I played this property yesterday.
O MY!!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
This could really be something. Three beautiful water shots with elevation! As we were going back to throw the long water shot again, there were six deer or so munching in a fairway that took no notice of us! We almost could drive up and pet them.
This place is ready for the BIG TIME!!!!! I just hope the course that goes in is as good as what I saw.
This could be one of the best courses in Illinois...out of all of them.
Good luck, I hope to play some sweet holes when I get back from KY.
Grand opening is this Saturday, April 2nd! I'm not sure if they are doing a special rate for the grand opening but the weekend special is $12 for a walking round after 2pm, $15 before 2pm. Add $3 for a cart! There are weekday walking rates for $9 after 2pm. At just 50 cents a hole, you can't beat it! Even the most expensive round on the weekend is a better value than a move, IMHO!!
Can't wait to check it out!!! Hopefully saturday!! :D

I just got an update on the install, and it sounds like it should be sick. Hole #16 is going to be the bomb. Not only a great picturesque drive but also a tight green with a cart path in front and river behind.
Almost wish I wasn't gong to miss it.
NOT!!! :p
We finished the design today. Looks like the course will play 10,200 feet.

Just thought I'd mention it again. Disc golf in Chicago this Saturday!!!!!
Edgebrook Golf Course is conveniently located within 2 miles of Interstate 94. Exit I94 at Touhy Ave. West and turn left at N. Central Ave/Carpenter Rd. The course is 1.5 miles down on the right side of the road. The address is 6100 N. Central Avenue, Chicago, Illinois.
You can also take Interstate 90 to exit 82A which is Nagel. Turn left on Nagel and then a right on Bryn Mawr. Turn left on N. Central Ave. The course will be on the left just after crossing the Chicago River.
Is there going to be any kind of organized event for the grand opening? Or just a come out and play day? Either way I plan on coming saturday!!! :D

Grand opening looks to be at noon. I'm sure we'll have enough people there to organize some form of gambling.

I had fun at the Grand Opening even if I got whupped by a girl! If you are following the Touhey directions, Carpenter is also called Niles Center Road. There are two signs at the corner of Touhey and Carpenter in different locations so if you don't know both names it can be confusing.
This is a great course for working on your distance off the tee and on fairway second throws. There is a clubhouse there that serves snacks and beverages, and it has flush toilets. Check for information on rates. The twilight rates start around 2:00 p.m.
All the amateur Fly 18 pads are in now...thanks Reese!
I'm looking at getting a tag round or a casual round going at Edgebrook this Saturday. Let me know if you want to join me. jonbrakel@comcast.net
Saturday is predicted to be sunny, high of 67 degrees. Be there at 10am if you want to play a round with us. E-mail me at jonbrakel@comcast.net if you want to confirm.
Are there any plans to add this to the course directory?
would be great for those who havent yet been to the course...

I'm sort of curious to know what the distance is from the actual tee-BOXES on all 18. I went out yesterday and threw a round completely from them. It seemed that more people took us seriously as it was rather crowded. A 6 OVER!! Even with a 1 , 2 :(, 3 :oputt on 16 from 25' for a 5. I had a blast and gained valuable distance and confidence. Next time that two down from Reese (?) from the whimpy Pro's is going DOWN! ;)

I plan on playing the regular tee boxes for all the holes when I play with my Dad later in the year out there. My Dad's a ball golfer so I think it will play a lot better if we use the same tees. There's no way I'm shooting +6 though. The best I've shot from the pro tees is +9 and the tee boxes are going to add a few onto that!

Yes they will! There were times that my first drive was just short of or close to the Pro pad. I plan on going out with my dad (ball golfer) and playing as well. But, I think I need to spot him strokes even from the boxes to be competitive. Under from the Pro's is well within my reach.
Sorry Reese, then the -5 is going DOWN!! :D
Have we put signs up at the other CPD courses? Like, "Try disc golf at Edgebrook" or something? I feel there are a lot of DG'rs in Chicago that haven't gotten the word yet.
I'm going to start putting up flyers after this weekend and will get a photo course survey on-line as soon as the trees fill out with leaves.

When will Edgebrook be added to the course directory.
When will Edgebrook be added to the course directory.
Reese said that he was going to do it, but if he hasn't done it by next week I will wield my SC powers and do it myself.

Reese,
What's up with pulling 9 baskets from Edgebrook to put them in at the other 9 hole course south of Chicago? That has to be one of the stupidest things i've ever heard of. Did you realize there is the Chicago Disc Golf Championship at Edgebrook on the 24th?
I just got off the phone with Edgebrook and they had no idea when the baskets were going to be back in the ground. I heard the rumor you were pulling 9 baskets so i'm glad I called before I went out there. I feel sorry for the people that go out there and have no idea they are gone.
You've managed to [I'm a potty-mouth!] off basically every club member that has came into contact with you when this installation of Edgebrook took place. I heard you were bad mouthing the FREE labor you received at Edgebrook this weekend during the installation of the new 9 hole course.
What a great businessman you are & a great decision this was.

my limited experience with Reese consists of showing up for his grand opening at Edgebrook and having to listen to all the horror stories from people who volunteered their time to totally install his course for him when he was completely unprepared.
Then he decides to ditch his original group he was playing with and come join my group after Hole 1. Immediately we had to sit around and wait for Reese The Burnout to sit around and smoke his weed. Way to make an impression Reese! You were definitely NOT a welcome addition to our group. Also, your baskets still suck ALOT! (at least when they are actually in the ground).

Although I have not played Edgebrook yet, I have heard nothing but good things about it, mainly from DISContinuum members. But now all is bad?
I was looking forward to playing this touted course, but not without baskets.

Edgebrook is fun. Go with a friend and share a cart when the baskets are back in. You can share a libation when you are beyond the sight of the clubhouse.
Reese can be a pill sometimes. Pulling half the baskets from the course one week before an event he knew about so he can open a nine-holer seems dumb from the perspective of pretty much everyone but Reese, I guess.
Last I heard from Jon, the people who are signed up to play the Edgebrook should stay tuned for a change in venue.

There is nothing wrong with the course. I actually went out there today to check it out. It was fun but too bad all the baskets weren't in.
This is about the way the designer treats people. A half dozen DISContinuum members pretty much installed the entire course without the help of Reese. Every member was pretty [I'm a potty-mouth!] off in the way they were treated & how disorganized he is. It has been kept under wraps until this point. This weekend Reese was shooting his mouth off to people helping at the new course south of Chicago badmouthing the help at Edgebrook. One of those helpers was a club member that was at Edgebrook as well.
Reese is not very smart. This decision to pull baskets to install at another course is just stupid. A couple of kids were playing behind us & juse left once they saw the baskets weren't in.
I hear tons of talk about Reese on the message board. It's time for this example to be shared with everyone.

Doh! There are quite a few of us who aren't at all taken aback by the sort of behavior this thread now details. Did you think so many folks formed strong opinions about F18 just out of the blue? No, this guy has acted this way towards others for years and isn't likely to change his tune anytime soon. Did you get an expletive laced PM yet? (Decorum requires that I not post such communications, but trust me, he sends off nasty notes at the drop of a hat). That usually follows any criticism of the man or his "dream."
Oh well.

I have not got a nasty PM yet. I'm waiting. He's probably here in Chicago running around scrambling trying to get something completed that he was not prepared for.
He wonders why people don't answer the phone when he calls. :)
