Yes, its true. You now have the opportunity to live out all your disc golf dreams you can own your own incredible disc golf facility.

The Circle R2 Ranch, site of recent PDGA World Doubles Championships and the Texas Team Championships, has gone on the market.

It was a very difficult decision one I thought I would never make but ultimately it is the right thing to do.

I love disc golf rumors, but there neednt be any in this case. You can hear the simple truth from me. The fact is that its taken tremendous support from friends and family to keep me in business the last 20 years. In particular, one group of friends has extended a great deal of financial assistance. Selling the ranch gives me the chance to live up to my obligations.

In the event that the property sells before Am World Doubles, which is possible but not likely, well move it to Wimberley. And well try to have one last big fun event before these three wonderful courses disappear forever. Unless, of course, a group of disc golfers keeps it going

John, I'm only thankful that I've had the chance to play these unparalleled courses. If you have played San Saba, then you know that you are a member of a very special club, and you know that there is nothing quite like San Saba.

Knowing that you need to sell the property, I wish you a speedy sale and closing. But from a truly selfish standpoint, I hope that isnt until after AM World Doubles.

This year will be my second, and apparently final, visit to the ranch. I have a feeling that this will be a very special year indeed.

Thanks for having us out there John, even if our time was limited. Years from now, as we old geezers talk about the good old days of disc golf, the legend of San Saba will only grow as we try to describe it to those who never knew

Oh, and is there a listing for the property that is available for any potentially interested parties?

WOW!!! What a hit to one of my favorite DG courses of all time. San Saba is such a beautiful place to be, not only to play DG but to just be there in the middle of nowhere with all that eye candy to get lost in. Sad to know I may not ever be able to launch out there again.

For whatever reasons you have to sell the ranch, I hope you are able to do it quickly and get things squared away for yourself.

With the sale of the ranch where will you be? Are you going to be back out at Circle R? If so it'll be good to go and see the Godfather of course design more often. :)

May the schwartz be with you John!!!

In TN, one area has a few loging roads, but I have not walked the area yet, 24 Acres.

Another area is about the same size on the side of a very large hill, problem with parking, because the only road cuts in the side of the hill for no access.

the 3rd area would be across from my parents home, it already has a small parking area, with several log roads and some open fields that would make some great fairways. I have walked some of this, and already have some holes that I like, it is just a matter of really looking at it. My parents have already told me that I will get the house if I want it, But I am only 20 years younger than them, so i will be too old to do it when they pass on. (my grandparents who use to own the land just passed away last year at 94 and 91 years old)

But they have said I could build it if I wanted too.

Problem is, rational people don't move -from- San Diego -to- Texas.

:-)

hmmm.... I do have at least a couple hundred in equity in my san diego house. How many acres of flat stone and field stone do you have like those in the photos?

How many people can I get out there to play the course(s) everyday? (we discussed this question on the phone a couple years ago IIRC).

Just got back from an extended weekend at San Saba. Played all 3 courses for 3 days straight (generally at 8am, Noon, and 4pm each day).

That brings my total rounds at San Saba to 29. I'd claim that as a record, except that my brother has 30, so I'll give him the crown. Not bad for a couple guys that live 700 and 1200 miles away.

We had mid-70s and lighter-than-normal winds each day, with only a brief shower one afternoon. We also contributed heavily to the economy of a certain company in Shiner, TX.

What can you say except it's sad to know that these courses, and this place as a hangout, will likely be going away.

John made the ranch into a dreamworld. If you still have a chance to get out there, by all means do it.

Many thanks to John for a few years of golfing and fun that will be difficult to match.

Well, I got home from work Saturday night about 1am and packed up stuff for the trip today. Wound up climbing in bed about 2am.

Got up at 6am and was on the road with Raven (my 4 year old kid) by 7am. 230 miles and 3 1/2 hours later I was pulling up to the lodge at San Saba.

John gave me scorecards and a map of all 3 courses and told me some hints on finding the holes. He drove me down the hill so I could play the River course first.

I managed to throw a brand new Orc off to the left on hole one of the River course. Never found it after 15 min of looking.

On the Island hole #5, I hooked up with Chris and Greg Brooks from Big Springs Texas. They showed me the rest of the course. By the middle of the round, Raven was throwing some of the holes too. (in fact he played the hole down the hill, every shot)

We all ate lunch after the round. Raven and I then played Strawbail field course. Raven threw a few shots,. but mostly I just played the course and pushed him around in the jogger.

After that round, we drove back up the hill to use the potty. John and Raven had a interesting conversation that I have no idea what he was saying (I don't think John knew either) So when john and I were talking, Raven kept saying "lets go, Lets go" So I asked him if he wanted to play another round and his answer was "Yea"

On to the Meadow course. They were unable to mow a few of the holes, but I played them anyways. After two rounds, I was pretty beat, but I did managed two birds, including hole 18 (par 4)

In all, I am sooooo glad I made the trip today. I wish I could play the courses again sometime, but at least I got to pay them once.

Thanks again John for opening up the course for us to play before you close on the property. When we got home, I asked Raven it he wanted to play Disc Golf with me again, his answer "yea" (BTW, he was asleep in the car before we even got to the fork in the road, he slept almost the whole way home)

I asked Houck about this before and it's just another Colorado river, not THE Colorado River.

Oh great. Is there another Hudson River in Tejax too, and another Mississippi. How about a Amazon?

How about a Tejax River in NY?

I hear Houston is on the Rio Grande, it's just a different Rio Grande (and a different Houston)

Morgan,
Just to keep you from getting confused, Paris (http://www.cityofparistx.com/) is also a city in Texas and doesn't have an Eiffel Tower.

There is also a city named Springfield in 23 states. Don't get lost. :p

Vermont is small enough to be its own country.

Oh yeah, it was, and long before Tejax was.

No chit but it was only its own country because it didn't have the same ideas and beliefs as the other colonies. :o

No actually, Vermont was originally the vacant land between the colonies of NY and NH, not claimed by anybody, and it was being settled by pioneers without any government, just like squatters. They went in, cut trees, killed Indians, built houses, got killed by Indians, planted crops. Then around 1765 the governors of the colonies of NY and NH (not states yet) both claimed it as theirs, and started selling off land to new people. Imagine how pisssed the Vermonters were that their land was being sold out from under them, so they started to revolt. They declared war against NY and NH.

Then king of England stepped in around 1775 to settle the dispute, and said the NY and NH deeds were good, so the Vermonters declared war against England and they declared themselves independent from England BEFORE the 13 colonies did. They wrote up a declaration of independence BEFORE the one we have, and the one we have even borrows lots of wording from the Vermont one. They had a constitution before the US constitution too. And the first blood in Vermont's rebellion was BEFORE Bunker Hill so it came before the other 13 colonies started fighting.

Not only that, but the first US victory in the Revolutionary War was when the Vermonters captured Fort Ticonderoga, but they didn't capture it for the USA, they captured it for Vermont!! Then Benedict Arnold (who worked for the USA) said to Ethan Allen (who was on Vermont's payroll) said "Thanks Ethan, nice job." And Ethan said "What the fug you talking about, I don't work for you. Vermont is independent and Ticonderoga is ours."

So Benedict Arnold got Ethan Allen drunk and convinced him to hand over Fort Ticonderoga and work for the 13 colonies by telling him that Vermont is on the same side against England and so the USA side and Vermont side fought together but that didn't last long because Vermont declared war against the USA again once when Ethan Allen was drunk again, so the USA team threw Ethan Allen in jail and took his troops and he stayed in jail for the whole war. Vermont was never part of the USA actually, it was a nation for the whole war and didn't even become a state until later on, and the original 13 states after the war didn't even want Vermont to join because they thought they were a bunch of hippies.

And now, 200 years later, Vermont is still full of hippies and still wants to cecede from the USA. Always did.

Yep, true story. Sounds just like Tejax.

The thing is that they no longer have the right to split from the union like Tx does. TX can also split into 5 different states. :D

They can cecede if they want to and often start a movement and put it up for a public vote of Vermonters, but they always vote it down. The last time was when I lived in Vermont in the late 80's

Why?

the_kid
Oct 25 2005, 10:50 PM
Something about it being annexed and it was an agreement at that time. I don't know why we can split into different states though.

morgan

You mean split while still being a US state?

It has something to do with the agreement when Texas became part of the USA.

Texas is also the ONLY state that can fly it's flag at the same level as the USA flag. All other states are suppose to fly there's lower or below the USA flag.

That's why TX is the "BEST" state. :o:o

The Vermont National Guard is a seperate militia from the US Army National Guard. They still call themselves the Green Mountain Boys like they did 230 years ago, and they fly the same identical flag they had back then! http://flagspot.net/flags/us-gmb.html

So Vermont is the only state with its own military.
