of the auction over the body in this case.

Either way, I'm fired up about it because I have a stack of 6 x avengers (3 172, a 175, a 168, and a 165, all measured using a digital scale) that I love. The 172 is my go to driver, but I have problems with over gripping the x plastic as I throw mostly z plastic.

I have been out on the field with the new Tracker and I think it will soon replace my Talon as my #1 driver. The plastic is awesome and the lip is not to big for my hands. Little stable so I dont turn it over as much, which is good for me.

Good job on the Tracker Discraft!!

Where is the tracker available? How does it compare to the Z-XL? Thanks!

I hope and am thinking that there should be a Tracker in my Am Nat's package.

Upon further study, I have taken the X Avenger out of my bag and put a Z Avenger in. One hit on the X and it's redundant when compared with my Z-Wildcat (didn't even last one tourney!). But the Z keeps it's shape.
Pretty wierd that I like the grip and the distance of X more, but all my drivers are Z. That X just doesn't last for me in a driver mold. Ah well, sacrifices must be made.

I'm just the opposite. The reason I like the X plastic is because it gets more understable after a while. I'd like to get my X nice and beat in and then try out the Z and hopefully use it as an overstable version of the X. I guess it's just the difference between liking beat plastic vs. new.

Take a Z and run it over(along with a few other of your favorite discs, and a cd) with the back 4 wheels of a bob-tailed semi, and it will be perfect :Ddid that by accident once with an xs :o

I think the tracker is the most controllable driver that discraft has now. I played with it out in the field, threw it a couple times on the course and it went straight into the golf bag.

I agree. I thought the X-Avenger was "user friendly" until i threw the Z-Tracker! Very forgiving! :)

There is a place for beat plastic. Just not in my tourney bag.
I use hard putters so they don't change shape on me. I do use some beat X-Wildcats, but they really can't get more understable! I just like to know that the disc is going to fly the same, even if I just hit a tree. After a hit on the X Avenger, I didn't even need to throw it to know that it wasn't the same.
Different strokes for different folks, right?

Exactly. I wasn't saying either of us is right, just that it's interesting that we like the same disc, just in different stages of wear.

I've only ever noticed a change in flight after one hit on a couple of different occasions. Two of them are discs that have been discontinued: a first run Pro Teebird and Elite (not Elite-X) XTra. The other one was a really major gouge I put in my soft Wizard (1/4"x1" piece of plastic shaved off) after hitting the edge of a grill. Othewise it's just been gradual changes I've noticed and I don't have problems dealing with that. It's hard to argue with how reliable the higher end plastics are, though.

I tried to order some through Discraft yesterday. They said the Z-Aveneger is available, and is a regular production item. Then i asked for some Z-Trackers to be added to that order, but that was shot down. I wasn't given an ETA yesterday on their public debut.

I'll cheerish the ones i have until i see more!

Like I said, I have a REALLY GOOD feeling that it will be released at Am Nat's. Also, keep checking the Player's Cup site as they will have select offerings.

I picked up a couple first run Z Trackers at the Am Worlds. Nate Doss was there and signed both of them, so I doubt that I'll throw them.

We listed Z Trackers (http://www.sunkingdiscs.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=S&Product_Code =3400-ZTRKR), CryZtal Xpress (http://www.sunkingdiscs.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=S&Product_Code =3400-CZXPS) and a special Am Worlds SuperCOLOR Challenger (http://www.sunkingdiscs.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=S&Product_Code =3400-AWPCH) tonight. We'll have a bunch more goodies going up tomorrow afternoon including some new Sparkle Tsunamis, Ice Champion Sidewinders, Ghost Stamped Z and Pro D discs and some cool Fat Tire ColorMAX discs. In addition look for some rare, G.L.O "tournament only" SuperCOLOR Challengers, a cool new hat from Disc Player and a new prototype golf disc and a lid from a New Zealand manufacturer coming over the next few days.

Thanks!
