Ive played DG for 5 years now and I have a pretty good driving form.I throw 380 consistently and max at maybe 400.this is all i would need for golf in general I know but I want to work on open field distance. The local course has quite a few holes that are open 420-450 shots, just out of my reach for a 2. I feel if I work on D I can shave at least a couple more strokes off my game there. Heres the problem.I get on the hole and when I try to get the extra D I end up turning over the disc and still end up between 350-380.I do this with Champion teebirds, beasts ,Orcs (bad)and as of late I even turned over a Firebird! (i know, not good)
My question is this: Am i generating to much armspeed without proper spin causing the disc to turn on me, or do I need to thow with a Hyzer Flip to get past 400' and beyond?
I know that other people talk on this board about flipping over champion teebirds, but if you are flipping over champion teebirds and even Firebirds then you have a mechanic problem.
Chances are when you are trying to throw "Further" you are throwing "harder". YOu are tensing up more muscles and are not relaxed and you are probably turning your wrist over too.
One of my friends that i play with a lot throws over 450, but he can turn over firebirds when he is trying to throw too hard. He ends up getting a poor release and it causes the disc to come out of his hand at the wrong angle.
I think you are just trying to throw too hard. I bet if you tuned down your power to about 80% you'd be throwing the same distance.

P.s. You shouldn't "need" to throw a hyzerflip to break 400'. I can break 400 throwing a Teebird flat and about 20' from the ground.
A hyzerflip will give you more distance, but it's more touchy than throwing flat.

when you try to throw too hard you are most likely muscling and torquing the disc over. if you have less than 450' of D potential you most likely aren't really "turning" a firebird in a true sense unless it is severely beat up. concentrate on finishing clean. if you watch most pros they generally follow through high on nearly every shot.
you don't need to throw a hyzer flip for max D unless you want to throw flippier discs to do so (which requires less effort imo), and it is possible to throw an overall straighter flight path if you choose the right disc/line.
sounds like you are at the plateau and will need to upgrade your snap to surpass it, regardless of the line you will choose to throw. if you really want to reach those holes now, i suggest learning a distance roller, distance anhyzer, or to putt better from farther out.
