Ok I have decided to get a Wizard putter in hopes it will help my putting game out since I cannot find a putter I am comfortable with. But my question is which plastic and firmness should I get?
I putt better with midrange disc but I think thats because the lower profile. I am not sure if its because its stiff or not. I have heard the Soft Wizards "S" are pretty nice. What would u guys recommend?

In my opinion the harder and stiffer the putter the better. I put with Cam Todd challengers and they are super stiff and super hard so I would recommend getting something along those lines.
Id reccomend trying a Hard Wizard a 11X Aviar and a Cam Todd Challenger for your putting needs. Im a Discraft guy so I LOVE the challenger but you might like something else. Give them all a try but remember the PUTTER doesnt make the PUTTER' the PUTTER' makes the PUTT :D

I use the "SS" wizards and actually the "E" are soft and suprisingly grab chains pretty well. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Thw Wizards are available is 4 different styles in the S plastic...... super soft, soft, medium & firm. My suggestion is to get a "soft" and a "medium" Wizard and see which works better for you. Both have a rigid rim with the difference in stiffness only on the flight plate. I find the soft to be a bit easier to grip, so I use this one more for putting. I use the medium for upshots & short drives.
You might want to call Gateway and get the 5 Wizard discount deal.

I doubt there will be anyone there because Justing is soming to Waco today.
The Soft Wizards that I've seen recently have been pretty cool. They're still pretty firm but also kind of tacky. The colors I've seen them in remind me of Sweet Tarts. If you want to be sure to get something a bit sitffer, the medium Wizards are plenty stiff. I haven't seen a firm Wizard but all of the S Wizards I have seen have similar chain grabbing ability.

Soft wizzards for sure. They have become my up shot disc of choice. They hold a nice anny and flaten out very slowly and they make a great putter for turbo putts.

Ditto.

I would also recommend the Soft S Wizard. I've been using the softs for about 6 months after using a Hard for the previous 3. I was somewhat suprised that the hard and soft seemed to feel the same in the hand, both very firm, but there is a noticable difference if you flex the disc. The hard doesnt want to flex at all, while the soft will have a slight flex.

I think the two ones to compare are the soft and medium, i like the medium personally, but those are the two to putt wiith. E sticks in the chains but is sloppy in the hand. Best putter to drive with available though, no question about it.

So what we have established is:
Soft or Super Soft "S" is best for putting
Medium or Firm "S" is best for upshots and layups
"E" is best off the tee and in the wind.
There...thats all you need to know about Wizards in a single post!
Thanks for all the replies. I think what I am looking for is a 10-50 putter so I will go with the Soft "S" Wizard. Thanks again for all your help.

You won't be disappointed with the soft wizard. The mediums turn soft after a year or so of putting, while the softs wear a little quicker. The super softs will actually get flippy. I use the soft, but only for putts or wide open drives. The plastic tears easy and mine has gotten gouged by both the basket and the number plate on top.

My SS Wizards got beaten up fairly easy by putting with them in the backyard (two baskets). They now are stable with no wind, and fairly understable into a headwind (even with a hyzer release). For this reason alone, I think I'll be sticking with my Soft Challengers, which seem to keep their stability longer.

Try a soft one instead of the SS. Wizards fly truer than the challenger imo.
How does weight come into play with the Wizard? Should I focus on a heavy putter?
I am mostly looking for a 10-50 ft putter everything else I won't be using the putter for. So what weight would be the best for that?
Max weight.
The lighter it is the more it will get affected by the wind and Putters already have a high profile as it is so you need to minimize how much the wind plays with it.
I suggest always max weight with Putters.

I agree, Max weight Soft Wizard for Putting.
Max weight Medium Wizard for upshots.

Don't worry that much about max weight. As long as you are over 170g you'll do fine. 172g Wizard = Max weight Aviar.

I second that...Challengers are fine, its just that Wizards are THAT good. Give the shop an email:
[email protected]
and ask about the 5 or 10 Wizards discount deal...it may take a few days for a response b/c Justin is out of town for a tourney, but it'll be worth the wait for sure. Later!

Is that deal only for X-outs? I have a hard time getting several wizards in the same weight and stiffness. I've tried to putt with other discs because of this, but the Wizard always calls me back...
I just received my second order of 10 misprints!!! Cant wait until I get home!!! btw, Don't tell Dave but I really don't see anything wrong with the first batch I got from him, and have not been home to see the second.

Most are just misstamps, not x outs.

You never know your friends might read the stamp and think you are putting with a speed demon. :DActuall most are just off center stamps but there are quite a few that you really can't tell what went wrong.

We have been producing larger runs as of late and the last run of soft Wizards could be one of the best so far.
They are gummy on the surface yet not floppy.
You can still press down with your thumb, but I havent seen any get the dimples or impressions yet.
There is also a huge range of colors.
We finally have more mediums as well in a wide range of colors!
The best Wizards ever made are the Prototype Soft Wizards! They are the ones that have the chalky feel to them. They are a bit harder to find though.

What weight did you like the firm Chalky protos in?
Are you talking about the brick red ones or are they orange?
smurphy29
May 07 2005, 11:45 PM
David, I'll explain them the best I can. One was brick red but the others are a dull grey, green and pale yellow with a maceman stamp(I think). I recently ordered some other firm wizards that are nice but still not quite the same plastic. I hope to get down to your shop sometime and hand pick a few like the protos I have. A couple months ago George Smith showed me a wizard from the box you sent him. It was nice but I think it was medium type.

I will second that. I have a black soft proto, and it is my baby for putting.

The Soft Wizards are run in our "S" type plastic which is a high end elastomer.
All of our products are considered PRO material as we do not offer a low end plastic!
If you mean polyurethane we do Have E Wizards and Yes some our soft, but they are a bit more overstable than most runs of S no matter which flexibility they are run in.
I know we are do to run E wizards soon as we are mostly out of the higher weights!

I keep waiting for someone to make something with a really stiff flightplate but soft grippy edge. Help a turbo putter out! Soft putters are usually to soft and even more so in the TX heat, and hard ones are usually to slick to hold well. Any suggestions?

I got my Soft Wizard putter in the Mail today. I am SOOO impressed by it. Its the perfect putter I was looking for. I want to thank you guys for helping me out. I can't believe anyone still uses Aviar's after this thing is out there. I guess its just personal preference but wow this thing Rocks.

I use my soft wizzard all of the time but I still use my beat aviar when inside 35ft. Outside of that up to about 150ft I use only the wizzard. Thrown flat or with a little annie it will hold the line great. It also makes a great turbo putter for those times when your in trouble.

Glad to hear you like the disc.
The latest run of Soft Wizards have a really rubbery feel to them but the overall flexibility seems perfect for putting. I would still reccomend a medium or firm off the tee as they have a different blend that holds up to tree hits a little better.
Thanks again for the compliment on the Wizard.
Hey Dave, have you run any E-Wizards lately? Last timr i called the shop they were out. Just curious.
