Under the influence of Innova's marketing in the new Disc Golf magazine, I had to take one of these for a spin yesterday. The 5 rating in glide really peaked my interest in my search for a disc that will go 5 feet further than my current distance drivers.

I tested a 175g. Several characteristics stuck out to me as unique about this disc. When thrown flat and hard the disc just went straight for a really long time and then faded modestly, yet predictably. The disc looked in flight like it was going to turn over, but never did. All of my throws like this were in the 400'-430' range. Good effortless distance, yet nothing to special compared to other discs. Next I tried to do a little hyzer flip, and to my surprise the disc would not flip up flat, but instead held the hyzer line all the way. Now if this happened with one of my other drivers (Orc, Crush, Flash, CFR Starfire, Tsunami, Flick) I would be faced with a serious sacrafice distance-wise, but the Pro Starfire still went over the 400' mark for me in this manner. It definetely has something to do with the glide. I think this disc has serious potential on the anyzer line due to its glide and stability. I only got to throw one shot like this, and it was huge even though I was getting fatigued. One last interesting note...this disc's profile from the side looks an aweful lot like the pictures I've seen of the Quarter K....

Those are some excellent observations, thanks for posting them.

But FYI, there are already a few existing threads on the Pro Starfire that could have been found by using the Search function:

I tried using the search function and nothing of relevence popped up. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.... I typed in pro starfire. Oh well. Anyone else messing around with these?

I love the Ch. Orcs, and am starting to really like the Pro Orcs I have (second run). I picked up a Pro Starfire recently, but I haven't had a chance to test it yet because I want to test fly it in an open field before subjecting it to possible tree collisions.

How would you compare the Pro Orc to the Pro Starfire discspeed?

[thread drift warning]

As a side note, my blue Ch. Orc is the most stable, my yellow in between, and my white the flippiest. Anyone note any patterns in terms of the various colors for Ch. Orcs?

I am truly impressed with the Pro Starfire. Long and straight. This disc is easily the longest disc in my bag right now.

Have you thrown Pro Orcs? If so, how would you compare & contrast the two?

I had similar results as you did, discspeed...but with less distance. ;) I'm looking forward to really getting the hang of it. I think that it will be especally good for low ceiling shots and obviously distance.

the pro starfire is faster, straighter, longer, and more stable than the pro orc.

IMO, the Pro Starfire is more High-Speed stable than a Pro Orc, but everything else is about the same, so into the wind it's much better (wrt PLOrc) but I get more distance with a wind at my back, with the Pro Orcs

I'd say it's most similar to a first run Champ Orc (high speed stable, low speed medium overstable, good glide, and FAST) :D

mine is 172, and it's been nothing but great thusfar. It's one of the very few discs that I can throw a decent s curve with, and my distance has improved greatly with it as well.

I'm quite impressed with my new white 168g Pro SF...great distance & glide, and a straight, stable flight pattern. I had no luck with it into any 15+mph headwinds.
The plastic has a great feel and the disc is inspiring 'in the hand'.
I've not owned or even thrown a CFR SF, but I would compare this to a longer, faster 10x KC T'Bird flightwise.

I agree with Jaymo. It's as fast as anything I've thrown, but pretty darn stable too. I need to get a couple more and work one in for the huge open anny. It doesn't flip as bad as some of the other pro discs do. Great disc to get more of.

Jeterdawg is correct, run out and pick up this disc!! I've picked up about 30-40 ft of distance, I can now reach hole #18 (780') at Tinicum in 2 shots and I'm old (43). Thanks Dave :D

Played a round with my new starfire and found that it is very fast, straight and glidey. Most importantly, it withstood full-on tree impacts extremely well. Having tacoed many of the first run Pro Ts with pretty minor impacts, I'd give Innova's Pro Line plastic the "Most Improved" award. :DI'd say that its probably easier to throw than a TB -- you don't have to throw it too hard for it to fly well, which (for me) translates to better control. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

These discs REALLY FLY! I love them. This past weekend I just got a 5 on a 200 ft hole, and thought I was out of the tourney since I was 7 strokes back with 9 holes to go and coming up to a hole that was nearly 500ft. Pulled out the Pro Starfire and pimped it about 12ft from the pin for a duece. That duece pumped me up and I ended up coming back to win from 7 strokes down. I LOVE THE PRO STARFIRE! :D

Tese discs are not quite like a long teebird (for me) they definitely have some high speed turn, It's less than most new high speed drivers, and if thrown hyzer, it wont flip all that much. But it's still not completely teebird like. :D

I like them a lot, I seem to be throwing them consistanly as far as I was throwning a champion orc's last fall, and this the be begining of the season , Sweet. They seem to glide and just float with speed.

I am throwning them at least 425'-450'

I'm going to agree with the comparison to the 10x teebirds. Those are the primary discs in my bag, with valks being used for distance. I got one of the pro starfires, and they truly fly like a longer, faster 10x. By far the best distance driver I've thrown. It also does massive 350 ft. turnovers when thrown sidearm with some torque action. I love this thing, and have a feeling my valks will be finding there way into my closet.
