I got a skills-shot about 2 weeks ago and I've been putting like mad.

I've been trying different types of puts. When I release with a hyzer angle my putting % is much better, especially from 20-15 feet.

I know someone had a link up to Ken Climo's discussion of putting and he was a strong proponent of hyzer putting. Can't argue with his credibility.

I meant from 20-25 feet

Putting results from today

From:

15 Feet: 93/100

20 Feet (Not Hyzer) 58/100
(hyzer release) 70/100

25 Feet 35/100

Not very good, but I'm really jusdt starting to focus on putting. Also very cold here and lot's of clothing. The skills-shot is small, but it also catched some reallly bad puts

Just pay careful attention to the wind. A hyzer putt with a headwind is fine, but I dare you to try it with a right to left wind...your putter will do some crazy stuff and you will be ******!!

Thats the only way I putt. I have always been a hyzer putter. I don't feel comfortable with any other release. The only time I don't is when I have no room to work with on the right.

Me too, only hyser putts with overstable putters, but from 15 and in i'm pretty much straight at it.

If the hyzer put is where you confidence is thats where you should go. Look at the differnces between Ken, Barry and Ron. Three radically different styles and 3 world champions.

Has anyone seen a putt more strange than Ron's? Only one that comes close is a guy from the twin cities that putts with rocs...high and on anhyzer line.

I think for me the reason hyzer puts work well is because it minimized the possibility for error during the putting motion.

At least for me. When I try to straight put I have to actively do a bunch of things right (because it is not my putting motion).

A hyzer putt that is reasonably flat and hyzers slightly at the end is good. A hyzer putt that is all hyzer allow the wind to catch on the bottom, or push the disc down. I used a hard hyzer putt for a time last year. Worked fine at my very wooded home course. Whenever I played a open, windy course it was next to useless.

My buddy putts like Ron(line drive anhyzer release) without turning his entire body away from the target. When he gets on he makes everthing!!! :p

On the note of being a more strange putt, Glen Whitlock. He has this "horseshoe" style loft putt that he will throw from long range like ten feet in the air and just bang stuff from everywhere!!! If you have never seen it, it is a sight to behold.

I used to putt the same way with an 86 softie. My friends called it the "bobalob" because I would use almost no spin and it would wobble quite a bit. It also got me the nickname Nytrain, but that is a long story. I still use it on 40'+ with unlimited ceiling.

I'm far from an expert on putting but ... As long as the disc ends up in the basket ... putt any way you want to. Since you are practicing and learning, why not test your putter? Try it flat, hyser, anhyser ... float it in, hammer it in ... Whatever. Get to know your putting disc like the back of your hand, and you will be a master.
One thing I have added to my putting routine is moving the basket. I have some trees and a hill in my backyard. Moving the basket around (it is portable for a reason), gives me new obstacles, changes the angle of putts, and gives me some different wind conditions occasionally. It also keeps practice from getting boring!

Someone should set up some type of site where we could record/compare/keep track of putting practise

Yeah. Watching him on the 2003 USDGC, I was amazed how he pulled this wierd anhyzer putt off. He didn't miss much though. Don't you think he has long comeback putts if he misses?

He does have long comebacks, but he seems to can them most of the time.

www.kenclimo.com (http://www.kenclimo.com) has done wonders to my putt. and yes he loves the hyzer putt. as do I. The biggest help from KC was his tip to spread your back leg out to the side a bit to give you more stability on your feet. It made a huge difference for me. but if its gets windy......you better go for the straight-line putt. because the wind can really take a hyzer putt and put you far past and to the left of the basket. I mean really FAR

Mar 04 2005, 03:53 PM
Yeah! and in a strong Right to Left wind, sometimes really really rolling far too! Ive had them look like a windsurfer trying in a big hurry to get away from the hole

Hyzer putts work because you are going with the natural motion of the disc.. and it also seems that you want to release it that way naturally.. I don't really spin putt. I throw a push putt(brinster/schultz) type thing.. not much spin.. lots of height though.. with a slight bit of hyzer.

but when i have to spin put(outside my pushputt distance.. i definatley use the hyzer to my advantage.)

Another thing that is great about the hyzer putt is that you almost never have any comeback putts. I can confidently run every putt under 100' and I rarely ever have more than a 10 footer for a 2 putt. Thats harder to do with a straight putt.

I still putt hyzer in the wind too. I haven't had many problems with long comebacks in the wind? If I sense a strong right to left, I do take it straight on, even a little anhyzer. thats the only circumstance where I won't hyzer putt.

I sure was putting great yesterday. I consistantly was canning 40 footers like nothing. The hyzer putt is great! :)
