After this past weekend I am craving another tournament at Waco but I will be in the land of bad payout (KCWO) that weekend. I hope all you guys have fun and someone brings the win back to H-town. :D:D
Matt, thanks for coming this past weekend. Wish I was gonna be in KC with ya. Those guys put on some good events and the courses are sweeeeeeeet. Look for my Evil Twin while you are there. He has been spotted lurking the area. :)

May 11 2005, 02:24 AM
This is the only 2 day event I had planned on this year.
It also falls on the week after my asst manager quits.
If my ratings stay below 955 and I can swing it, I am going to do everything I can to be there.
Too bad, I really wanted to give Matt a spanking. Maybe I should go to the KCWO instead.
Naaa, Waco or bust.
Pizza God I will be there so you can whip up on me.
I hope to be able to make this one. The entry fee is really nice. There were only two events I had not missed until last year. Doubles (National and World since 97) and Waco. I had to miss Waco last year, but looks like I can make it back this year. Really love those courses and Joey has always ran a great event. Hope to sign up next week.

May 23 2005, 03:53 PM
I sure a lot of players will be there. It does not look too good for me. I will be out of town for a week getting back to DFW on 6/2, the on 6/3 i loose my Asst manager of the last couple of years.
I have a replacement being trained, she is doing good, but I don't know if I could leave her for a full weekend in charge by that time.
Then my 10 year old will be out of town that weekend and my wife does not want to keep the 3 year old by herself. (she drops him off with me anytime she does anything. infact he is up here at the store with me right now)
then there is the Rating issue. I have feeling that my rating may be too high with the new ratings due out today.

good seeing you all this weekend
We enjoyed seeing you too, my friend. I can't tell you how disappointed I was not to be able to finish. That's never happened to me before.
Aaaaanyway, enough about that. Is there going to be a freakin' Adv. Masters field, or what? OMB's have all gone away this year, it seems. The FSM was one of the rare MM1 fields I've noticed in '05. Granted I haven't been to any tourneys, but I keep an eye on the events, scores, players, etc.
I'd like to try to make this awesome event, if I can throw without bawling like a big ol' baby. :)
If there's no OMB's, I can always play REC! :)

If you're still looking for a room in Waco, I just booked one at the Ramada Limited & Suites (http://www.ramada.com/Ramada/control/Booking/property_info?propertyId=12478&brandInfo=RA)...which is about 8 miles south of the courses.
The two main ammenities I'm looking for in a hotel when I travel for disc golf are free Wi-Fi and a pool/spa. This Ramada has the free in-room Wi-Fi and an indoor heated pool and spa.
The rate was $64/night.

Rooster,
I try to find WiFi as well whenever I stay away on business, and I found that Choice hotels (Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Sleep Inn, etc.) very often offer free WiFi. In Waco, I'm sure there's a Comfort Inn that might be cheaper, and Comfort Suites would be about the same. I love the layout of Comfort Suites. I stayed at one of the Tulsa ones, and it was SO clean. Not to diss the smokers out there, but the one in Tulsa I was at didn't allow smoking, and it was the cleanest, best smelling hotel I've ever stayed in. I'm definitely staying there next year for Worlds. Maybe by then I'll have a free week's worth of points!

That's a 40 to 30 minute drive but we do have drinkable water.

Good to know. Hotel rates are weird. Sometimes they make no sense at all. Same with airfare. It's almost price gouging sometimes. It's just odd when often you can find a nicer hotel across the interstate for $20 cheaper. Go figure.

I can't wait to go to Waco. I think I love playing there mainly for the beauty of the place, even now that my game is trash. If you've never done it, you should drive up the park road into the cliffs to some of the scenic overlooks, including Lovers' Leap. One of them overlooks the beast. I remember going to Cameron Park when I was 11 years old ('71), visiting my Grandmother. I even lived in Waco for a little while in '80 and visited my family there once a year up into the 80's. The boat races (@ the beast) are a blast. I guess they still have them in May. Seems like there's always something drawing me back to Waco. :) I'm bringing my mountain bike this weekend.
Just a reminder to everyone: Don't forget to bring some OFF. It will be well worth it.

Jun 09 2005, 11:09 PM
Cameron Park has several hazards besides water!!!
Bring a can of WD40 with you. If you get chiggers spray yourself with it.This will smother the chiggers. Believe it or not it works and you only smell like a mechanic for a few minutes! You might have to repeat the process once again.
You can get COW TAGS from a farm store and tie them to your shoes to help prevent chiggers, ticks, and other crawly insects and such.
AVON makes a product called "Skin so Soft lotion". It has sun block and insect repellent mixed together... works good and does not smell bad.
Another thing at Cameron Park is POISON OAK and IVY!
There are several products you apply before going out in it to help prevent getting it.
READY FOR A GREAT TOURNAMENT!!!!!!
P.S. anyone seen a players list yet???

isnt that the truth, What I cant figure out is, if once you accept cash and forfeit your chance for worlds, why would you still play ADV? makes no sense. Anyway good luck to all the Austin players.
Honestly, everyone has their story so blasting them was a little quick on my part.....maybe not! But, if you've got time to finish in the top five in ADV for several years in a row. It's time to test your skills at the highest level. I played for the love of the competition, not money or discs. I couldn't wait to play pro.
On a more productive note. I hope everyone is having a great time in Waco. Joey, is a true prince of the sport. If there is a lifetime acheivement award the dude's got to get it.

Does anyone know anything about a DGer that got in a wreck on South-bound I-35 between Hillsboro and Waco, someone in a black SUV? I passed by the wreck at around 7 am-ish, and had no idea it was a disc golfer, but someone said it was and that their discs were all over the road. I didn't happen to see that but was wondering if anyone knows anything about it.
Tourney was completely awesome, first class all the way through. I wish I hadn't strained some muscles and could have competed on Day 2, but there is always next year...and I doubt Mr. Collier will be able to play on Am weekend next year!

For those who haven't done the score posting, there are two steps. First, create the alternate course layouts which the TD did. But the second item is to assign those layouts to the divisions who played them in each round and click the update button for each round. We may need to provide a little more prompting to help remind TDs who we know are at least trying to upload results for their players to see ratings.

Look at the tournament where he played am and compare his scores to the open scores, and he would not have cashed at Cedar Hill, Z-Boaz, and I am sure that there are many other tournament that he played am in where he would not have cashed in open so what is the problem with an am playing am?

I haven't met an Advanced player who hasn't accepted cash in doubles, leagues, unsanctioned singles, ace pots or side action like skins or wolf. Have you? Just because an Advanced player hasn't accepted cash in one type of controlled event, PDGA singles, doesn't mean they aren't willing to win cash in general or are somehow superior to those who have accepted cash in a controlled competition, especially if their ratings are in the same range. Pot calling the kettle black...

I have come to the conclusion that Gary is in Ams for different reasons, so be it, that's his choice. I had heard he wanted to be the first player to 10K points last year sometime. He's not robbing anybody of a win. He could of been beaten this weekend but nobody could play as consistant as him. Most players let Gary get to them mentally, maybe that's his drive. Every card I played on this weekend somebody was ragging on Gary. Zip it and beat him was my response. I've always felt regardless of rating or cashing when it's time to move on and play competion that your capable of competing with, do it. I played alot of rounds with Gary and he is very consistant. If your this consistant you should be playing pro at every event. In his case I just don't see why he is hanging around. Like I said in the beginning he's playing ams for different reasons. Good shooting Gary, again.

Joey - Thanks for putting on a great tourney. I enjoyed the people and the middle rounds /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Alright - I have one thing to ask and one to say
1 - To say - Back off of Collier. Yeah, he has won his fair share and so on. However, he played solid golf all weekend and beat you (me included). Now, let's open up the course and grow up the grass. Is Gary going to throw pro-rated rounds? No. He's following the a pretty fair rule, and he obviously plans to move up as soon as his rating goes up. If you want to bi_tch, why doesn't someone jump on JJ or Steve Lonart (989 rated playing 2005 Am Worlds)? That's bagging!
2. To ask
Who all cleared the Brazos?
I know these people did
Troy "+29" Soules, Testa, Robbie "Puny Arm" Bratten, Brad "Did he just do that with a two finger?", and myself. Anyone else?
I have no issue with lower rated pros playing Advanced on occassion. The issue I have is that Gary basically payed his entry to the AM B-tier with the money he won from the Professional National Tour side of the same event. Completely within the rules but a pretty weak move imo.

At most tournament that are held on separate weekends, the Am's play first. Then you always have players that play both weekends. Do you complain about that. Just look at how many players play both Sat and Sun at the ZT10 Finals.
BTW, I never did better than 4th place in Waco as an Adv player, but in 1999, as a Pro, I got 12th place. My best finish ever in a Pro event (and A tier to boot)
No i have no problem at all with a player playing am weekend first and winning then going on to play the NT side and cashing....that is not the case here. Do I really need to explain the difference?
BTW, what does YOUR playing history have anything to do with it??

Let's see Gary has a decent drive, solid short game, mentally tough, places quite often, and an all around good guy. Well let's just say there isn't enough of that in the Open division. Come to the Open and stay for awhile. If your game suffers and your rating allows you to go back down then go back down, but at least give it a shot. I have nothing against Gary, he just doesn't belong playing in the Ams world anymore; he has grown out of it.

did u see how many strokes that we beat him at spring valley?
And that is with out the final 9 holes.
I think that if he wants to play Advanced that you guys should let him be. It's not like he is wining by 10 strokes. I mean he shot a 61 on the beast and you guys think that is bagging. Winning 10 straight advanced tournaments is bagging, winning by 10 strokes is bagging, shooting a 7 over par to win by 2 is not.

its kinda funny everyone grilling collier over not playing exclusively pro!! He actually wants to play open!! I remember him telling me recently how he had hoped his rating would move above the 955 line so pro would be his div.. He is just playing the game as the pdga has established!!

Hay I have no problem with this guy playing Advanced, but if he wanted to play open who is stoping him?
You could hav a sub 900 rating and play open.
I think it is more of the matter the pdga memberships has almost doubled since he started playing, and he is still playing amateur...

Is anyone forgetting this was an AM only weekend!! And it will most likely be the last am event Gary will ever play in waco!! :DLike he had the option to play open in Waco this weekend!! I wish he would remain in advanced for a couple more years!! He is one of those guys who I enjoy trying to beat, good competition!!

Hey PDP said that he showed up to play am weekend and the TD said that he could not play? is that true his players rating is low enough, and he's never cashed.

You missed the part where won items were donated to NewB's. The comeraderie of the event was far superior to others. Again I say perhaps the best run event. And who cares about those pro guys anyway's. This tournament was an enlightening event for many, and one I would say needed to occur, to shed light to others. BTW, I agree in principle with you though.

Ps. for those who don't know - It is NOT cool to talk @#$% behind someone's back just because they can't hear you. There were 2 others there that could hear you and you made yourself look stupid. Hey this is just a warning. DON'T let it happen again
Thanks man... You are cool ... Dont worry.. I am used to that.. Thats why I am glad to be deaf and dont need to hear their @#$% talks while I putt. :D

MTL, let's get something clear......there was no problems in Asheville, as the tournament was based on a sort of bagging scale. It was perhaps the best run event ever though, with SKINS!!!!!!!!
Back to your regularly scheduled ribbing thread.
Let's not forget that a pro won, another pro got in the skins, many pros took cashing spots from ams, pros played intermediate, and adv players (like yourself) took cashing spots from intermediates.
I would call that a mess.
I'd tend to agree...
IF we had an amateur classification of players.
