Is there a disc currently being marketed by any disc golf company that makes you go: "Why are they still producing those?"

For me it would be the Innova Wolf.

Feb 24 2005, 03:48 PM
One mans trash is another man's treasure, tho. Never forget that.

I know a guy who sky rolls a wolf out to 450-500 ft.

Feb 24 2005, 03:53 PM
The easy answer is Epic. Unless you need a disc that can be tommied forever with little to no control over where it is going to land.

Feb 24 2005, 04:00 PM
the only thing that comes to my mind would be the mini disc. why not just leave your disc where it is, no flipping, just throw, I find it easier to hit my plant foot behind my driver than my mini, although I see alot of players that could careless whether they are behind the mini or not

I have the agree with you Epic....., no comments...

Feb 24 2005, 04:10 PM
What if you miss your putt? Do you get another putter out to finish the hole?

You can already do this according to the rules. In fact, if I'm more than 40-50' out from the basket (and do not intend to use the exact disc I just threw), I almost always play my shot from the thrown disc, without using a mini marker).

Feb 24 2005, 04:23 PM
Me too.

I played the best round I've ever had in Victoria with a mini the entire time. I figure, I never do it in casual rounds, why take an extra 8" in tourney play. That 8" isn't going to make my putt go in.

Feb 24 2005, 04:24 PM
miss a putt? please explain ;)

actually I was typing about upshots not putting. Since you asked, I carry two putter that are 1.5 omega ss, same weight, color. So leave one on the ground and use the other, in the rare event I do miss a putt. (if I do it was an upshot not a putt hee hee hee )

Feb 24 2005, 04:29 PM
Yeah yeah I know... if it goes in it was a long putt... if you miss it was an upshot. :p :D

Feb 24 2005, 04:30 PM
I think krevo meant without his mini. And he did play a really good round with out flipping, and hit his mark every time.

Feb 24 2005, 04:52 PM
I never use a mini in casual play and rarely use one in a tourney. Yes, I have two putters.

Back on subject, I would have to agree with the Epic and also throw in the Optimizer (if that is still made).

Feb 24 2005, 05:02 PM
Quarter K, Hmmm?????

Does it even exist, or is it like snipe hunting, you always hear about it, but...

Feb 24 2005, 05:05 PM
Is Lightning still producing discs or have they stopped polluting the waters? If they are still in production I would say almost any disc they ever made. The rubber putter is a good catch disc though, if you have a dog. :D:D

My vote would also go to the ram, but im not sure that innova still prouduces this disc

CE rocs make me go hmmm...do I smell controversy? I say this because I have never seen any touring pro carry one and yet people rave about how sweet their flight is. I do buy them but would never think about throwing them. So why is it that the best in the world do not even throw them?

Feb 24 2005, 11:27 PM
I like my lightning discs, have a #2 driver and rubber putter.

It's an XD and a Dragon that both make me go hmmm?

Probably because they need to be able to replace any disc in their bag, at a moment's notice and at a reasonable price.

Be that as it may, I've seen plenty being thrown, including clear and red '01 CE Rocs. In fact, I've returned 3 yellow, 2 red, and 1 clear '01s that I've pulled from various bodies of water in the area (not to mention a yellow '01 with no marking of any kind on it that's now got my name on it :)), and I've lost count of the number of '02s-04s i've returned.

The Birdie, hmmmm

Birdie's are great discs. I used to throw one before I started throwing all Discraft. I don't understand why people don't like them.

Besides the usual garbage discs(Optimizer, Maximizer, Epic, New Wham O discs) I would have to say the Glide. I don't think it will ever be popular. I just don't think there's a need in the market for it.

Feb 25 2005, 01:08 AM
Hold on on the XD comment.

Not only is a really good thin small diameter putter, but a friend of mine pointed out how closely it resembles the old DX Classic Roc.

An XD to me is a rhyno without the *** thumbtrac.

Feb 25 2005, 01:11 AM
Additionally, alot of people throw the Rhyno cuz it's got the TT, plus is thin small diameter and feels real comfortable. The Rhyno to me is nothing but a thinner flatter Birdie. Which one came out first?

What cracks me up is that they run the birdie in the new proline stuff!

Orcs make me go hmmm.

Because I wonder when they are going to stop flying so far past the baskets. ;)

Feb 25 2005, 10:39 AM
Yes,Lightning is still producing discs and make some very good discs.I,in particular, need and throw the F-2 Flyer bacause no one else makes a disc that does the same thing, the same way.

Feb 25 2005, 12:52 PM
Sorry for hi-jacking.
I also know people who throw the #2 slices, my only complaint would be that they are not that fast. They do what they are meant to very good.

May 31 2005, 11:33 PM
The easy answer is Epic. Unless you need a disc that can be tommied forever with little to no control over where it is going to land.

hey hey, lay off the epic, it is a very, very, very specialized disc. I love to throw it, but it can only be helpful in certain situations. I've found that when I thumb the epic it will make it's initial flip in the air and then it will turn over when it's nearing the end of its flight.

as for hmmm discs... I'd have to say any 150 class midrange discs. I was given a 147 DX shark (it feels like the older stiffer DX plastic) but it just spends it's flight load waaaaaay to fast.

Then don't throw them on holes under 350'!!! :o

I'll second the hmmm... on the glide. I like most new discs and I was initially excted about this disc, but once I got one I was disappointed because the disc did not seem to do anything special. It is like a slow stingray, nothing new or interesting. Discraft already has a bunch of understable mids, why did they need this one?

Hmm, that must be a very steep uphill shot with a head wind on that 350ft hole for you to throw an Orc /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif.

Unless I have to crack 400ft, and there is no tailwind, I just throw Teebirds/Talons/XL's depending on how I want them to finish and skip.

I just try to throw the slowest disc I can for the distance/hole config, and try to get the maximum distance out of my discs. Kudos to those who throw a sharp edged disc on a short hole, I cannot do it, nor do I intend to try.

I saw no use for it myself, ended up giving my two ace race discs away. It is like a sharp nosed Breeze, which is another disc that I wonder about.....

Those discs with Ed's ashes. I paid a ton of money when they said it was a run of 500 discs. I figured it was an investment.

After I paid they made the run 5000 not 500.

I think the X-Putt'r is more popular than people think. It outsells the Rhyno, APX Swirl and Magnet at Marshall Street (look at where the Arrow is, too ;)):

I think the bigger hmmmm should be the fact that the discs contain human remains. I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but can you see parts (I know they're ashes) of the guy in the disc? Do they look like speckled Innova X-outs?

Also speaking of Lightning Discs:
I found a trashed #4 Driver in the middle of a Fairway. It looked like someone had just thrown it away. I stuck it in my bag thinking that one of my cheapskate friends would appreciate any disc they didn't pay for. The next day I was throwing a bunch of discs for practice and picked up the #4 Driver. I threw some of the best sky rollers with it that I've ever thrown. At least 375' up a gentle hill.

I don't know that Steve would be too keen on admiting that Lightning's #4 Driver, "Designed for power drives and heavy winds" is great for sky rollers.

There are two players who regularly birdie a few holes at my local with the Epic. Both throw tomahawks or hook thumbers with it.
One of the guys (big kid) can throw a high double corkscrew shot that comes out of the second flip into a looooong glide that finishes with a good roll for a total of 400 + feet.

Jun 16 2005, 09:06 PM
I have to admit that I go "Hmmm...." alot with my 167g Pro T-Bird L. If I cannot predict if it will hyzer, flatten or turn over and cut right, then it's awfully hard to know when to pull it out of the bag.

It may have to join my Champion Viking behind the seats in my truck as a disc that I just can't throw.... this champ viking is not typical, as I have never thrown a disc that is this overstable....twelve feet out my hand it cuts hard left and dives. No-one can flatten it out.

justingill
Jun 17 2005, 12:23 AM
try a monster, flick or spirit and report back. you'll change your view of the viking.

Did any one mention floating discs yet? Yeah, cool, they float but they fly like turds. Most do. I can't think of one that flies well.

I can thow those. I can throw other people's vikings. But this disc is retarded and is overstable to the point of being ridiculus. It should have been and X-out, imho.
