I throw about 75% of my drives sidearm. For whatever reason, the disc is taking a slice out of my skin on my index finger where the disc is leaving my hand. Any advice on fixing this? Tape? What kind? New grip? For whatever reason, it will not caulus up and becomes too sore to throw.

i get the same thing but blood blisters. i have no idea what to do. so i throw RHBH.
I used to have the same problem when i was throwing the majority of my shots sidearm. I used like athletic tape and it worked as long as i remembered to use it. Since then ive completely switched to backhand and only throwing sidearm for short "get out of trouble" shots. It would be a good idea to learn a backhand and be able to thow both pretty well and to not depend on either style of throw.
If I am not mistaken, taped fingers are a nono in the rule book

Folks,
I drive predominately forehand and have dealt with the blister/callus problem. What works for me is to tape my finger at the spot where the friction occurs. Paper tape works great. Of the paper tapes I have tried the 3m brand works best.
If I don't tape my finger then I develop a callus which eventually grows large and tears off leaving a bloody gash, which eventually heals up and starts the process all over again. Dr. Rick Voakes taught me to tape my finger which prevents abrasion and callusing and permanently fixes the problem.
The thing about paper tape is that it feels natural and does not affect the release of the disc. Other types of tape will break in and feel natural after awhile. Paper tape feels natural immediately.
Player who drive backhand cannot appreciate the trouble we forehanders deal with. The biggest trouble is keeping a good grip. In winter it is especially challenging. There are tricks for that as well.

I throw nothing but sidearm and never had a blister on my fingers. I guess i hold the disc more on the palm of my hand instead of on the side of the finger (where the fore finger connects to the rest of the hand palm side). Plus having fat hands that cushions the disc helps alot.

Are they? I didn't think they were. I like athletic tape over blisters myself. I like to get it a little dirty before I start throwing with it on first.
I didn't think they were either, not sure though, but I see people using it in videos and at tournaments...
As far as tape being a rules no-no:
I'm too lazy to check the rules myself, but I believe the theory is this:
Stuff you add to your body to improve your throw/score = no-no
Stuff you add to your body to prevent injury = OK

I say stop throwing a sidearm while you still have an elbow to use, it will come back to haunt you!! e.i.---> Scott Stokely its ashame ....and Ive thrown one for about 2yrs. and will not anymore because I can start to feel the effects!!! Learn to throw left handed! :D Just my 2 cents

From someone who isn't too lazy ;)
802.04 ARTIFICIAL DEVICES
A. During a round, a player shall not use any artificial device that may assist in making a throw, except those devices that reduce or control abrasion to the skin (such as gloves, tape, bandages, gauze, etc.) and medical items (such as knee and ankle braces, etc.). Items used to prevent slipping on the teeing surface are also allowed. A player is specifically prohibited from using any artificial device that changes the position of the disc in the player's hand or artificially lengthens any of the player's throwing levers (fingers, wrist, arm, shoulder, etc.). The use of devices which assist in determining distances , such as range finders, are prohibited.

I think that harsh "lazy" remake was directed at me. I thought this was a friendly board.

Change your grip. Figure out where the friction occurs and adjust your hand/disc position so the disc can leave cleanly.

No, it was aimed at the guy who called himself lazy, and, coincidentally the guy I replied to. I thought that was how these new-fangled message board things worked... :p

wow. Sounds like me back in 91 with an ultimate disc. Your just not holding it right...or what kind of disc are you throwing???? Champion plastic seems to release the cleanest. I used to always have this problem with ultimate discs. Just keep throwing them and let the callous build. It will come. or use some super glue on the fingers. the old bass players trick
I'm not sure how you grip, but I know I used to have the same problem. I was showed a new grip... I used to have the edge on the third knuckle, then was showed the fourth. This generates far more power too. Well if that is the knuckle its on to begin with I don't have any other advice sorry.

You have 3rd and fourth knuckles? What kind of monster hands you got???
