I was wondering how common it was for players to use a Midrange Disc as their putter? I have almost always used a Midrange for putting and never have been able to do well with Putters. Just seem to big and bulky for me. Is there a putter out there that is more like a midrange that would help my putting?

Not uncommon for newer players but I would recommend against it as your clean misses will go too far by. The XD is technically not a putter but is close try one of those.

I've played in some VERY windy tournaments. I have been known to putt with a Roc. It's a great way to gently beat up a Roc.
Most of the time I use an Omega AP (1.3). I like the feel of the older Omega plastic. The rim isn't too big and I've stuck more cheesy putts with at particular putter than any other.

only from more than 120' out.
seriously though, i'll putt with a Drone in wind, but other than that no way. (unless i'm cleaning up a six-footer then i might use the same disc that got me there - prolly a Glide)
i dont like the feel of z plastic when putting. driving and approach, great. but i want some more tactile for putting. thats why the drone is good, but not the glide, buzz, wasp etc.
I have been using a Classic Roc to put. Before that I was using a Roc. I have an Aviar but I just can't seem to control it for some reason. Feels so big.
I have had a few people recommend the XD to me. Also I hear that a Wizard is also good for putting?

I see a lot of guys who are almost serious golfers putt with Spiders...I dunno?
But yeah, if it gets WINDY I've been known to putt with an overstable midrange. (Demon)

I used a Roc for a while. I will still use a Roc for long putts (50' and out) and very windy conditions. I played in 25-40 MPH winds on Sunday and the Super Roc was used quite often. I would suggest against using a mid on a regular basis as you will have way to many spit out/bounce outs.

it's fairly common for players to prefer shallower mid/approach discs such as the XD, Classic Roc, and Breeze.
general rule: the lower profile the disc, the faster it is.
a more mid-like approach disc may help you learn how to putt more quickly in the short run, they will blow by farther on missed putts.
if you are having trouble releasing taller putters cleanly, unless you have INCREDIBLY small hands, it is more a problem with your release than with the disc. my long run suggestion is to work in developing a clean release with standard putt & approach discs on putts within a feasible make range (within 30' or so).
Once again, Blake, you are right on! Ive also been doing your driving drills and as you suspected, i was turning my wrist over. For the putting question, if you dont consiously spring your hand off the disc right after youve applied your desired spin, the big deep edge will shank you from time to time (just a light touch WILL shank you). I still have to make sure im not lazy and occasionally (rarely now) drag a finger on the rim. I LOVE the fan grip now as ive cleaned up my act. The fan really allows you to feel the plane of the putter in relation to the earth. TRY THAT! (I must say, tho, i use a soft or supersoft wizard and it reaaly allows for a nice firm grip for fan grip. I use my hard wiz to drill myself in practice to make sure my fan is firm as if its not, it will sometimes slip a little. (esp with cold, and or wet hands). get some soft wiz, G!.
I started out using my roc, but anymore I primarily use a proline rhyno, but will still occasionally use my roc depending on how i'm feeling at the time.

I tried to find a midrange-like putter and found the Lightning Rubber Putter. It holds up well in the wind, too.
"I have had a few people recommend the XD to me. Also I hear that a Wizard is also good for putting?"
Never use the GIZARD!! :D
The wizard is a putter.. I dont 'know why someone wouldn't recommend it unless they have something against gateway.
IT's basically(in a nutshell) a shallower rimmed Aviar.. SLightly different mold, but basically the same.
I have a firm wizard that i use sometimes that i like and i heard the soft ones are amazing.
My favorit putter is still an Aviar PUtt and Aproach for spin putts(jump putts outside 40 or low ceiling) and a Classic Aviar(STiff small bead) for Push putting.

I think that was a shot at me and my ever faithful wizard which I sometimes call the Jizard. Just ask him who the best putter is in town. :D
As far as putting with a midrange, i've seen some people have some success with it on super windy days but they used it from a 40 ft. and out range. Anything closer than that and they still used their putter. Other than that everybody I have see consistantly putt with a midrange hasn't been that great a putter.
I hated every putter I ever tried. Always stuck to my middle finger. I have been using the Lightning Pro plastic Upshot 2 for the last two years. It will be a long time before I listen to another putter recommendation.

Firm wizards are nice putters in a wind situation.
I was trying to hold out for a supersoft wizard, but i couldn't wait so I picked up a soft challengers and these are nice. I am a much better putter/approacher with a soft plastic putter.

When I first started playing I putted with my spider...just used that as a midrange/putter and a banshee to drive with. I switched from that to an xd, then to a rhyno, and finally to aviar-x's. I've also switched putting styles a few times since I've gotten better though too. I'll still use the old pro line rhyno for windy days sometimes, but what I wouldn't give to be able to find a nice grippy SE rhyno still brand new.
I usually use a big bead aviar, but occasionally when its windy I will use a spider or gator. But if the putters you use feel too fat try using a rhyno, with the thumb track it doesn't feel as fat.

I like a Classic Roc for longer putts, outside of 25' to 30'. The shallow rim allows the disc to come out of the hand more cleanly.
spider for 75-100' then switch to a buzz for anything above 100' I dont call it an upshot cause it usually goes in. ;)
I agree with Blake_T's post.
The problem is that thinner discs are easier to putt with, but fatter discs putt better. Aviar/Magnet thickness is generally considered to be the best compromise.
I tried to find a midrange-like putter and found the Lightning Rubber Putter. It holds up well in the wind, too.
Alright! ... another Rubber Putter fan! They just seem to come out of the hand cleaner than most putters. I also have no problem getting controlled distance out of them for long approaches and tee shots on short holes. I haven't really thrown a 'midrange' during a round since I switched back to the Rubber Putter. I prefer the older style Rubber Putter ... the newer ones I ordered recently seem to have a deeper feel to them - not as clean of a release.
That being said, the XD is also a solid choice for a shallow putter.

Unless you're not. Which is it?
As far as where you expect to see me, one is never in the People's(not) Republic and another would be wherever I care to post. :)
