I know most of you hate dragons, so no need to post about how much they suck. This question is for people who use them.
I have a yellow dragon, which the plastic is hard and almost waxy. But then I have another one which is red and soft almost like pro plastic.
The two discs are different, the hard yellow one is an amazing roller. It is my main disc for anhyzers and rollers. However the softer red one flies different and isn't as useful.
What's the difference? How can I find more of the hard ones?

Try Charis. Think that's the name. They sell both yellow and red Dragon's. I never threw one, got a few for the collection.
dragons are awsome for thumbers into the headwind. try that out sometime i think youll like it.. the red one anyways
Look closely at the shape of the flight plates. Is the Yellow one more worn? It will flip to roll faster. The plastic on my red is more like the soft pro, and the plastic on my white (yes, I said white) is waxy and stiffer. Whats the prob with the one, flightwise? Does it fold when it hits ground or what? The dragon (esp worn) is THE NUMBER ONE DISC to put in the hands of first timers esp. women). I must admit, tho, I only use it in water and sometimes when im stuck in the shule with limited arm movement.
The yellow one is worn for sure. But it's also a different plastic, like your white one, waxy and stiff. I wanted a replacement for when it eventually floats away and I roll it a lot. Was disapointed to discover the red dragon I bought was different plastic so obviously doesn't do the same thing.
The stamp is the same, so how do you know which type your getting?
Hmm,
been thinking about what u said and i think the newest ones ive seen were waxy, but didnt think to flex them. The white IS stiffer and do u find it not so flippy as your red? What do u like about it? Thats the thing i dont like about my red now that its worn, its mega flippy. Whats so bad about your red's rolling ability? Seems only way to pick them up and flex them in hand before u buy em.
Westa,
Do u get a double barrel roll with it or what? Heard it works but havent tried as i hurt my tommy and now its pi$$ed at me (ouch, my sidearm hurts too!)
yeah it does the barrel roll and then flys normal, but it usually works best into a headwind, it doesnt go super far like the Epic or anything but it gets the job done and i do it more just for fun in the field or beach not for a real shot on the course.
I have a yellow one that feels very similiar to my SE Rhyno, I don't use it because it feels to soft.
The stiff waxy yellow one that I have, all I need to do is throw it flat, and it's totally flippy, always lands on it's edge and rolls. That's what I love about it, I can throw it normally (flat) and it's an amazing turnover/roller. The red softer one just doesn't do this. Not to say it's not capable, but I love the fact that I can throw the yellow one normally and get that behavior instead of having to do some funky throw to get the anyzher/roll.
Guess I'll just have to keep my eyes open for them at tourneys.
I still find it odd that the same mold appears to have been made with two different plastics.
Not unusual at all, Innova is ALWAYS innovating (ok, well trying new stuff) Are u sure the stiff one doesnt have a domier flight plate, then? This would more than likely be from diff plastic cooling differently, not a different mold.

Is one heavy? I seem to recall, but I'm not sure, that they ran some heavy ones once. Maybe you have a heavy and a regular?

All 150's from what I recall. Thank god they float or they would have hardly any redeeming value in them at all.

I have one of those mistakes it is 174 misstamped as a Valk and then misstamped as a 150 Dragon.
Personnaly I have never felt a grippier plastic than the heavy Dragon plastic unlike anything I have seen before. I asked Dave about it when I got it he told me they were protos that made it out of the shop.
I got it in 02'
According to Dave, the stiffer Dragons are the first run ones, and were very understable, so in consequent runs they changed the plastic mix so that they are stable (at least when new).
So.... Who's got my first run dragon?

So would a heavy (>150g) Dragon be PDGA legal?
So would a heavy (>150g) Dragon be PDGA legal?
Yes, up to 174.3g.
Sounds like the heavy dragon is just a misstamped Valk, and I can't really see it being illegal to have a misprint. Just don't use it around the water and expect it to float!

I believe it is mandated that a minimum # of discs are to be made available to the public for 'legalization'...so if these heavy Dragon's were a fluke~run...? Not that I give a hoot or anything...! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I don't believe the production quantity standard pertains to weight mix. So you could have 2000, 150 class Dragons and produce only 5 heavy ones that would be legal. Doesn't seem fair but I think it meets the production guideline.
