For those of you that do not know Daryl Johnson (OKC LEGEND and Driving Force) Has shattered his hip. Daryl was helping a neighbor trim some trees and was hit by a tree and thrown from a ladder. He is currently at Baptist Hospital in OKC Room 684. He plans to move to University Med Center on Tuesday. There are only 2 surgeons in Oklahoma that perform the procedure he is needing to try to reconstruct his hip. If that does not work he will have to have an artificial hip implanted. Either way it will be months in the hospital, followed by months of rehab. :(
Please keep Daryl and his family in your thoughts and prayers during what we all know will be a very tough time.

Sorry to hear the news brother. You were the light that help me into the game of Discgolf. You guided many into the game of discgolf.
You created a great course,Dolese that now is used by so many new players and kids( the future disgolfers ).
Brother Darly created and ran the greatest club in OKC that grew as each year past until he steped down.
Now its our turn to help our father Daryl Johnson . Lets all pray for a fast and successful recovery. The power of God is almighty and the powere of us all is mighty. Together and team efforts we all can get Daryl through this ...
Father Daryl Johnson, I wish and pray for you for a speedy recovery

Just so any of you that don't know or for those of you who might have heard of Daryl, he is the greatest amassador disc golf could have!!!! Daryl is also one of the greatest people anyone could have around period!!! I would venture to say that even in this, there will still be a smile on his face and encouraging words for all those he comes in contact with.

Thanks for getting this started Joe..I didn't have time at work.
Daryl is the reason I play golf the way I do. It is always about fun and friends first, showing a new golfer around and a postive influence on the course.
I also want to Thank Baldie for giving me a quick call as soon as he heard what had happened. I talked to DJ for about 10 minutes last night and he was in about as good of sprits as he could be. They may even need to take him to DFW to get his surgery done.
I wish you a speedy recovery my friend and can't wait to walk/shoot Dolese with you again in the soon future.
You will be missed on the greens, but in all of our hearts!

I hope you recover soon Daryl. I don't know you very well but have heard only great things about you. I did play a round with you at Dolese a couple of years ago and enjoyed your company. I always enjoy playing your course (Dolese).
Terrill and I just returned home from a visit to the hospital to see Daryl.
Daryl has been moved to OU Medical Center, Everett Tower, 10th Floor, Room 110 (it actually says 10110) on the door.
We only was able to see Daryl for a brief moment as he was being taken down for a cat scan.
We did stay and visit with Barb (his wife). Barb says he is in good spirits and is not in much pain at this time. He is only in pain when he tries to move. They are to meet with the doctor tomorrow to schedule the surgery.
Once the surgery has been scheduled Daryl will be totally out of it for up to two weeks. Barb asked for no visitors after the surgery as Daryl will not be aware of who or what is going on. Barb will update us when Daryl will see visitors. Cards and letters and your continued support on the discussion board is greatly appreciated.
Although Daryl does not have access to a computer at this time, these messages are being printed for him to read at the hospital.
We will continue to keep you posted.
We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers, DJ.

I just talk with DJ and he told the nurse he did a full gainor with a double twist before he realized there was no water in the pool....she was buying it until she heard the laughter....still in great spirits.
Surgery is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday March 22. He told me he WAS going to be out trying to play again by October!!! That is a quick recovery!!! Hip is broken in 3 places and they will put it back together with pins and plates.
We will keep the prayers going, not only for the family, but for the Doctors and Nurses that will be doing the work.
BTW, Here's the real story about what happened... he jumped off a ladder with a chainsaw in hand trying to cut down a branch that snagged his disc and....................or not!!

I just got off the phone with DJs wife. She says they will operate tommorrow and he will be in the hospital for 10 days (knowing Daryl he will whittle that to 5 or 6) Then he will go home for rehab. They anticipate he will have a long rehab since they are trying to save his hip, rather than "throw in a plasti one" He is in good spirits but a bunch of pain from being moved yesterday. :( He is geting your posts read to him by his wife and friends so keep em coming. The call ended with a typical DJ analysis... Barb said "We will be at the Friz, He will just need a cane!" :D:D:D

Daryl, get well and stay strong, bro. You're a good man.
Stay away from Murphy though. He tried to break my hip once by talking me into a drunken foot race. I'm sure there's some security camera footage to prove it...somewhere. ;)
If only that Hooters would've served something other than 3.2 beer, that whole ugly incident may have been avoided. :)
Get well soon man.
Terrill and I visited Daryl last night.
His surgery will take place today at Noon. He will be in surgery for 4-6 hours. They will cut him from the front and may also have to cut him from the back in order to get him fixed up.
Let's continue to keep Daryl in our thoughts and prayers.

Just got off the phone with Barbie(Daryls good side). Its good news and spread the news. Daryl surgery went wonderful. Doc was thinking it would take 4 to 6 hours. It only took 3 hours and did not need to put a stainless steel plate attached to his hip. Doc only had to put screws attaching the broken parts among his outter hip bone that had the fractures. Barb said hes going to be out for a couple of days and dont be calling him until Friday afternoon at the earliest. Doc was really impressed by his health and should have a speedy recovery.....................
Keep on the posting and Monday when Barb and I return back from ground work at Duncan , we'll bring the update posts to Daryl
Thanks for your support to Father Daryl Johnson. Keep those prayers going

Pablo
Mar 29 2005, 01:58 PM
That is correct, sir, I did take the bonsai up there last night, and some more books as well. Daryl says he should be out of the "cell" in a week and a half to two weeks, then will finish his recovery in the comfort of his own abode. I know he's looking forward to getting out of the direct care of a doctor, and cannot blame him for that. Also, wanted to mention I went up last week to visit Daryl and Barb, the evening before the surgery. Daryl was having a rough time of it, so I left his room after saying 'hello' then spent the next hour and a half speaking with Dale Johnson, Daryl's dad. Man, what a great guy....what a great family. After meeting his father I can honestly see where and from whom Daryl gets his great personality, his compassion for others, his wit, his intelligence...man, I could go on and on. I haven't met a Johnson yet that I didn't like! No, wait...that sounds bad. Lemme rephrase--every member of Daryl's family I've come into contact with has been gracious, kind, caring, and appreciative of the attention he's received from his friends in the disc golf community. If you haven't yet had the opportunity to express to Daryl your thanks for the work he's done in this town, for this community, please do so, either by visiting him or via this board. I think a lot of the time people mention to him they love his golf course, but there's so much more Daryl has done for disc golf in OKC, and disc golf in general. In time of need, I have no doubt Daryl would be there for each of us. Please do what you can to let him know you'll be there for him as well.

I want to thank everyone for all the well wishin and support. It was very traumatic to have my life taken from me and to be under the "care" of a doctor, my second fear next to jail. I am a lucky man to have a good, loving woman to care for me at this time of total disability. All the love from my disc golf friends is overwhelming and it gives me incentive to remain a part of that wonderful fellowship. I want to thank Gregg Lynn for calling every day and being a mother hen. Adam Murphy for defining unconditional friendship. Paul DeJulius for sharing and caring. Joe Rotan for all the love. Thanks to Terrill and Barb Paske, Cameron K and Jack L, Cameron Swartz and Mike Holden, Tom and Dee Lowry, John Green, Wayne Forest, and all the other disc golfers that have well wished me a speedy recovery.
