they are $11 at www.sunkingdiscs.com (http://www.sunkingdiscs.com) for pre-order, I got a few along with some DX Orcs that are $5.99

Feb 17 2005, 03:20 PM
Just ordered a champ gator, and two dx orcs. I cannot wait untill they get here.

Feb 18 2005, 02:20 PM
I have a DX Gator in that soft grippy DX plastic. Wierd that they used a different DX plastic only for this disc.

Anyways, that disc is sweet for approaches and drives. It is like a smaller diameter, slightly more overstable Roc.

I'm sure the champ will be sweet, can't wait to throw one!

Feb 18 2005, 02:27 PM
i know this is one a LOT of people have been waiting for. i'll definately have to get a few just for the stamp :D

Any reviews yet? How does it compare to the champ roc or shark?? I may have to drop the Zwasp and go back to all Innova. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Don't take the z-wasp out of your bag, even if you put the champion Gator in your bag. They will both have a place.

I picked some up this morning with my CE ROCS.

Plastic is grippy champion, at least on the 12 I got. Feels good in the hands.

Threw it a few times in the field and it flies like a new out of the box DX Gator. Steady and stable. I'm hoping these will be around alot longer then the Proline Gremlin. For those of you that like the way a CE Spider fits your hand this is gonna be a must have.

I don't want to compare it to the ROC, Shark or Wasp yet. I'm guessing after some serious practice with it I'll make a comparison but I really like the way it feels and flies.

Threw the Ch Gators at lunch along with the Special Blends and last years GloRoc. I'm a flyweight arm Rick and to me the low speed fade on the Champ Gator is somewhat greater than the DX and for the shots I use a Gator on that's a really good thing. For approach hyzers that absolutely, positively have to stop right now these are a jewel - left sidehill, right sidehill, uphill and down hill I never had one roll off. They just strike, flex and flop over. Two keepers in a week counting the Special Blend. Not too shabby. :D

Feb 26 2005, 06:11 PM
I'm waiting for more reviews.

Like, are they same stability as DX, or more?
Travel about the same D? more? less?

Feb 26 2005, 07:22 PM
stable as a table, with a good flare at the end. love it

need to try in the wind next

Feb 26 2005, 10:06 PM
The Champ gators are like an overstable Classic Roc. The mold is very similar cept for the Gator has a bigger bead.

I love CR's and XD's which are pretty similar, and this Champ Gator is gonna be sweet.

Feb 27 2005, 12:13 AM
Wow what a cool disc, flys and feels just like my CE Spiders only way more stable. Super stable. I am definitly going to want one of these in my bag.

Feb 27 2005, 12:28 AM
ring stamp sucks though :(

Feb 27 2005, 12:35 AM
The rainbow colored ring stamps own you!

However, I'm a fan of the Whippet X which is also ring stamped. Always have someone on my card ask me what I'm throwing.

yeah the gator and whip fly about the same too

Feb 27 2005, 11:47 AM
I can easily see the similarities between my Champ Whippet and the Champ Gator. I used it yesterday on a really tight forehand hole. This thing is the most overstable midrange disc I have ever seen. It replaced my classic roc in my bag. I cannot say it would comparable to a Wasp, Roc, or a Shark because the Gator is WAY more overstable, and those other three have alot more distance and glide to them.

BTW I have the most FLAMBOYANT Gator ever. Hot Pink with the Rainbow stamp! It takes a real man to throw this.

Feb 27 2005, 12:13 PM
This thing is an overstable pig! We were setting up an ace race course for next weekand and took turns throwing the gator every other hole. Got an ace with the gator!! It was short but still an ace! Very predictable and has a good feel. Feels like a spider in the hand but yes it is very much like a CE whippit. Sticks on the green like a yard jart. When it was your turn to throw it you were quickly dubbed "gator bait".

Very good description of the landing - "Sticks to the green like a yard dart." My home course has tons of elevation which means poorly placed shots can take some extreme rolls. But the Champ Gator seems to just hit, flex and fall over no matter what the slope is. I love it. :D

Feb 27 2005, 01:20 PM
The gator isn't nearly as overstable as a Whippet X is, but it does dig when it's told to. I put alot of snap on one and got a nice clean flat flight until it turned it's blinker on about 250 down the fairway.

Mar 08 2005, 02:31 PM
Was this disc only ran in Hot Pink with the Rainbow stamp?

That is the disc I recieved, and it was the one on Innova's website. I love the disc, but also like to make fun of it. I call it my "Flamin' Gator"

I got that one, but I also got blue and yellow. I've seen a white on too.

Mar 08 2005, 03:25 PM
okayokay, now i have to throw one...i love the champ whippet (i carry two just in case) and i can't believe that the gator can even be in the same ballpark as far as stability goes. i'm going to buy one right now...

BTW you can't knock the ring stamp...it's beautiful in it's simplicity

Mar 08 2005, 03:29 PM
I was wondering about the "feel" of the gator. Is the mold more like a cobra (shallow, no bead), a roc (medium, bead), or a spider (deep, bead)?

I feel the same way. I have thrown DX Gators and they aren't even close to Champ Whippets.....but you never know with champion plastic...I think I might pick one up too...

Mar 08 2005, 03:50 PM
Rocco, It feels alot like a Spider as far as rim depth goes.
Regarding stability I got 2 of them and the one is pretty close to a brand nex DX gator. But the other one reminds me more of a brand new Speed Demom. Yikes!

Mar 08 2005, 03:58 PM
gotta love that innova plastic...you just never really know.

You must be talking about the 6X Gator.

Mar 09 2005, 08:56 PM
Yes, I suspect Spurrier will win some titles for South Carolina now, assuming he can the talent to compete with Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida in the brutal SEC East.

Mar 09 2005, 09:07 PM
If Spurrier is able to recruit talent equal to half his ego, it's a done deal.

<bump>

I got a champ Gator a week ago, and threw it a few times since then. I can see why there is a comparison to the Whippit, because this sucker is pretty darn overstable. It's not very fast, which could be a good thing. This is very much a niche disc. If you need a 200-240 foot shot that goes needs to end up fairly hard left, this is your disc. Very slow, but powerful left turn. I think it might be a good mid-range for forehand shots, easier to control than say a CFR Viper.

I've been throwing mine for a few weeks now, and it is the dopest midrange out there if you have a big arm...I've been throwing mine in all wind situations and it cruises right where I want it...Good for forehands too
