My home course is Warrior's Path. I have heard rumors that it is one of the 3rd toughest courses in the East. I was wondering how this course stacked up against other courses in the Eastern United States. I really love this course. It is mainly very deep woods course with a few open holes but mostly woods.

It has 24 holes and Mach 2/3 baskets. Its in a state park so theres tons to do. Long concrete tee pads and very well taken care of. There are some pretty long holes on the course.

Whats others opinions of this course?

Warrior's Path may be in the top 3 in beauty in the East, but certainly not in the top 3 in toughness. Bad rumor. Especially with the extra 3 holes it is an awesome course. With its very wide variety of holes and great use of the terrain, it makes you throw almost every shot in your bag. It is one of my all time favorites!

The PDGA Course Statistics (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/course_ratings_by_course.php?RatingCourseID=175) for this course show that it has an SSA in the low 50s for 20-hole layouts and low 60s for 24-hole layouts. That rumour is outlandish, and in fact, these statistics show that it could probably be considered one of easiest tournament courses on the East Coast!

However I have also heard the course mentioned by many people as one of the most scenic in that region of the country. I would definitely stop to try it out if I was ever in the neighborhood.

In my personal top 10 all around courses weighing in heavily on the scenic places to play side. While you are in the area Jeff ya gotta holler at John "Fossil" Whinery at Fossil Hill DGC. Gorgeous, challenging mixed cow pasture and woods course. Also in my personal top 10 all around courses and they are only 15-20 miles apart. :D

Maybe that was it they are one of the Top 3 Favorite courses on the East coast. Maybe in Scenery or something?

The course at Warriors has been around for a long time(something like since the late 70's) I think for a long time it was considered a upper tier course back in the day however now its much lower. It offers a lot of different types of throws and is very nicely taken care of. There has been some hole layout changes in the past few years that has made the course more challenging for sure. As an AM I was used to throwing a couple of strokes under with the occasion 4 to 5 under, now I'm doing good to see a couple over to even.

I recommend anyone in the area check it out you won't be disappointed.

Ha Neowind,
I know this is an older Post but I am new to Boards here.
Couldn't help but to reply to this.
In all due respect Neowind, Warriors Path is not even toughest Course in TN. let alone the entire East.

That distintion would belong to Cedar Hill Park in Nashville from the Long Placements...........
I am sure few who have played both would dispute this.

Welcome to the PDGA Message Board, DISCnDISCiple. If you read the entire thread, you will see that Neowind's question was addressed.

FWIW
Most of Warrior's was designed by Ed Headrick around 1980 when he also designed the courses at Meeman-Shelby State Park near Memphis and Cedars of Lebanon State Park (east of Nashville).
The premier discs in early 80's were Whamo Midnight Flyer 70 & 71 molds. At least until they hit a tree or two & shattered, especially the pink 70 molds.
When the Super Puppy came out it revolutionized distance & putting. Then of course Innova (Champion Discs at the time) came out with the eagle.......... that really lowered scores.
Warrior's was great at the time, but as long time park manager Ernie Marshall refered to it a few years ago in a discussion about the degradation of the facility "The course has been loved to death!"
And that was before the pine borer beetles attacked.
The reconfiguration after losing hole one a couple of years ago to a handicapped trail certainly added some much needed length on a couple of holes, as did the expansion across the road in the late 80's.
For a change you can play 15 of the original holes with some lid from wally world. That would replicate the original challenge.
My first rounds there in 1983 were with 3 Whamo "World Class Frisbee" discs (two of which I still have). A yellow 119gm, blue 141gm & red 165gm. And there were more trees then (but shorter). When you could break 54 on the original 18 with that equipment, you were considered a pro.
Most of the Pole Holes are actually Mach 1 with inner chains added later. I know because I bought the chains at a tournament at Johnny Sias 'Lucky 8" course in West Virginia in about 1987 and installed them.
