I'm tempted to pick up one of these, but they say 'multi purpose driver'...my old DX stingray says 'long range driver'
is there any difference in the two?

shoulnd't be any difference.. but i suggest that you pick it up since they dont' make stingrays in the champion plastic anymore.

Yeah. definately pick one up becuase they are going to be OOP unless they can find a way to make the stingrays consistently in champ.

you can edit the topic title :)
The Champ Stingrays are not as understable as you may think they are.

There are also two good threads already on the Champion Stingray, found by using the 'Search' Function:

When your old DX Stingray came out, it was the shiz-not and was state-of-the-art in Long Range driver-ness.
They ain't that long these days, so it makes sense to call it something else. :)
i heard champion stingrays have been discontinued due to molding problems. Oh well :D

I think there are still some available (at least in our local pro shop). If not, for those looking, I donated a couple to John Gimp Edwards that he may still have.
