I will be taking the wife and 9-year-old daughter for a week of r and r in Sedona next month. I am planning to play at least a round or 2 in Flagstaff, but after seeing all the posts regarding Fountain Hills on a couple of other threads, I feel that it is a moral imperative to try to squeeze in a quick 18 on the way to our destination from the Phoenix airport.

My first question has to do with course condition. I know that there was apparently some construction taking place at Fountain Hills several months ago that rendered a few holes unplayable. Is this still the case, or is the course good to go for the full 18?

My second question has to do with non-disc golfing activities. Specifically, is the park going to hold the attention of my wife and daughter while I do my thing. They don't play, and I won't be able to enjoy my round if I suspect that they are completely miserable. I want to play what appears to be one of the better courses in the country, but I don't want my selfish needs to get our vacation off to a rocky start.

Thanks.

I tried asking about The Fountain in December, 2004:

Mesa, AZ Disc Golf (http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/showflat.php?Board=Courses&Number=280858&Searchpag e=0&Main=277789&Search=true?Post280858)

Maybe things have changed since then?

from what i have heard, the course at fountain hills is short roughly 5 holes(if you knew where to play them from to begin with)

conocido is the only course TRULY on the way to flagstaff(right off i-17)..but except for a playground there is NOTHING else to do there at the park

long story short...vista del camino is relatively close to the airport, has a nice walking/jogging/biking path running through it and has a playground and water stuff also...

stay with me here please....

in the strip shopping center near hole #12...there is a disc golf/bike rental shop(if your family likes that)...
a chuck e cheese with video games(if your daughter likes that....like my 8 year old does)
also several restaurants and stores with-in a mile of the course(if your wife likes that....like my wife does :D)

there are usually locals always at vista and it is extremely easy to follow even if you have never been there(you can see every basket from every tee and signage is decent)

enjoy and have fun...

Shelly Sharpe isn't far from the airport at all. I head out there now and then to visit the grandparents, and try to shoot over there after landing.
