There is a new course setup in San Angelo Texas. Right now it is a pole course, but will soon have baskets installed. Several of the local players are going to donating baskets for the course. It is a 9 hole course at Brentwood park. We will probably add new tee boxes to throw from to make the course more holes, but that is for the furture. This course is really going to help disc golf in SA, as the only other course is out by the lake were it gets little to no traffic by it. So very few people get to see what disc golf is. This course is going to help disc golf to grow in the San Angelo, and west Texas area.
If your in the area come check it out. I have some hand drawn maps at my shop, Cortese Flag & Silkcreen ask for Jason. Hopefully there will be some real maps made soon.

I heard that SA is doing a tournament the same weekend as Big Spring. Is this the real news? If so, what is the reason for the conflict?

Yes the club is putting on a tourney the same weekend as big springs unfortunately. They originally had it scheduled for an earlier date(in Feb. I think), but then moved it cause it was conflicting with some other tourney. So they moved it to April 23, 24, because it was an open weekend, we thought. The Big Springs tourney dates were posted(on there web-site and on lsdga.com) as being the 2nd and 3rd of April so they thought that weekend was open. They just found out this week that they had posted the wrong dates for their tourney in Big Springs. It's still posted wrong on the lsdga web site. Carl Wamsley is trying to work something out, but since the date has already been moved once they are not wanting to move it again.
Sucks to cause there was about 10 guys from here that I know of that were going to go to the Big Springs tourney, and now we won't be able to.
Hopefullly something will change and one or the other will move their tourney, since we are so close together. It's going to hurt the turnout for both events.

There are several of us from Abilene that wanted to make both tourneys, but we were already commited to doing the 'Crush'. The original 'Crush' dates in February conflicted with the Tx 10 tourney in Waco...I think that is the reason for the change. And Big Spring had publisized their dates for the first week in April way back last summer.
I wish we could make both :(...but, most Abilene disc golfers commited to the 'Crush' already....we will probably play San Angelo that weekend regardless.
Hope something can be worked out

sorry been snowboarding for a week and have not been around a computer.
Esalazar, the local club had some money to buy the posts. Now as for the baskets the club will be paying for about half of them(depending on how much they can bring in from the Crush on the Concho), and myself and about 3 of my buddies(who are starting up Team Warlocks disc golf{all of us have been playing for about a year now}) are buying the rest of the baskets for down there.
The course is layed out in a park that has a creek running through it, and has lots of streets around it. The holes are not all that long, but they are tuff because of all the OB, and trees. The length of the holes range from the shortest beging a little over 200', and the longest being 396'. There are some wide open holes, and some that are tucked away in some trees, and some that are right on the edge of the creek, and some that are right on the edge of the street. So the main deal with this course is to stay in bounds. It's a fun little course that can be played in about 45 minutes if you are playing with a small group(2-3).
I have a map that the city did in auto cad at home I will get it at lunch and try to post it on here.
Jroc, glad you guys are coming for the tourney...I am with you, sure wish something could change with that big springs tourney. I have only played there once, but it was a fun couple of courses.

Here is that map of the new course. The only thing wrong with it is hole 1 not exactly right. The starting place is right, but the hole is actually more towards where the tee box for 2 is. This was done by the city, that's why there is no tress on it.

no kidding about the ob . Is this tourney sanctioned? do you have a flyer with all the details? and how far is this from Austin?? :D

Feb 28 2005, 03:28 PM
I told you...there is a lot of OB. A decent day can turn ugly in just a couple of throws. No the tourney is not pdga sactioned. Depending on where you are in Austin, it takes me about 3 hours to get to 6th.
This is not the course that the tourney is going to be at. That course is an 18 hole course at the lake, with baskets. Actually it will be a 21 hole course during the tourney.
If you decide to come I am sure we can squeeze in a round at this course though.... :D

Well this would be right up your allie then. SA has just hit 100,000 people so we are not that populated. Disc golf has been here for a few years, but in the last year it has really caught on. There are more and more new players all the time, and with the new course in town where it will be seen by a lot more people the sport should only continue to grow.

excellent , how many club members do you guys have??
warlocks00
Mar 02 2005, 03:59 PM
I'm not real sure about that...I'll ask and get back to you. From what I understand the club kind of fell apart for a little while, but things are getting back organized now.(I have only been playing for a year now, and I've only been a member for a month or so) I know when we put the post in on the new course there was only 1 actual member there to help, and the rest was me, and my 3 playing partners. :(
hopefully there will be more there to help when we put the baskets in..that by the way just came in so hopefully by the time of the crush there will be baskets on this new course.

FINALLY WE GOT ALL THE BASKETS INSTALLED
San Angelo's second course is now complete with baskets. It's only a 9 hole course, but it is a challenge. Nothing to long, but lots of OB. It's at Brentwood park, on the north side of the freeway off of Howard street. If your coming through town go check it out....A round can be played in as little time as 45 minutes(depending on the size of the group).
