I was just comparing pictures of myself driving forehand from last year's Hawaii States and this year's. For what it's worth, here's what I noticed:

Last year:

The overall impression I get from this picture is that I'm very scrunched up, almost like I'm trying to keep my body out of the throw. It's clear this picture is taken an instant before release, but aside from my hand, none of the pieces are in place. My plant foot is perpendicular to the hole, my hips are about 45 degrees from square, and my shoulders have come slightly past that. Judging by the way my right calf is flexed, I'm pushing off, just starting my weight transfer. In a nutshell, my timing is way off. My guess is that after release, my body stayed about where it is, with my arm finishing a bit forward. That would have forced me to throw across my body. It was a year ago, but I remember this throw being a high turnover that grounded out after a little more than 300 feet. I was throwing a white 172 Crush off about a 15' elevated teepad.

This year:

The photo is taken an instant after release, not before, but it's obvious that things are much better here. My plant foot is pointed almost straight down the fairway, my hips are square, and my shoulders have pulled all the way through. The thing is, I began that throw by turning my back on the hole - more of a windup than I used last year. I'm pretty sure the key is that I got almost to this position with my hand (and disc) still behind me, so that after the weight transfer, my hand whipped around, generating plenty of snap. This throw was with a 175 Champion Beast. It went about 350-375 before fading right, off a teepad with no elevation change.

The only bad thing I notice from this year's shot is that my Jimi shorts have faded. And they don't fit as well, but you can't see that in the picture.

You look exactly the same in both. If you took the old picture an instant later you would have a copy of the lower picture....right down to your outfit.

your throw does look much better this year. The single most important thing i've found when throwin sidearms for distance is getting the arm fully extended.

What does get the arm fully extended mean?

Notice in both pics, you are leaning "back" at release instead of forward or perpendicular. This causes your disc to nose up at release resulting in too much air, loss of distance, accuracy and a loss of balance.
Try leaning into your drive and extending your arm on your follow thru...and retire the shorts! Try a matching ensemble. :D:D

Bixby might be able to help you out with the wardrobe.

Maybe Bixby did pick out the wardrobe./msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Bixby seems like the type of guy to wear the same thing in every tournament with his buddy H. Merkin.

Heh, man, that article made me feel so uncomfortble.

that means having your arm straight, with little or no bend at the elbow joint.

Isn't your arm suppose to be tucked in by your hip though? Is it supposed to be tucked in at release and fully extended for the follow through?

personally, the farther i need to throw the sidearm the more extension i'll use. don't know if it's "right" but it sure as heck works for me :D

I'm really worried here that you are wearing the same clothes. The real question is have they been washed since then? If not I'm glad this is on the other side of the world from me :D
