I was wondering if anyone washes their disc with soap and water? I decided to do this the other night just to get all the mud and dirt off the disc.

Does this help the flightpath of the disc? Does this hurt the disc in any way?

No! The caked on mud helps the discs magnitze to the baskets. Get them as muddy as possible, it helps with grip. Candy is also easier to throw when it is wet, and DX/D plastic is best once smacked into a tree. :D

Hahaha glad I got a laugh out of you guys. I was just wondering if Scalding hot water would warp the disc or change the pattern of the disc.

Apr 12 2005, 04:00 PM
No, but hot water can sometimes take the foil stamps off innova champion discs.

Apr 12 2005, 04:04 PM
Just don't put them in the dishwasher.

Na Neo, just playin around. I actually have a pre tourney ritual of cleaning my discs with soap and water. I don't like going to a tournament with dirty discs. Who ever says disc golf is not a superstitious sport.

BTW, I took the stamps off of all my discs by putting them in the disc washer with the dishes. No heated dry, the bleach in the soap faded all the stamps. And after repeated washings, my first DX aviar became smooth and shiny and now looks like a SE Aviar.

Apr 12 2005, 04:47 PM
I think I may just have to try that to remove the stamp on a disc or 2 and clean them at the same time (swamp mud from 2 months back doesn't come off very well)

I played with a guy who removed his stamps in order for his competitors not to be able to know what he was throwing, it was pretty hillarious. He didn't want me to know he was throwing a monster on every hole, too bad he was actually pretty good and beat me.

Apr 12 2005, 05:35 PM
I just like my discs to look "ugly" i've got one disc that the stamp is only in places, most of it's taken off

I like letting people know what I am throwing, especially when they have to throw a driver and I pull out a Buzzz or a Wasp. The look on their face is priceless, especially when they say "is that a Buzzz?" also, it zaps their confidence and gives it to me.

Last year I threw my glo t-bird in a river. :mad:The water was high and fast so I gave up on it. A month later I found it. When I pulled my precious T-Bird from it's watery grave it had a green scum on it. I had to scrub the shite out of it w/ soapy water and it now has no stamp, but it flies real fine.

you and discgolfpimp must be real good friends. all we ever hear is how far you can throw and how awesome discraft is. i'd really like to learn your "confidence zapping" technique, it sounds like something that could nicely complement my game.
i like to remove stamps. discs look cooler and are more fun to throw when they're personalized.

I also like to Watch people when they are throwing drivers and i Whip out my..... BUZZZ and park the hole.. Those things are sick and go for days...
Too bad i can only throw drivers about 40feet further than my mids on average.. and my putters about 40shorter than my mids..

BTW.. to stay on topic... I wash my disc.. usually just water.. never tried soap and water.. I tried a thing called Tree REpellant disc clenaer becuase i was testing it for this guy.. It smelled like window cleaner but it worked for the most part at cleaning the Champion plastic..

I like seeing someone throw a hole good with a mid, then see the other guys try it too b/c they think they have to, and then they mess it up. Then I step up and throw a huge hyzer with a driver and park it. Moral....

Throw the shot thats for YOU...if everyones throwing putters, but you think a driver is best for you, go ahead. As long as you aren't throwing drivers on 200' wide open holes, theres no shame on throwing one on a 300' hole with a difned fairway...so long as it gets the job done.

I hand wash with a little powder Comet and warm water, it brightens up all my white KC/DX discs. For Champion plastic just water.
Cheers,

Tree Repellant-that's good stuff. Did it repel the trees pretty well? Kind of like Batman's Shark Repellant?

Too much soaking time in hot water has made many of my used/beat-in discs more overstable in the past.

Makes for a surprise /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif come tourney day when the disc-washing occurs the night before...

This was in the days prior to candy plastic, so maybe things have changed...

****, hostile crowd...
I like throwing putters when other people are throwing drivers : p. Doesn't do much good when I end up 25 ft away from the basket and someone else ends up parked underneath it though...

So, I thought it was said in an earlier thread that dishwashers were fine for cleaning discs as long as you put it on a certain setting, like no heated dry or something? Another thing that removes stamps is acetone (found in most nail polish removers) for those who want them gone. I removed everything but the word "valkrye" on one of my discs, pretty cool.

When a disc goes into poison ivy, I wash the edge all the way to the edge of the stamp with rubbing alcohol. Then rinse and soap and water the rest. This is known to disolve the Urushil oil. Dont get it on the stamps, tho or its bye bye stamp. If your alergic to ivy, wash your hands with alcohol after too. The oil will float on the top of the water in the sink. and will coat your arms. NEVER take a bath to wash off Ivy for this same reason. You could end up w/it allover u!

Clean discs are nice, but there's something wrong with taking a bubble bath with them. :D

I think I will clean and take the stamp off of every disc in my bag before my tournament on sunday. Does anyone have an extra Revolution frame. My shattered when i was in my car accident yesterday so i need to get a new one

Apr 13 2005, 05:43 PM
that's funny - I have a friend who is real allergic to poison ivy, every time he throws a disc in it he picks it up only touching the part of the disc that isn't touching the poison ivy and puts it in his bag separated from his other discs and never throws it the rest of the round. By the end of a round he has been down to just his putter. It helps me cause its the only way I can beat him.

Those revolution frames are junk, mine broke as well so I just don't use one, it works fine if not better than the frame. Pimp throws some innova, he likes Cheetahs and scorpions. :o

I know a guy whose Revo frame broke, and before he had owned a Gateway Tour Bag, the frame for that fits in the Revo, and according to him, it is more durable and works better.

Pimp, were you distracted by the "ladies of the night" out there on Michigan Ave when you got into your accident? I have told you they were not worth the 5 spot. ;)

My revolution frame is quite fragile too, biggest problem is with the screws chewing apart the wood poles, so their holes get larger and looser and the entire frame is no longer sturdy.

coupla things:

a... when i throw a disc into poison ivy, if its a new mold, i retrieve it very carefully then offer to let my competition throw it a few times

b... i love to get the box and throw lefthanded and watch everyone else get not a whole of info from my throw. sometimes they try to throw lefthanded also. but that almost never works.

c... dirty_d, just because you wash your discs nightly does not mean they are new. making your date take a shower first does not make her a virgin. she's still a dirty ol' turnover floozy, even if her skin appears to be clean.
