Ladies and Gentlemen.
The Lubbock Windriders Disc Golf Club would like to invite you to our 13th Annual Big Arms on The Brazos disc golf event to take place June 18th and 19th 2005. This is a B - Tier PDGA sanctioned event.
There will be a (Bring you partner) Doubles event that will take place Friday June 17th for those of you that will be in town and want to familarize yourself with the course.
Proud to announce that Mace-Man will be in town to take care of our Am. Payout and will surely have a great selection of merchandise available.
There will be 2 rounds played on Saturday of 24 holes and 1 round to be played on Sunday of 21 holes.
Final 9 for top 4 Open players.
I would like to thank in advance all the members of the Windrider Disc Golf Club, Without your support and love for this sport none of this would be possible. :)
69 Holes? Hmmmm....I'll leave that for McCoy or someone else. :)
Pookie, good luck. This is a great event on one of the best courses Texas has to offer. I love McKenzie Park, although its never been particularly fond of me.
This is one I've been to two times. I hope to make it three.

This tourney will go off as planned. Unsure about whether it will be a B or C tier. It will definitely pay out big time as usual!! If all our sponsors pan out and I'm sure they will, we should have atleast 1500 dollars added cash. I am donating $ 500 to be the Masters division alone :D we will be playing three rounds of 21 with a final nine for the top four Open players...sorry ElChile :( We will have doubles on friday with flex start from 4pm to 6pm. Lunch will be served sat afternoon compliments of Carinos. Maceman will be handling the Am payout as usual so you will be able to pick your own prizes form his collection of goods!!! This will be a great tourney run by the whole Windrider club. Tentative entry fees will be Pro/Masters $50, Advsnced $40, Am$30, and Novice $20 if needed Jrs. $10. Sign ups will be taken Sat. a.m. from 7a.m til 9 a.m. Player meeting at 9a.m. with tee off at 9:30. No one will be turned away!! For any questions you can call me at 806-438-3958. I think we should have a big drive contest on hole two. maybe pay 10 bucks for three throws and take your longest throw. and have prizes for the winners.
It is not scheduled but I do want to talk about it with the club.
what do ya'll think???

May 25 2005, 09:32 PM
N8, We usually have a Big Arm contest on hole two between rounds 1 and 2. We will probably do it again this year...you are in charge of that contest. NO ROLLERS :D
n8bitner
May 26 2005, 01:43 AM
I am down as long as i can atleast throw!!!! And you know it wont be a roller!!! :D
Awesome.....
I would like to say thanks to Rob Lee and the Windriders DGC for stepping up and taking this event along in stride. Once again I apologize to all (those who call me know the deal) for the unfortunate circumstances that have prevented me from doing this event.
All being said....
Rob called me and mentioned that this will be a C-Tier event. Sponsors are coming along as well and that this event will take place without a hitch. There is alot of support out there and things are shaping up real well.
Those of you that have played this course know what is in store for you, For those of you that haven't I know that you will not be disappointed. So plan on making this trip and playing some great golf with some good competition.
Heck we have some World Doubles Champions in the house. :D
I will bet (only one taker) $50.00 to anyone in MA1 that Nate Dogg aka World Doubles Champion will take 1st. :)
(hows that for pressure Nate) :D
oh...

Long drive contest is planned, sort of. Rob needs someone to step up and COMPLETELY handle it. Gordo is a possible. N8, please get with Gordo and get it done. I sent Rob misc. long drive info (signup, location, rules, roller vs air throws, etc.), I can send to you and discuss if you run it. Also, to counter the BIG ARM long drive, we will have a putting contest for a basket (more details later)...we need someone to step up and take this over. I'm working with Hub City Brewery on a few fronts....they hopefully will be supplying us with beer at the park. The brewer has again brewed a large batch of Cliff Shot Kolsch that will be ready by tourney time. They may also host a Sat. happy hour for all who play in the BAB (more later).

Nate - I have seen you play this game. You own him, He is nothing. You are launching missles out there and the putt cannot go wrong. Do what you do MAN. Get that win. Heck.... I do not even need the $$$. If you win this thing you can have it. Lets just say I will stake you.... :)

The only reason lubbock win most divisions is because they were only 4 people form out of town. I can't wait next year I will get the JR mafia up there.
Open-CODA, Myles, Greg, ME, Dario, and JAck
ADV-CORAL, Chris, IAN, Chris L, DEVAN
INT- (not many JR's below 915) JUSTIN, Scott
Womens pro- Nikki Ross (yes we will get her)
womens ADV- Megan Stroh, Deanna Ross.
Next year all you guys will be crying. :D

I think that the upper divisions are usually split (local vs. out of towners). The lowere divisions are loaded with locals. Typical of most tourney's I'd think. Jr's: if S-Katt would stop football, basketball, track, cross country, and play more than once every other week...beware. I watched him throw three 450's with slight headwind a few days ago. I can't hand with his drives anymore.

I usually don't partake in online discussions, but in order to keep us on the first page I'll make an acception. V and I have no misconceptions about what division we should play in. Our W-D scores wouldn't even cash in Masters and we were like 40 more than the MPG in '04. Their final round that includes 6 holes of worst shot was better than ANY of our rounds in 3 years. The main thing is, we can't get the GM's to come to WD. V & I recruited at Worlds but almost no one came. Playing only 4 tournaments a year, healing from a spinal fusion in '04, and being 58, I'll stay right where I am for a while. My plan is to play MPG at '07 World Doubles as Kenny's partner and decline the cash. Then I'll play Adv. Sr. GM at'07 Worlds. THEN I'll consider going pro (but who will I compete with?). Mostly I'm still working on my game and am thankful for every day I get to play .
Grab your bags and come play the BAB!

I usually don't partake in online discussions, but in order to keep us on the first page I'll make an acception.
While reviewing a thread on Rules last night I saw several mentions of the Word Police. It gave me the idea of inserting some interesting concoctions and see what response I'd get. Little did I know my weisenheimer brother would be the first to take the bait. As the reluctant BAB TD, a former badge totter, and the holder of that degree, I can wordsmith anything I want with impunity. As such, I must ACCEPT the fact that I must make EXCEPTIONS to all my personal plans until after the BAB. Hence, ACCEPTIONS. Look for more, but not many, in the future.
Lubbock was pounded by hail and rain last night and again tonight. Pounded my truck, broke our bedroom window, and 2 in my RV. The course should be at its finest by June 18.
I've submitted the text to TitleDisc so online registration should be a reality soon.
It's time to stop the smack and make the drive to Lubbock. Let's see who can last 3 rounds at Mackenzie without losing their cool-or all their discs!

Jun 02 2005, 06:02 PM
there will also be 2 salazars there as well!! !!
change of plans!! maybe next year!!
Let me sum it up for you since I know mostly nothing about it:
The original TD had a scheduling conflict. The club had to rush to get re-organized, get a new TD and drum up some sponsorship dollars. Just to be certain they hit the requirements that need to be hit, the tier level was reduced.
Let me reiterate I really dont know- I just wanted to watch myself type.
bigbadude
Jun 02 2005, 06:11 PM
Josh you can type :Dbut the money will be better than a "C"tier event more like the "B" tier tournament. :cool:Even better than some "B" tier events that have already happened. :o:D

Word from the top of the food chain (Gordo).
David Woody Hits the ace on #14 to win what I understand to be one of the largest ACE pots in windrider history. (Confirm this for me please Mr. Nix). I heard that it was upwards around $900.00 + some change.
Congrats to this guy for hitting this ace and may I say that if there was anyone more deserving to get it its this man. I miss you guys,so hurry up and build it back up and give me a reason to come back and make my return..... :D
Attention Lubbock Windriders:
Please be advised that this is just an un-official update. Feel free to contact any windrider member before jumping off a cliff, or driving blind down 289. I feel your pain.
Tell Woodman that he is my new hero!!!!! Sorry Gordo :D

Always one of the best paying B-Tiers. Also you can camp on the course inside our tourney central with bathrooms and running water in the club house, barbecue grills, and its fenced in with barb wire for your safety. I have been off-line over the weekend. Regarding the lowered tier status: Josh's explanation was correct. We had a lot of trouble with reports last year, so we did not want to miss the PDGA requirements for a B, including minimum # of AM players, and upset the PDGA. They were gracious to us and are helping me get up to speed on what I need to know and do. We'll make the added cash and then some. The club will not make a dime on this event. Everything goes to payout and perks.
Thanks Ben for getting us on titledisc. I was worried, hence the numerous emails.

During the excitement of the final nine someone came into the HQ and ran off with a folder containing a bunch of documents, about $600 in checks, and about $600 in cash. One of the checks was a big one from a sponsor and we got that one reissued. Several small entry fee checks were there and we did not know who they were from. Much of the cash was raised from special events and lunch. We dipped into club funds and an emergency loan so all payouts were made on time. No one tried to cash the sponsor check. The really bad news is that whoever took it was from within the disc golf community :( No one else was present. It won't happen again!

Hey Rob,
Will this be a B-tier?
Ray
We are a C-Tier this year. With 27 days until the tourney we did not have a sanctioning agreement and a TD change. With no advance publicity, no sponsors yet, no early sign-ups, and having to beg the PDGA to grant late approval I did not want to take the chance that we might not make one of the B-tier requirements: 48 am players and min $1750 pro purse. PDGA has been real supportive. They know sheet happens and were very helpful to ensure this happens. We will have the added cash and a high % pay-out, but we just don't know how many will show. It's great that you are comming and all the recruitment everyone is doing.
B-Tier, C-Tier, Schmee-Tier, it's all a wash. Don't let that decide whether you signup or not. Leave your ego at the door, pack your bag with overstable discs, and come play The Big Arms!!

Larry 'Dude' Foster has been busting his old man tail cleaning up the course. It is great to have the help. It was also good to see quite a few others pitching in this year! Stephen and I are near complete with our part. I've said it for the last consecutive four years....the course is in the best shape that it has ever been in (and the old man agreed, and he has seen the course for a long time). We have been greatly blessed with lots of rain, so for West Texas, the course is very green as well. My point is that this is definetely the year to try out the BAB. Don't fear the drive, make the drive! Oh and our landing strips 'er tee pads are the 'best in Texas'...and I'm working to get a few more in by game time. We are planning a few 'extra things' to make the course even more special.

Jun 09 2005, 01:58 AM
Oh, another thing! We have secured beer for the BAB! The best kind of beer...FREE BEER...from Hub City Brewery. They will be donating two kegs of CLIFF SHOT KOLSCH (name in honor of #11 Cliff Shot). Beer will be availble between round 1 and 2 and after round 2 for a short time. Hub City is basically just around the corner from the course, and they want the BAB disc golfer business. They have also offered to give us 10% off of anything (beer, food, or other). Cards with more info will be given out at registration. There will be some other interesting beers on tap in honor of the BAB and the proximety of the course and the fact that I've given them half my paycheck for the last few years and mostly the brewer and his friends are DG'ers and will be playing their first tourny. Beers like: Big Arms Amber, What Wind - Wheat, Indian Mound Pale Ale, Brazos Brown, and Stonehenge Stout. And for you non-REAL beer dinkers (the watered down beer drinkers), yes they do have Mill, Bud, Crs, Etc. Light. FYI - Hub City Brewery was rated the number one brewery in the nation a couple of years ago.

Yeah I will be there. Mike is going but James will be in H-town. Lubbock was the first course I played when I moved to Tejas, caught it coming in from New Mexico so it will be nice to go and play it again. I found out real quick why they are called Windriders in Lubbock. :p ;)

Registration list?
Only 4 more days......!
Been busy gettin' course ready & learning the reporting requirements & have'nt been able to learn how to do that yet. Mostly, everyone seems to be waiting to rush to sign up on Fri & Sat, which makes it just like every year we've done this. With all the promises and rumors I'd expect 60-80 players. Others think 80-100 with big fields in Rec and Am. All of our added cash goes to the players no matter how many show.
Finals (with skins, amount TBD after we add drink sales, etc.)is top 2 Open & top 2 Masters with ties. This will be a safari 9 after a LONG third round. Winners will really earn every dollar.
Weather update: Highs of 95-99, Lows of 68-70, and lots of sunshine
Course looks GREAT. Many Windriders are putting in boo-coo hours especially Marcus & Patrick. Our new sign is up, everything mowed and trimmed. Especially helpful has been LARRY FOSTER. Y'all remember him as one of the original Windriders. Well he's BAAACK! Out there every day and doing all the little and big things that will make this course a real joy to play.

I have talked to Troy Soules and, Stephen Brower, Jeff as well as Troy..... and possibly Pepper will all be heading out on Friday after work.
Do not fall into the trap of "I don't know who is going" or "I don't know if there is going to be anyone in my division". There will be people in your divisions and good times for all. So make plans to get in the car and head west.

Jeff,
Italy was a blast. Just like any place you go, a couple azzholes, but they didn't ruin it for us. There's alot of old stuff over there to see and we just couldn't see it all. :D

Rob Lee and the rest of you Windriders are doing a great job, I had no idea that the course need that much work, or I would of not asked so many questions, players list and weather thing. Is that better Josh? :)
