I'm sure everyone on this board is smart enough not to fall for this but there is a seller "discnallday" that is claiming regular discs are rare. He's got a Champion Banshee he says is rare.

Wording is everything and if you are a buyer who does not know the difference then it sounds like a great deal and a great disc.
Marketing is a great thing for some. Or maybe there rare to him.

This probably would have been more appropriate on the "EBay alert thread...a DG public service" thread, no?

Well if he only has 1 or 2 then it could be rare to hime
Then again, some people are mentally handicapped
Yeah you're right, I don't know what I was thinking, I guess I thought it was worth a laugh. This guy was able to get over $15 for a DX Gremlin yesterday. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7140946168&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT I Thought that was pretty amazing. I still had several on my store shelf for $8.00, but I yanked them so maybe I can make some money next winter to help keep my business afloat.
gremlins have been outta production for a while and are a really desirable disc. glad i have a brand new champion stored back :D
I didn't realize DX Gremlins are that desireable. I know the Pro-line ones are but the DX ones I have at my store have only collected dust for 2 years, I think I have sold 2 at my store and one on E-bay. It must be a local thing, that's why I'm gonna hold on to them and sell them on E-bay someday.

Really? What is especially desirable about this disc? Accuracy? Floats in water? It can't be noted for its distance, can it?
The Gremlin is the most accurate mid-range for me but that's not true for everybody.

Also how many times do you see CE as a discs description?? that is champion!!! I guess misleading buyers is a good marketing strategy, however unethical!!!
What does it matter? If he's selling Champion discs for $6, what's the problem? Anyone who knows anything about disc golf knows what this disc really is, and people who don't know anything about disc golf don't buy discs on eBay.

I like the auctions that read
"170g innova puma NOT 2001 CE Roc or SE Valk"

or roc like!!
people who don't know anything about disc golf don't buy discs on eBay.
well that's one of the silliest things i've read on here all day. have you seen some of the selling prices on ebay? i would imagine that a good percentage of the people that buy discs on ebay are just that, people who don't know anything about disc golf. they're the ones that keep the system going.

Especially if they don't have a local place to buy discs from, ebay may be their choice over the onlune retailers. Or they don't know about all the online stores
Well for me, I bought discs locally and from other online vendors before I ever thought about looking for discs on eBay.

I buy and sell on Ebay frequently.I dont understand the problem here. Are you buying products that have misleading discriptions? Obviously you seem smart enough not to fall into that trap? A disc is worth what someone will pay for it.If your a person that buys and sells on Ebay and sells a misleading product than karma will eventually catch up to you, and sadly it will only be for a few dollars.Long and short, its worth that much to somebody.
I have used local, internet and ebay. I only use ebay for stuff that I cannot find at the other 2. However the prices do get a little ridiculous sometimes. I have been trying to get Ching Snipers and Stingers, since they no longer mold them. I also found a sweet Black Cherry Candy Teebird 172, but it got up over $30 bucks and I wasn't going there.
Ebay is a perfect case study in a free market economy. Examples of supply and demand are clearly defined, take for instance the 2001 CE Roc. $300 for 1 disc! But it is like what Chase said, something is only worth what other people will pay for it. I have a INNcolor Beast from a Doubles Championship as part of a tournament package, worthless on Ebay, but invaluable to me, because it was my first cashing tournament.
When it comes to "karma" in an economy like Ebay, word travels fast. Ebay has a ratings system that seems very effiecient. And most of the time, the people selling on Ebay are not looking to swindle others out of their money. They are just trying to get rid of stuff they do not want, or make a living (for the full-time Ebay sellers). Eventually if someone gets a reputation for ripping someone off, then they will not be able to sell anything to anyone because no one will buy it.
Of course, Marketing always boarders the definition of ethics. Do you decieve your customers? Do you tell them up front about the flaws in the product?
Time to get off my economics high horse, I am only 1 class away from getting a BS in Econ (which would be my third, and there is no way I am going to do it.)

I think the point is deceptive descriptions.. not the actual sale price!! The misleading descriptions that give the plastic laymen the sense that they are buying something worth much more.. The labeling of standard champion plastic as CE is merely one example of deceptive marketing. Is that the same as fraud!!!!

I particularly enjoy the misuse of the term NEW vs. UNTHROWN.
IE, you do not have a NEW Zephyr/CE Firebird/Midnight Flyer, you have an UNTHROWN one.

Aren't all MBA's completely full of BS? After all not many of my classmates have a BA.
(I had said I was 1 class away from a degree in Econ, I am not majoring in it, I just have taken alot of Econ classes, in fact I hate Economics, sorry if there was confusion on this).

It depends on the views you carry about where the sport is going.Paying more than 50$ now for a strait T may seem high, but in reality, its fair.{ in unused condition} If you can spend enough time on Ebay you can follow trends, much like stocks, and its not hard to see that ALL CE is going to continue to climb in price.A disc like a CE T is going to keep climbing regardless of weither its advertised "rare" or not, and alot of it has to due with sites like this one.I cant count the number of nubees Ive seen throwing Superior plastic.I sell to beginners alot, and they buy 1st run FLs, or Pro Line Beasts, mainly because someone better uses them.I advise all new players to start with DX or the new Pro.Buy a CE T when you either need a new one or to put away for more turnover down the road.More durablity? Buy a regulaur Champion disc.
With that being said, Its my beleif that EVERY CE stamped disc will be worth up to twice what you pay for it at some point. If you buy a 1st run Valk for 100$, eventually it will move for 200$.If you pay attention to winning bidders on high end discs, LOTS are purchased by the same people.Sometimes within a week they will be relisted. At the 04' Worlds Flymart I saw at least 10 discs I sold going for double what I sold them for less than 2 weeks after they were bought. { I sold a boatload of discs to fund Worlds} Again, its worth what someone will pay, and with age and the influx of new players, there really isnt a ridiculaus price. When I started golfing 9x just hit the shelf.I thought about buying 20 Rocs then for backup stock. Now I kick myself because they are going for 5x the original price.
I particularly enjoy the misuse of the term NEW vs. UNTHROWN.

Not necessarily.
I have a used NEW (2005) Super Rocs and a stack of unthrown OLD (original SE) Super Rocs, so the the New Super Roc is old (used) and the Old are new (unused=unthrown). :D

heres another one... just its almost true. or will be in 2 years when everyone is paying 40 bucks for a BB grid stamped avair.. why o why did they discontunie them
i think pictures are real important on ebay, and when sellers don't word things right, don't even mess with those BIG DUMMYS.
