How do they fly compared to the Z crush?

cbdiscpimp
Feb 17 2005, 10:29 AM
That would prolly be hard to say since pretty much every color of Z Crush flys differently. Its the only disc that Discraft makes that has a consistency issue. I mean same color same flight but **** the colors make alot of diff.

Junnila throws alot of Z Preds so if he says this crush is SICK OVERSTABLE then it prolly flys pretty close to that i would Imagine. Im going to get some of these when im out in AZ and ill come back and give a review once i get home. I might even give one while Im out there because i hope to get my laptop by then :D

Feb 17 2005, 12:54 PM
If these are as overstable as the first run green Z crush, I have to pick one or two up...are the D versions as color dependant?

cbdiscpimp
Feb 17 2005, 01:09 PM
I dont throw alot of D plastic for the simple face that they dont make the discs i like in D plastic but they arent as color dependant as Z. I hope Discraft starts to run ALOT of their molds in D plastic because i would love to have a bag full of discs that i like that i can throw when its raining. Id love to see a D Pred and a D Flick. I felt some prototype D discs the other day and it looks like they have uprgraded their D plastic. The ones i felt were lot stiffer and seemed more durable then the D plastic they are producing right now. If this is the New D plastic I think i will have to put a few D Wasps in the bag :D

So if it was a Innova release it would be compared to _________? Ive only thrown Orange Crushes, and it was awile ago, but I think Beast like?

These compare to a max weight flick...not as fast or stable but definitely comparable. I threw an orange one like I throw my predator/tsunami and it hyzered out pretty quick. The other one I threw was yellow and wasn't quite as overstable (both max weight). A couple of trees and/or some pavement will quickly change the flight. Thank you Keith for another sick disc.

Hey Brad is the plastic a new blend or is it still the old soft plastic they are using in the D Wasps right now??? I think im going to pick a few of these up out in Scottsdale.

Feb 17 2005, 03:43 PM
I'm not sure if it is a new blend or not, I haven't seen that plasitc yet. They are a little stiffer than my d buzzz', but that could be due to the driver/mid range difference. Get Crush-d!

Are you kidding me? Comparing a Beast to a Crush is like comparing a Valkyrie to a Firebird. The beasts I've thrown were pretty understable. Every Crush I've thrown, except for one, has been pretty overstable.

I saw a guy throw one this weekend at an Ice Bowl I was at. He said it was a straight flyer (stable). He was throwing an orange, max weight.

I guess that depends on the Beast then doesnt it? The only Crush I threw was like a Pro Line Beast. Read the above posts about inconsistencys in the plastic color.

Feb 17 2005, 09:53 PM
true, I've thrown Crushs that were very very overstable and ones that flipped for me (I can only throw 350 or so), I also have thrown Beasts (especially original Pro Lines) which were quite flippy and then have thrown others which are quite a bit more overstable...

This is not a Discraft knock BUT D has zero chin. One tree and your hosed. I hope they can make it more durable because all the previous D is worthless after a few rounds. I wish they had never stopped making the Tournament line. That was the best plastic.

Feb 17 2005, 11:12 PM
Tournament line... what's that?

brookep
Feb 17 2005, 11:20 PM
It was the entry level line. When did you start playing?

it's pre x, d, elite, z. They stopped making it about 2 years ago.

I've been playing for going on 5 years, and remember hearing of tournament line, but never seen any

Hold thy tongue heathen!!!!!! The first run D Wasps are the greatest after they've been seasoned just a bit. Just don't hit trees at full force. The plastic also seems to come back to form quite well.

Tafe I have one of those from worlds. It's domey and I liked it for awhile but after a few rounds at the new Rolling Hills course its worthless.

Now compare that to a rancho thats been in my bag for 4 years. It's well seasoned but still flies straight.

Plus saying the D is good because one out of all the molds holds up ok doesn't mean it's good plastic.

Oh, sorry. Then here...
Pro D Challenger
D Buzzz
Photon UV Wildcat
Photon Glo Talon
All D plastic and all great. I rolled through Hudson Mills with a Wasp intact the entire way. The DX Roc looked like a piece of fake vomit when the Mills was done with it. I guess the difference is I hit my lines with the Wasp. :D I also had a UV Wildcat that sliced off part of tree root, lost a big chip and still flew great. Plastic-wise the two company's D(X) lines are virtually identical.

I guess I just don't hit stuff anymore! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I've had a couple of Z Crushes that were sickly overstable. One was a light green tourney stamped last winter, and then I had a blue one that was newer. Both were comparable to a new Z Flick stability-wise, but even more resistant to high speed turn. Great headwind discs. I like flippier Z Crushes, as my blue first run is my #1 wide open D disc. I think that the Crush is the Innova equivalent of a Starfire, as it is a bit slower and all around straighter than an Orc. Sounds like the relationship between Z and D Crushes is similar to the relationship between champion/Dx Beasts, with the D(x) being noticibly more overstable on average.

Well they don't make photon anymore and the challenger is a putter . UV is not the standard D. Like I said I like Discraft but some work needs to be done to make the D more durable.

And If you don't hit anything anymore MOVE EM UP!! :D

I live 5 min from the Mills actually going there this morning

Since D and DX are virtually identical, there's only one way to go to make it more durable. That's towards the plastic of the new Cam Todd's. You can't make drivers like that because someone's going to die!
D isn't supposed to be very durable. Neither is DX. They both provide grip and the posssibility of breaking the disc in. Olefin plastic does not mix very well with anything else, which makes it hard to "tweak" or change. I used to throw old Discraft plastic and it was worse. I recently had a pretzeled D Buzzz return to original shape while sitting in a bin! Elite, Tournament and Competition never did that!

BTW, UV was flimsier than standard D, and "Challenger is a putter", what? We're talking about durability. I drive with my Pro D in and around trees all the time.

Oh, and I'll move up when I'm ready. :p

There must be some way to tweak D(x), because Gateway S is far more durable than either.

Feb 19 2005, 06:24 PM
i have only thrown a white stiff first run crush, and for me , it flipped over a decent amount.

how understable were the first run white crushes compared to the others??

The whites I think were the very first "first runs". My friend got handed one at a discraft sponsered tourney a short time before they were released. He traded it to me because I really liked my blue one, and he didn't throw it. It was the same weight as my blue (173g), but it was much more understable. I have thrown purple as well, and it was closer to my blue than the white. My blue one is the most overstable of the first runs I've thrown, but it is still flippier than any of the subsequent runs I've tossed.

Dave will do anything to any plastic at any time! :D
I'm not saying it's not possible (CT Challengers), just not practical for all runs of D(x) plastic. I'd wager that if every "tweak" of plastic had to be approved for flexibility reasons, quite a bit of Gateway's discs would be illegal. I've seen Demons that I could stand on without flexing the dome!

...and more expensive. Companies like Gateway and Millennium have a slightly different philosophy than Innova and Discraft in that they use higher end plastics and charge a bit more. Innova and Discraft keep their DX and D lines as inexpensive as possible to sell more at a lower price. Adding cost to the lower end discs would defeat the purpose of having lower end discs, from a business perspective. Plus if they did the same thing as Gateway to their lowest end platics then we'd have fewer plastic types to choose from.
